Costa Rica Faces Elimination Wednesday

Uruguay have taken a big step towards qualifying for the FIFA World Cupâ„¢ finals after beating ten-man Costa Rica 1-0 away from home in the first leg of their qualifying play-off.

A first-half goal from Diego Lugano gave Oscar Tabarez's side strong hopes of playing in South Africa next year, following their failure to qualify for the 2006 finals in Germany.

Uruguay se presentó en el Estadio Ricardo Sapprisa, bien parapetado y con gran fuerza en la recuperación en media cancha con Alvaro Fernández, Alvaro González y Sebastián Eguren, dejando para enganchar a Nicolás Lodeiro y al frente los imprescindibles Luis Suárez y Diego Forlán, logrando el triunfo con gol del gran capitán, Diego Lugano en el minuto 21.

Tickets finally went on sale today throughout the country for the second leg of the CONCACAF/CONMEBOL playoff between Uruguay and Costa Rica in Montevideo. Round 13 of South American World Cup qualifiers has passed and surprisingly 4 of the 5 road teams won their matches. Only Argentina defended their home turf after "El Cata" Diaz scored in the 56th minute to keep Los Albicelestes in 4th place.

Brazil moved to the top of the standings with their impressive 4-0 win versus Uruguay at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

Si estas jugando Eliminatoria para Mundial Vs. Brasil y tu portero comete dos errores que se transforman en goles, es muy difícil sacar un buen resultado. En un encuentro extraño la selección carioca se impusó  su similar charrúa, desde hacía 33 años no perdía Uruguay con Brasil en el Estadio Centenario y la primera vez que Brasil los vence en este recinto en eliminatoiras, por lo cuál tomó tintes de histórico, sería exagerado llamarlo "Centenariazo", pero si dolió.
