It took four rounds of play but the Champions League group stages is finally heating up.
If the group stages finished as they are now, then Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool would
all be playing in the Europa League.
Jose Mourinho and Inter Milan were five minutes away from an 9th consecutive Champions League
game without a win, when two late goals not only gave Inter the win, but also propelled them to
first place in the group.
Finally, the victory we've been waiting for. The victory we needed. Our team, loaded with a
hastily-assembled talent and led by an excellent coach, just needed a little but of confidence to
gel and see us through, and we got it tonight with a decisive Europe League win over Portuguese
powerhouse Benfica.
The UEFA Europa League had another full set of group stage matches on Wednesday, December 2,
2009. A few of the favorites had road wins including Ajax Amsterdam, Benfica, Everton, and
Villarreal. Overall, most of the home teams won and some of the spots for the knockout stage were

Fenerbahce, Shakhtar Donetsk, Werder Bremen, Hamburg, Red Bull Salzburg, Galatasaray, and
Villarreal.
Welcome aboard for another edition of the Sound Of Football Podcast. This week your master of
ceremonies Chris Oakley, ably assisted by is ushers Graham Sibley and Terry Duffelen discuss the
comings and goings (with the emphasis on the latter) in the world of football.
First up is beleaguered Hull City boss Phil Brown but unlike others the chaps aren't too quick to
poke him with sharp sticks until he falls over the precipice.
No hay más señores. Esta es la última jornada de la fase de grupos de la UEFA

It was quite the week for French teams in European football where Lyon showed incredible poise and
Hugo Lloris certainly scored some points as the # 1 goalkeeper for France for the World Cup...it
was also somewhat poetic justice to see a team Houllier successfully coached for 2 years beat
Benitez's Liverpool at Anfield.

2:45pm, live in the US on DirecTV. Because it's basically meaningless, it's not on either FSC or
Setanta. It's on one of those stations (channel 462 in this case; 462-1 in HD) that show every
Champions League and Europe League game. I sincerely apologize for rubbing it in if you can't get
or afford DirecTV, but I adore it.

The managerial merry-go-round kicked off in England a couple of weeks ago with the sacking of
Mark Hughes, and it continued today as Bolton manager Gary Megson became the next Premier League
boss to get the boot.
Bolton have been polar opposites of Manchester City.
