We've got two more images (click through the jump for the second) from the guys photoshoot for
ESPN The Magazine's 'The Body Issue.' These two didn't make the final cut, but were under
consideration for inclusion in the issue that hits newsstands tomorrow. Photos below by Matthias

You know, I never do the CAPTION THIS thing, but this one was too good to pass up . . . .
. . . . As if Red Bulls fan needed another reason to poke fun at their DC rivals.

Dan Steinberg of D.C. Sports Bog will have a full report about D.C. United's involvement in ESPN
The Magazine's soon-to-hit-newsstands Body Issue, but below is a very small sneak peak. United
players are seen right round the 54-second mark, with a short comment from Ben Olsen about his
dreams of coming out on the field naked.

More Nats news after Jimmy was named to the latest roster. The U.S. Men's National Team is once
again highlighted by a major ESPN property, ESPN the Magazine. Luke Cyphers followed the team
around during the last pair of World Cup qualifiers, joining the team in Salt Lake City prior to
the 2-1 win over El Salvador and remaining with them through a 1-0 win away to Trinidad and Tobago.

Alright, over here in the States we don't get as much Soccer coverage as we should. I admit
that.
I get ESPN The Magazine and there was an interesting piece in there about the "Everton Way" and
how it is used all over the place to train young players because... Everton has to be better at
training.

Sports Illustrated senior writer Grant Wahl's soon to be released book, "The Beckham
Experiment", reveals that ESPN paid 19 Entertainment, Mr. Davey Becks' management company, to
produce the hour-long documentary which was broadcast before his first match with the LA Galaxy
back in 2007.
In what Wahl describes as an "example of checkbook journalism", the program entitled "David
Beckham: New Beginnings" (part one above, the rest is on YouTube) was positioned as an insidery
look at the lead up to Davey's move to Los Angeles something ESPN The Magazine failed to get when
19 Entertainment denied them interview access to Beckham.

If you have never heard the name Eric Frimpong (pictured in blue), then chances are you aren't
familiar with his story. It is a sad story of a soccer player who seemingly had the world at his
feet before a series of events changed his life forever.
ESPN the Magazine's Sam Alipour has written about Frimpong's story, and it is a must-read.

In a follow-up piece to our discussion on whether soccer to have more statistics to thrive
in the States, Josh Crockett looks at the history of American sports culture and concludes it's the
stories behind the numbers that matter.
[America has] had, after all, a century of the most extraordinary and compelling sporting
stories to savor and reflect upon.

I was recently asked by ESPN the Magazine writer Chris Sprow whether I paid much attention to
statistics in football. My answer was pretty abrupt, and didn't exactly highlight me as a scholar
of the statistical side of the game. "I honestly hardly ever look at stats," I told him, and he
quoted me with that in this look at statistics and the appeal of soccer in the States.

A quick quiz related to the Barcelona-Manchester United final on live at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday on
ESPN.
You know this game is big when:
A. ESPN actually recognizes soccer exists and puts Barcelona's Lionel Messi on the cover of
ESPN: The Magazine.
B. ESPN shows the final on well, ESPN, compared to ESPN2 or ESPN Classic, which is where it
usually shows UEFA ECL contests.

Finally, a major sports magazine has a true soccer star on its cover and as its feature story! And
I don't count Kobe Bryant wearing a Barcelona jersey on the cover of ESPN the Magazine. It is great
to finally see this publication put Barca star Lionel Messi on its cover and do a feature story on
him, which you can read by clicking this link!

This Wednesday's Champions League Final will be a mix of emotions both on and off the pitch.
Reason being is that it'll be ESPN's last coverage of the Champions League before they hand the
"keys" over to Fox Soccer Channel and Setanta Sports for next season. After broadcasting the
Champions League for 15 years, I for one will definitely miss ESPN's coverage.

I don't think there are two writers who I am more engrossed in than author Malcolm Gladwell and
ESPN's Bill Simmons.
Gladwell continues to churn out books that promote thought - "The Tipping Point", "Blink" and

Can anyone imagine that a major American sports star like Kobe Bryant would wear a Barcelona jersey
on the cover of a mainstream sports magazine like ESPN the Magazine 5 years ago? 10 years ago?
Does this mean that soccer has finally arrived in the United States as a major sport? Obviously the
answer to that question is no.
