After I wrote a while ago that Manchester City were the clear favourites for the Premier League
title this year, my opinion seems to have changed over the past few weeks. Their recent form has
seen them playing decent enough but Manchester United have gone that extra mile. Manchester City
has lost on far too many occasions this season.
The Italian defender was born in Bari, 28th June, 1971. He began his career at local club, Bari, in
1988 who he went on to make 75 appearances for, scoring 8 goals. Amoruso spent 1991-1993 on loan at
Mantova and Pescara, but only featured intermittently. In 1995 he secured a move to Fiorentina,
becoming club captain and making 54 appearances.
Carlo Ancelotti joined PSG in December after being sacked by Chelsea. The Italian won the double
in his first season but failed to inspire The Blues as they finished without a trophy the following
season.
The 52-year-old admitted he was hoping to replace Arsene Wenger in north London.
Having had a great win at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City in the Carling Cup on
Wednesday night, expect to see Kenny re-introduce the likes of Jose Enriqué, Maxi Rodriguez as
well as the combination of returning Captain Steven Gerrard to play alongside Charlie Adam in
midfield in the absence of young Jay Spearing who did his hamstring on Wednesday.
Together at the summit of the Premier League table, the thought of the last 32 of Europa League,
rather than the glamorous knockout stages of the Champions League, provides the stark contrast by
which Manchester City and Manchester United must define their seasons.
After winning the FA Cup last season, and qualifying for the Champions League, sky looked to be
the limit for Roberto Mancini's side.

There's only one piece of soccer news that really matters to American soccer fans today, and no,
Eli, it's not that Philadelphia Union signed a deal with Rosenberg's Peanut Chews, which apparently
are a source of some great conflict among the PSP staff.
Yep, it's Landon Donovan going to Everton.
The draws for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and the Europa League Round of 32 took
place in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday. In the Champions League, holders FC Barcelona meet German
club Bayer 04 Leverkusen as they continue their title defence. Arguably the round's most
competitive series sees seven time winners AC [.
‘Oh, is there a match on darling?' It's sweet of Adriana to sound even vaguely excited on my
behalf.
It's the first time today that I've thought about football. I've known for a while that I would
be working late so I put it to one side, and anyway sitting next to Adriana for the afternoon's
meeting is distraction enough.

It may well be the preserve of Thursday nights and Channel Five, but the Europa League, now
ready for the knock-out stages is still peppered with some of Europe's big guns. Probably the
biggest in the competition, Manchester United, will face another all-time European great, Ajax, in
the last 32, a tie which has more than a hint of glamour.

the contract has been approved by Major League Soccer and awaits Gomez' signature before the Union

Chasing a huge goal difference swing and needing POAK to beat Rubin Kazan elsewhere, the odds
were against Tottenham making it through to the knockout phases last night, but they held up their
end of the bargain by racking up an impressive drubbing of Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Steven
Pienaar, Andros Townsend (a real beauty, well worth watching the highlights for), Jermain Defoe and
Harry Kane all bagging a goal apiece.
Mistaken identity What do mean you can't see it? They're like two peas in a pod. Just ask Greek
referee Michael Koukoulakis, who managed to confuse the pair during last night's Europa League

ATLETICO DE MADRID finished top of their EUROPA LEAGUE Group I after defeating French Club RENNES
3 - 1. The French side came with more reserves than regular players & thus the match was not as
intense for the locals as expected, & thankfully so. Falcao scores Low attending crowd of around

Tottenham Hotspur went to the Tallaght stadium needing a Lyon type turnaround to make it through
to the knock-out rounds. From his team selection, including only choosing four subs, it appeared
that Harry Redknapp wasn't really counting on the results going Spurs way.
As the game got started it was clear that Shamrock would try hard and run around a lot.

Unbeaten going into the game, ten-man Stoke stumbled to defeat in Turkey in their final Group E
game, though it mattered little with them having already booked their place in the knockout phase
courtesy of a draw against Dinamo Kiev last time out.

FC Twente may well have lost 2-1 in Krakow last night (to send Fulham packing), surrendering
their unbeaten group stage run in the process, but they definitely scored the goal of the night
through Luuk de Jong's impeccable 39th minute bicycle kick...
Pretty.

In which, coming back from an advert break at half-time during Fulham's game against Odense, Jim
and Stan get 'caught' signing a rousing, tongue-in-cheek rendition of 'Thursday Nights, Channel
Five!' the new wave football chant used to mock big clubs that suffer untimely Champions League
exits and which, depending on who you choose to believe, may be the song that got Ashley Cole a
slapping after he sung it in the tunnel when Chelsea beat Man City on Monday.
Jonathan Spector's Birmingham City take on Slovenia's SK Maribor at St Andrews tonight, knowing
their Europa League odyssey will come to an end if they fail to win."We are making a good run of
it, " Spector told NSC, "so hopefully we can advance to the group stage. We definitely want to make
the most of this and get as far as we possibly can.

Fulham were dumped out of the Europa League with the very last touch of the game when Odense
slung in a deep cross and substitute Baye Djiby Fall nodded in an equaliser at the far post with
roughly four seconds left to play (the referee blew for full-time during the goal celebration),
thus robbing the Cottagers of the points they needed to edge out Wisla Krakow, who beat
table-toppers FC Twente on the night to finish second in Group K -just one point ahead of Martin
Jol's side.
The derogatory chanting aimed at Manchester United and Manchester City following their Europa
League 'qualification' not least by Ashley Cole could be taken as an insult by the broadcaster.
Instead they wisely decided to treat it as free advertising. Presenters Jim Rosenthal and Stan

Wilson, Wilson, Wilson Quite often footballers get stick for not beating the first man with their
corners. This effort from Stoke midfielder Wilson Palacios would have loved to make it to the first
man. Being cleared by a defender at the near post with a comfortable header would have been
perfection for this corner.

THFC1882 present a guest preview by Rob:
Shamrock Rovers v Tottenham Hotspur, Thursday 15th December 6pm KO ITV4
So here we are, at the last match in the laborious group stage of the Europa League. A
competition that is supposed to be the second best European competition to win but in my opinion is
just plain second rate as shown by the fact that not that many teams are interested in playing in
it.
Two exits within the space of a week. That is the reality of the season so far for Manchester
United; one that started so brightly with good, positive football that had us all purring and
brimming...

Most likely, fans around the world who don't have any connection with Manchester either
football wise or any other wise, are sick and tired of all the talk and banter surrounding the
surprising exits of both Man Utd and Man City from the knockout stages of this year's UEFA
Champions League tournament.
Rumours, rumours, every where; nor any drop to drink. Oh, wait, there's some bourbon. Which must
mean it's time to dip into the sordid world of transfer rumours to see who's being linked to
Liverpool to replace you-know-who, as focus shifts from talk of luxury acquisitions and South
American starlets to Liverpool's sudden need for a bit of steel in midfield.
Manchester United were dumped out of Europe's elite cup competition after a 2-1 defeat to Basel so
it is adios to the Champions League and hello to the UEFA Europa League! The draw for the Europa
League round of 32 and round of 16 will be held on 16 December 2011 on the same day [...] Related

So after an exciting first round in the Champions League, there are a few shocks and surprises
as the competition takes a 2 month break. Of course the major shocks are the exiting of Man United,
Ajax and Valencia.
Joining that clubs that had already qualified to the knock out stages are: Lyon, Basel, CSKA
Moscow and Napoli.
