Back in November 2011, Preston City Council reluctantly announced that the redevelopment of
England's 50th city had hit the buffers. John Lewis had pulled out of the Tithebarn regeneration
scheme in the city centre and, operating as we are "in the middle of one of the worst economic and
financial situations since the 1930s", plans will now be made to scale down the blueprint
accordingly.
Thank God, It's over, that definitely was the reaction of every Barca fan once they heard the
final whistle. I don't remember that in recent history we coming out with such a reaction towards
the end of any match. That was the way we performed in this match, may be that's how they
performed.

We really ought to stop over-analysing these club catalogues. It never makes us happy and what's
the point anyway? They're basically devices to get fans to buy branded merch, and as such, don't
need a shed load of money spent on them.
But still. It's as good a way as any of giving the office snark some exercise.
United States National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann explains a training exercise from US National
Team camp.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Jan 17, 2012) US Soccer Players -- It's the dawn of another Major
League Soccer draft, this time the Supplemental Draft that until recently was part of what made the
SuperDraft super. Now, it's a Tuesday afternoon exercise in player selection minus the television
coverage or live audience.
Recently we discussed the importance of deceleration in relation to high performance training and
injury prevention. We learned about eccentric strength and the role it plays in reducing momentum.
We also made reference to dynamic balance and the importance it plays in maintaining control while
performing skillful athletic movements.
Elite coaching is an art.
This is my response to reader John, who left an excellent set of comments. The last of which
I'll address here.
Specifically:
I'd love to see you talk about specific tactics, Gary. I have no doubt that you are very a
bright guy, but I wish you'd share your knowledge with us.
West Brom's Chris Brunt limped off during the defeat to Everton and is likely to miss out, while
Shane Long is doubtful and Jonas Olsson will sit out with a calf strain. All these key injuries has
led to some despondent West Brom fans to describing this match as an exercise in
"damage
limitation.
Things just keeping getting tougher for goalkeepers. The match balls continue to be more active and
fly faster, attackers are stronger and smarter, and now the U-23 coaching staff has added a new
challenge: the absence of light.
OK, it was just for one session and it wasn't actually planned that way, but it still made the
training interesting.
Al-Sadd state of affairs The Club World Cup receives criticism from some quarters for being nothing
more than a publicity exercise, allowing FIFA to show off some of its clubs in a money-spinning
tournament for the Asian market. Barcelona have today paid the price for taking the competition
seriously and fielding a strong side, when [.
Hands on coach Arsene Wenger has always been praised for the revolutionary training regimes he
brought to English football, but this is a new one on us. There's no indication of whether the
whole squad takes part in this exercise or whether it's Alex Song's special way of securing a
starting berth in the Gunners' [.

In a move that is sure to further infuriate the Toon Army over his ownership of the club,
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has ended 119 years of Newcastle United history and heritage by
re-naming St James' Park the Sports Direct Arena.
Newcastle Chairman Derek Llambias says that Newcastle needed to sell the naming rights to St

"Roman Abramovich has more money than God but Chelsea are out there trying to re-brand Stamford
Bridge to bring in even more money" said Llambias.

With Newcastle riding high in the Premier League, the cynic in me suggests that Mike Ashley may
have bided his time to announce that St James' Park is to be renamed with 'immediate effect' as an
exercise in PR damage limitation but there we go from henceforth, the Toon's ground will be
officially listed as the 'Sports Direct Arena'.

Glen Johnson claims Kenny Dalglish brings the best out in him – by allowing him to play his
natural game.
The full-back admits he was sometimes asked to curtail his attacking instincts under previous boss
Roy Hodgson.
Johnson said: "Kenny knows I am an attacking full-back and he wants me to attack whereas maybe Roy
didn't want me to attack as much.

The ghosts in the public gallery of the House of Commons will listen intently tomorrow. Their

In these harsh economic times it's worthwhile considering every possible outlet when it comes to
cost cutting and sport can lend a hand. Go for a run instead of going to the gym, playing football
in the park rather than paying pitch fees or cycling to work instead of driving.
The latter mentioned is perhaps the most commonly taken option when it comes to cutting costs and
through a bit of exercise in there for good measure.
No, we won't be discussing fire trucks, school buses or South African aliens today. It's literally
the pinnacle of our 4-3-3, the striker. It's also the easiest top choice this side of Tim Howard in
our little exercise. This is the most straightforward job description on the field, really.
Naturally, our #9 wants to stay in the middle of the field, make the center backs work, drop back

Bellamy takes second chance to impress
Craig Bellamy's previous life at Liverpool is best remembered for his attempts to improve his
golf swing by taking a club to John Arne Riise on a team bonding exercise on the Algarve. Bellamy's
willingness to make life difficult for.
I'm on the grid, trying to show our new goalkeeper a thing or two about how our defense does
things. In this training exercise, if he fails to catch the ball cleanly enough times, he's
derezzed.
"Come on Bryan, you have to be better than that to cope with Hurtado's breakdowns!" I exhort,
not seeing the Sigibot saunter up.
Juan Mata believes that AVB is the right man to lead Chelsea charge for silverware this season and
believes you will see us adopt the Porto style of modern attacking football.
I posted yesterday an article stating that Pat Nevin believed we would so the same and Mata has
more or less confirmed it.
ussoccer.com has put together a number of "Inside the Lines" over the years, giving fans the chance
to see what they love the most: the team playing soccer. It's one of our most popular video
series.

This time around, "Inside the Lines" worked out as one long take, which makes for a
pretty cool look at training.
While we're all basking in the glow of taking one big step toward entry in the Champions League
group stage, there are also a few news items to sort through, so let's get started.
First, a few folks were discussing the terms of Wenger's suspension from the touchline during
yesterday's match.
Are you an athlete, coach, teacher or school administrator at a middle or high school? If so,
here's a great opportunity we heard about to apply for some state-of-the-art concussion software
which can help combat concussions.

The U.S. Men's National Team went through a short training session on Monday morning, putting in an
hour of work on the field before getting out of the heat. The majority of the players arrived on
Sunday night, meaning there were good numbers for Jurgen Klinsmann's second session in charage of
the MNT.
Arsenal's former vice-chairman David Dein insists Arsene Wenger remains the best man to lead the
Gunners, despite six seasons without a trophy at the Emirates Stadium.
Dein has remained in close contact with Wenger since leaving Arsenal after the pair spent 11
largely successful years working together.
Real Madrid have sent 20-year-old midfielder Sergio Canales to Valencia on a season-long loan.
Canales could join Valencia on a more long-term basis should the club exercise an option to sign
him permanently.
"It's very satisfying to know that a club like Valencia are interested in me," said Canales, who
is on duty with Spain at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.
If you take the press at their dubious word, then Ron Gourlay claims we're to add two additional
pieces to the mix in the next fortnight. Some are suggesting these signings are Courtois and Romeu-
while others are speculating there are in fact two other players on the horizon. Personally, I'm
thinking this is more likely the former rather than the latter.
Obviously, this is a ridiculous exercise and the team will be very different come August 13. But
for what it's worth, here's my first pass at a line-up. Since I first set this up, Ben Arfa has
been injured, Briggs has moved down the pecking order, N'Zogbia has been linked to - but not landed
by - Aston Villa, and Ba.
I DIDN'T SEE ANY OF THE ACTION IN JOHANNESBURG THIS WEEKEND BUT THE general feeling
among the online community seems to be that there was enough turgid African-themed nonsense from
men in white shirts last summer, to have to sit through ninety minutes of that parp.
Thank-you-very-much.

Thank-you-very-much. And, also that it's pre-season and we probably shouldn't read too much into
it.
Our latest fat-chewing exercise has put us in the genial company of Neil Allison, landlord of the
Sky Blues Blog, an essential stopping off point for all things Coventry City. If you don't support
the Sky Blues and you think your club is a selling one, read on - although it should be said that
Neil generally just about manages to retain his optimism.
I'm not sure it will come down to anything quite that simple, but for the purposes of today's
exercise, let's compare the impact of Juan Mata vs. Samir Nasri. First we'll need to make a couple
of assumptions. The first assumption is that we'll keep Cesc. The Mata-Nasri discussion is still a
valid debate whether we keep Cesc or not, but I think it will be simpler if we assume for the
moment that Cesc stays.
By Waleed Ahmed This article is not meant as an exercise in fantasy, but rather as a discussion of
Arsenal's strengths and weaknesses, and our approach next season, based on signings. So starting
from that point, this is what I would like to happen this summer. Cesc, Nasri, and Clichy stay.
Cesc does not have [.
When talking to players and coaches about their training they all tell me the same thing, "I want
to work on speed so I can be quicker on the field". Their focus is on speed training but with no
real understanding on what type of speed training they should do. Most of their training involves
sprinting distances in a straight line.
