‘Big Spending’ Tottenham’s transfers since summer 2008

SoccerLens 11 November @ 06:51 AM EST

Much has been made about Tottenham's spending (almost £150m on transfers in the last 16 months), which presumably pushes them above the Big Four in spending and leaves them second only to Manchester City.

On the surface, it's a lot of money for not a lot of success. However, keep in mind that this Tottenham side has also seen a lot of exits, some of them at fairly good prices too.

what does support mean

Dinamo & everything else 29 October @ 12:57 AM EST
Do you change teams when the results go bad ? Poor old baldy, the tribulations of supporting Newcastle United. Nick was the talismanic epicenter of the LA Vale team that was unbelievably successful in 2007 - arguably the most successful football team in Los Angeles ever.
2009 and Nick is the talismanic epicenter of the FK Dinamo team, top scorer, captain, pre-match motivator and all round great bloke, basque anarchist, intellectual, debater, supporter, friend. Click to continue reading...

Supporters Direct Arrive At The Crossroads

Twohundredpercent 17 October @ 09:21 AM EST

This year's annual Supporters Direct conference found the organisation at something of a crossroads. The high profile failure of Supporters Trusts at Notts County and Stockport County have caused a deal of unwanted attention to be cast upon SD (even though they are obviously not for responsible for the goings on at specific trusts) and, with continuing concerns about the credentials of some of the owners coming into the game, this year's conference was always going to carry an underlying theme about two subjects: foreign ownership and the question of whether supporter ownership of clubs is always a good thing.

The 2009/10 Preview: League One (Division Three, In Old Money)

Twohundredpercent 07 August @ 02:02 AM EST

In the penultimate part of our exhaustive Football League pre-season preview, Rob Freeman looks at the runners and riders in League One, a division which is, peculiarly, starting to look a little bit like the bottom half of the Premier League did ten years ago.

1. Huddersfield Town

In: Peter Clarke (Southend United), Antony Kay (Tranmere Rovers), Lee Peltier (Yeovil Town), Jordan Rhodes (Ipswich Town), Theo Robinson (Watford), Robbie Simpson (Coventry City)

Out: Danny Cadamarteri (Dundee United), Michael Flynn (Bradford City), Andy Holdsworth, Keigan Parker, Jon Worthington (Oldham Athletic), Daniel Broadbent, Malvin Kamara, Dominik Werling (all released), Andy Booth (retired)

Huddersfield have splashed the cash this summer, thanks to chairman Dean Hoyle, and Lee Clark looks to have spent it well.

To the death, Mr Cook

SoccerLens 15 July @ 03:32 AM EST

The crowd are tense. The home team are losing one nil, and are pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Wave after wave of attack is repelled. Video: Michael Jackson's speech to Exeter City FC

Soccerblog 06 July @ 11:16 PM EST

Today the King of Pop will be remembered at the Staples Center tribute.

The Exeter City speech took place in 2002 as he was brought on board by Uri Geller, the eccentric telekinesis guru as part of a business venture to save the troubled club. MJ served a brief tenure as a honorary director of the club's football board where it was hoped his celebrity status would put the club on the map.

When the King of Pop met Exeter City

SoccerLens 30 June @ 02:22 AM EST

When it comes to discussing Michael Jackson's legacy, it's fair to say the King of Pop had much more influence on music than he did on football, unless you count Bas Savage's moonwalking goal celebrations for Tranmere Rovers. And if you were going to pick one club for Jackson to leave some form of legacy on, you certainly wouldn't have banked on him dropping by Exeter City's St.
