New Technical Director, Michael Emenalo is featured this morning on Skysports speaking of the
Michael Essien injury and has openly admitted that Chelsea may not look to replace him this season
and stick with what we have in his position.
When asked about replacing Essien who is out for six months he said:
"The squad is littered with world-class players and the idea of replacing someone or
not replacing someone sounds a little bit ludicrous.
Chelsea have confirmed on the Official Website the news that Michael Essien will be out for six
months.
The statement reads:
Following injury to his right knee in training last week Michael Essien had surgery
today to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.
Let's get one thing straight and to put on record here right now, news of yet another injury to
Michael Essien's knee is a major blow to us ahead of this season.
It doesn't matter what you think of Essien's performance last season, we have to put that to one
side and think about what he does bring to the squad and the first team.
As reported in plenty of newspapers today, it seems that Jose Mourinho has an eye on making a move
for Michael Essien. Their are figures being touted of between £18 - £35m for the our
midfielder.
Essien in the last few days, has become the focus of media attention with his name being linked to
a possible Chelsea move for Wesley Sneijder and being sold to Inter as part of the deal and now we
have reports that Real Madrid are interested.
After speculation this week that he would be involved as part of the deal to bring Wesley Sneijder
to Stamford Bridge, Michael Essien has insisted he is unaware of speculation regarding his Chelsea
future and his future lies with us.
He said:
"I do not care about the rumours, I am calm.
I reported yesterday that Guus Hiddink has told Roman Abramovich to try and do all he can to sign
Wesley Sneijder and Italian Newspaper
Corriere dello Sport is reporting that Chelsea are
doing just that!.
However it seems that Chelsea are offering Michael Essien and Florent Malouda as part of the deal
for Sneijder!
According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, AC Milan are planning a raid on the Premier League this
summer to bolster their midfield and one of those players is Michael Essien. It's believed that
Essien has been a long term target for Milan and with rumours of a hefty transfer kitty being put
to one side, Chelsea could find themselves having to put up with enquiries in the coming weeks from
the Italians.
