The Liverpool defender set up The 23 Foundation earlier this year to provide grants to young people
on Merseyside.

This season has not started the best for Everton, so far they have been unable to recapture the
form they showed last season in the league and sit a lowly 13th. Couple this with two heavy
defeats and the hands of Benfica in the Europa league and things aren't looking so rosy for David
Moyes and his men.

Wayne Rooney, who caused a fuss last season by telling a national newspaper he "hated" Liverpool
FC, has today confessed that when he was growing up as an Everton fan, he used United's success to
wind up any Liverpool fans he came across.

Everton were unable to turnaround their 5-0 away loss to Benfica, losing again to the Portuguese
club 2-0 at Goodison Park on Thursday. Javier Saviola scored in the 63rd and Oscar Rene Cardozo
followed in the 76th for the win. Tim Howard made nine saves for Everton, three more than his
opposite number Jacobi Julio Cesar who picked up the shutout.
