What exactly did Dalglish mean by "If that's the level they [the players] expect this football club
to play at, they won't be here long"?

Yes, it's the Carling Cup.
Sixty league goals in 105 league matches for Huddersfield Town would suggest a definitive yes, but
hat-tricks against the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Preston and Exeter can't be compared to the
opposition faced in England's top division. Being an...

Forget Roy Keane, among the weapons the now former Bristol Rovers manager Paul Buckle had in his
armoury was an icy stare that could single-handedly re-freeze the polar ice caps. I've seen it used
on misbehaving players in training, at fans who've had a differing opinion, and at journalists
(including myself) who've asked questions that he doesn't think are worth answering (which, on some
occasions, has been a fair response).
Finally confirmed out for the season after a day filled with rumors, it's incredibly hard to
forecast what Liverpool will do without Lucas. He's missed just three of Dalglish's 39 matches:
rested for two, suspended for one. Since 2009, he's missed so few games that it's statistically
irrelevant posting win-loss percentages with and without the player: he appeared in 34 of 38 league
games in '10-11 and 35 of 38 in '09-10.

This weekend's fixtures look like a pretty sedate set on the face of it. Leeds' terrestrially
televised trip across the shires to meet Burnley and what may be the most pathetic grudge in
history, Saints versus Seagulls, are worth keeping on the radar perhaps, but otherwise I can't help
but be drawn down the leagues to the two derbies west of Bristol.
Kenny Dalglish is delighted to have Glen Johnson back in his plans, with the full-back having made
his Premier League return on Saturday.
With just nine minutes of top flight action under his belt prior to the weekend, Johnson came
through a 90-minute outing against Norwich unscathed.
The England international has handed Dalglish something of a selection dilemma at right-back, with
Martin Kelly having shone in his absence, but the Scot is delighted to have such strength in depth.

You may remember Mr.
Liverpool legend John Barnes believes that Liverpool rely too much on Luis Suarez, even going so
far as to suggest that without the Uruguayan striker, the club would struggle to win games. Do you
agree?
Barnes told Goal.com:
"Luis Suarez is fantastic but I wish it was not all about Gerrard and Suarez.

As a fan of a Non-League side it's very rare that I have anyone to talk to about the team I
support. I completely understand why some people will have little or nothing to say about the
Non-League but what really gets on my nerves is when I hear people writing it off as being a poor
level of football.

Phew. Excellent, if direct, first half. Terrifying, nerve-shredding second. This team doesn't do
anything the easy way.
Despite Wolves running at defenders for the first five to ten minutes, snuffed out by Enrique in
open play and Carroll on set pieces, Liverpool settled with another early strike.
Liverpool Draw Stoke in Carling Cup 4th Round
Liverpool have drawn Stoke away in the Carling Cup 4th round. The Reds overcame Brighton &
Hove Albion in the previous round in order to progress to this stage of the competition. Prior to
their 2-1 win down south, Kenny Dalglish's side despatched Exeter away from home in their first
League Cup outing of the season.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's return from injury briefly deflected the spotlight away from
striker Andy Carroll but manager Kenny Dalglish knows it is bound to return.
The club's £35million record signing has yet to score in five Barclays Premier League appearances
- three of which have been starts - with his only goal so far coming against League One Exeter in
the Carling Cup.
Match Review: Brighton 1 Liverpool 2
Liverpool continued their Carling Cup campaign with a deserved win over Brighton in the third
round last night. The encounter at the Amex Stadium was billed as a potential upset, given the home
side's bright form since their return to the Championship, but goals from Craig Bellamy and Dirk
Kuyt ensured the Reds' progress, despite a late penalty from Ashley Barnes.

We'll preface this with "any win after two losses is a good result" and "this was an archetypal
banana skin cup tie and Liverpool advanced." Just in case.
All the arrows in the above formation don't do the team justice.

Harry Redknapp has admitted that Tottenham face a difficult challenge to keep Andy Carroll quiet in
Sunday's Premier League match against Liverpool.
Carroll became the most expensive British player of all time when he moved from Newcastle to
Anfield in a £35million move in January.
Redknapp was also keen on signing the striker, but his price tag put the Spurs boss off and he had
to wait until this month before landing a frontman, with Emmanuel Adebayor signing on loan from
Manchester City.

Liverpool has revealed good news on midfielder Raul Meireles, who will only be out for a couple of

Meireles lasted just 23 minutes of the Reds' 3-1 win at Exeter in the Carling Cup, taking an

goals from Luis Suarez and Maxi Rodriguez.

Kenny Dalglish believes his new-look Liverpool are beginning to hit their stride as the Reds look
to maintain their unbeaten start to the season against Bolton on Saturday.
Dalglish has made wholesale changes at Anfield since taking charge in January - spending over £100
million on new players - and the Scot has already seen signs that his heavy investment is paying
off.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has expressed his delight at star striker Luis Suarez's form this
season.
The Uruguay international made it three goals in three games after he found the back of the net in
Wednesday's 3-1 Carling Cup win at Exeter.
Suarez netted in Liverpool's season-opener against Sunderland before scoring off the bench in last
weekend's 2-0 success over Arsenal.
Jordan Henderson admits he was correctly booked for simulation during Liverpool's Carling Cup win
at Exeter but insists he did not cheat.
Henderson went down inside the box in the second half, with referee Tony Bates waving away penalty
appeals before brandishing the yellow card.
"I think the referee got it right, to be fair," Henderson told the Daily Mirror.

Match Review: Exeter 1 Liverpool 3
Liverpool began their Carling Cup campaign with a simple victory over League One side Exeter at
St. James' Park last night. The Reds ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Luis Suárez, Maxi
Rodríguez and Andy Carroll, the latter two also set up by the Uruguayan striker, who once again
showed his importance to the side.
Liverpool gave Kenny Dalglish his 200th win in charge of the club as Luis Suarez inspired a
comfortable 3-1 victory over Exeter at St James Park in the Carling Cup second round.
The Uruguayan grabbed the opener after 23 minutes as he volleyed home, before teeing up Maxi
Rodriguez and substitute Andy Carroll to put a seal on the victory after the break.
