In this weekend of European action France really cranked it up a notch, a 5-5 draw between Lyon and
Marseille showed not only great attacking talent, but also defensive organisation.
In England, Hull City get an important win over Stoke City with a late winner by Vennegoor of
Hesselink, this win eases the pressure on Phil Brown, who was leading the sack race recently.

I understand that FIFA have other priorities, you know, the small matter of the World Cup in
June next year. Surely though, they have a dedicated team that watch as many as matches of clubs
from around the globe. Looking at the current list of nominees however, leads me to question
whether FIFA has actually watched domestic football since 2006.

Until the 32nd started, things looked dull for Palmeiras. There was enormous pressure and the
fear that the team had just lost the Brasileiro. But after the last mid-week round of Brasileirao,
things changed again. Palmeiras won and all direct rivals, but one, lost precious points. With
that, the hopes of Palmeiras fans have been renewed.

Rangers vs Unirea Urziceni
The two bottom feeders of group G are set to face off on Tuesday although I think it is unlikely
either of them will go through to the next round. So, in essence, it is a fight for the Europa Cup
spot.
Rangers have been in absolutely horrendous form of late and need a win to boost their
confidence.

Joint top scorer with 15 goals in the Campeonato Brasileiro (national league, which has 8 rounds
remaining), 16 goals in the Campeonato Mineiro (local State championship), 4 goals in the Copa do
Brasil (Brazilian cup) not a bad tally for Atlético Mineiro's Diego Tardelli. Add to this his
recent call up to Brazil and it's not much of a surprise that the player is being linked with a
possible move to Manchester City (though who isn't these days?

It's because of the mess that Argentina is in that more attention is not being paid to Uruguay.
Talk to people who follow the team or live down there and you hear tales of malaise and depression.
Beyond having low expectations for the national team, people are losing interest. Only 30,000
people showed up for the Round 16 win over Colombia: twenty thousand less than came to see the
Brazil match in Round 14, forty thousand less than capacity.

and the continued brilliance of FC Barcelona, Sevilla carries on with their consistent good form.Â
On the surface, there is nothing too sexy that immediately grabs headlines, but arguably, LuĂs

Perth were up 2-0 for most of the game. Some very poor sighted refing allowed the GC Allstars back
into the game. Is Miron allowed to hung the 4th official?
We like NRL Boss Gallop's take on coaches speaking out - it is OK so long as they don't say the
refs were corrupt. Under that fair rule only one team would have been fined so far and it wouldn't
have been Brisbane fined.

For those who study tactics, it was interesting to see how Brazil morphed it's team in the FIFA
Confederations Cup into a system that best utilized their players. As Jonathan Wilson reports,
where they describe themselves in a midfield diamond, it more resembles a 4-2-3-1.
At this Confederations Cup, most European observers have happily jotted down their formation as
4-2-3-1, with LuĂs Fabiano as the centre-forward, Robinho to the left, Kaká as the central
creator and Ramires on the right of the attacking three. Click to continue reading...

Miranda, the best defender in Brazil, was called one more time. Pato was left out again, a clear
sign that Dunga is not happy with him after the striker's disappointing performances at the
Olympics and the Confederations Cup.

One point from two home games is hardly something to be pleased about, but last night's comeback

tightened up considerably in the second period. Not coincidentally, Melbourne showed a lot more
class going forward after the break.
