One of the things to do when reviewing the release of the USSDA/USSF Academy ratings is figure out how the MLS teams rate compared to each other. The Philadelphia Union are hard to rate as their structure is unique at the Academy level. One of the ratings (Player Development) seems to favor teams on the East as they are more likely to get picked for national team games due to a proximity bias and it also rewards teams that sign players that they don't intend to play.

US Soccer has released their evaluations of the US Soccer Development Academy clubs for the 2010-2011 season and one MLS club was rated as the top club in the country out of the 78 clubs that participated.

My pal Daniel over at BigDSoccer pulled this all together earlier and found out that FC Dallas had the top rated academy in the country during the 2010-11 season.

The Youth Movement


As the DC United roster of last season was dismantled and retooled it became apparent we were amidst a rebuilding process focused around youth. The foundation of the team came from young players such as Najar, Pontius and Jakovic and was being complimented by Davies, Kitchen and McCarty.

I hate tryouts. I've always hated tryouts. Kids are stressed. Parents are stressed. Coaches are stressed. Some of it reasonable, some of it not. In some areas with large programs, it amazes me the intrigue and drama that goes on with the 'B' teams and the accusations (sometimes valid, sometimes not) of clubs considering things other than skill in their evaluations.
