As we all know, in the past, MLS has not had the best reputation with regards to refereeing. In
fact, some would call it downright abysmal. I'm one of those people. More so than anything else in
the sport, I hate losing due to a shitty referee call.
US Soccer has released their evaluations of the US Soccer Development Academy clubs for the
2010-2011 season and one MLS club was rated as the top club in the country out of the 78 clubs that
participated.
My pal Daniel over at BigDSoccer pulled this all together earlier and found out that FC Dallas
had the top rated academy in the country during the 2010-11 season.

One of the things to do when reviewing the release of the USSDA/USSF Academy ratings is figure
out how the MLS teams rate compared to each other. The Philadelphia Union are hard to rate as their
structure is unique at the Academy level. One of the ratings (Player Development) seems to favor
teams on the East as they are more likely to get picked for national team games due to a proximity
bias and it also rewards teams that sign players that they don't intend to play.
As the DC United roster of last season was dismantled and retooled it became apparent we were
amidst a rebuilding process focused around youth. The foundation of the team came from young
players such as Najar, Pontius and Jakovic and was being complimented by Davies, Kitchen and
McCarty.
I hate tryouts. I've always hated tryouts. Kids are stressed. Parents are stressed. Coaches are
stressed. Some of it reasonable, some of it not. In some areas with large programs, it amazes me
the intrigue and drama that goes on with the 'B' teams and the accusations (sometimes valid,
sometimes not) of clubs considering things other than skill in their evaluations.

Jimmy Conrad has been diagnosed with a concussion following his head-to-head collision just before
halftime. Jimmy was taken to the hospital and the evaluations were negative. He is listed as
day-to-day.
He is back at the hotel, and other than not remembering the play, is doing well. Good news for
Jimmy.
With a desperate Haitian team coming to Foxborough to face a USA "D" team any result was on the
table. But sadly when a match of this magnitude is played on artificial turf, it is difficult to
make evaluations about the play and specific players with much certainty. While fans or MLS or USL
often defend turf, those games are played at a slower pace which is less affected by the odd
bounces of turf and are quite frankly more often than not, less important than this game was to the
