As seems to be common, the week following an international break sort of works as a slow start
back into the stream of futbol. The great matches don't start until the Champions League picks up
on Tuesday. Most clubs are back in action this weekend, but there aren't any marquee matchups to
talk about.

La Liga Talk 20 November @ 04:45 AM EST
It is Friday, which means it is time to prepare for non-stop action from Spain with La Liga back
in the fray. After an intense week of World Cup qualifying playoffs, the focus turns back to the
domestic responsibilities.
The times listed are Eastern Standard Time (EST) and include the pregame pleasantries, although
sometimes the matches on the DIRECTV La Liga specific channels may not go to match coverage until
right before kickoff.

Late again this week, but this time I'm blaming being busy in Buenos Aires, though I am. This
week, I'm blaming the off again/on again wifi that I have where I am living in Buenos Aires. I move
next week and I'm hoping it will improve then.
European club football takes the weekend off, so there are fewer much fewer matches this week
than in recent weeks.

Sorry futbol fans as I am again a little late with the television listings again this week, but
it still is busy for us here in Buenos Aires and as long as we get the listings posted by Friday
evening, we feel we're doing pretty well and we hope that everything is here in time to do you some
good.

La Liga Talk 06 November @ 05:00 AM EST
With the confusing TV schedules for La Liga in the United States every week, it is quite
difficult to figure out who is playing when and on what channel. Every Friday, I will lay out the
TV schedule so that every fan of La Liga has a place to go to see when and where their favorite
team will play.

I know this is kind of late, but things have been busy here in Buenos Aires. Look for the
Stadium Tour entries to continue as I was able to attend the Boca Juniors / Chacarita Juniors match
at La Bombonera on Thursday.
Putting together this list just keeps getting more and more frustrating.

I attribute it to the fact that I got on this late this week, but ESPN has its schedules up, so
the list below should be pretty thorough.
As we return to club action this weekend (Thank God!!!), we have a large set of great games and
most of them are going to take place on Saturday. Unfortunately, that is going to result in three
of the best matches taking place at the same time.

Welcome back, football fans. For the moment, I'm temporarily suspending my feud with ESPN. (I
call it a feud even though I believe that in order for it to actually be a feud, ESPN would have to
start arguing with me or, at least, recognize that I exist.) It does appear that ESPN has posted
it's schedule for the weekend with days to spare for a change, for what it's worth given the few
games being broadcast, so those matches are included below.

I previewed Wednesday's Chivas USA-CD Guadalajara game Wednesday at the Rose Bowl. Read the
column here.
BTW, two Chivas USA players - Gerson Mayen and Jorge Flores - won't play because they, along
with UCLA goalkeeper Brian Perk and midfielder Michael Stevens, are in Egypt preparing for the FIFA
Under-20 World Cup that starts Thursday.

Perhaps the most difficult to do this week (aside from getting information on ESPN 360's
schedule while in Europe) is limiting the games in the list of the weekly best to just five. Unlike
a few weeks ago, there are no major marquee matchups, but there are just so many good ones to
choose from.

Sorry to be a little lax in the posting recently, but we here at WCR are getting ready for the
new WCR Top 25. Okay, even though the new edition should be much more meaningful, at least with
respect to certain regions, the main reason for the laxness is that we are traveling.
The travelling will affect this weeks television listing in a few ways.

With an international week upon us, there will be no action, televised or otherwise, in most of the
world's top domestic leagues. Despite the international break, however, and despite the fact that
Brazil, Mexico and the United States are participating in World Cup qualifiers, those three
nations' domestic leagues all will see reduced-strength clubs playing in local action.

Hail, hail the season has arrived!!! And arrived in fantastic fashion, at that. This week, we have
it all. No matter where your heart lies, there probably is a great match taking place there this
weekend. England? The Gunners are heading to Old Trafford to take on defending Premiership
champions Manchester United.

EPL Talk 25 August @ 06:55 AM EST
The result may not have satisfied Liverpool supporters, but the coverage of ESPN USA's first
Monday afternoon Premier League game of the season was splendid to watch.
Instead of utilizing the cast of characters from Bristol, CT, ESPN wisely decided to use the
feed from ESPN UK.

Keeping track of all of the ways that soccer fans in the United States can watch the sport on
television suddenly got very confusing in the past week with the addition of ESPN2 to the Premier
League TV rights package, as well as the glittering array of Champions League matches being shown
across Fox's TV networks nationwide.

The time many of you have been waiting for is here. The English Premiership season debuts this
weekend!!!! Though I'm aware that some of you still are patiently awaiting the beginning of La Liga
and Serie A, but this weekend's debuts are enough to celebrate. We can celebrate the other debuts
in the next few weeks.

According to EPL Talk.com, ESPN has acquired the TV rights to two of the weekly Premier League
slots on US television for the 2009-2010 season. With FSC now having Champions League soccer and
ESPN Prem games, it seems that soccer on TV in the US has been turned on it's head. Beginning on
August 15, 2009, each week ESPN will feature the 6:45am CT Saturday game and the 2pm CT Monday
game.

I must have missed it while I was on vacation, but ESPN 360 is FINALLY
available to those of us who use Comcast as their internet service provider (ISP). I have been
frustrated numerous times over the last several years when ESPN made a game available exclusively
on 360 and while a good share of the country could watch, we Comcast customers were left
wanting.

Once again, the soccer world shifts into a higher gear, this being August and everything, and once
again, we have new entries into the weekend football television schedule. This week, the two new
additions of note are the Bundesliga on GolTV and Ligue Un on Setanta USA as the German and French
leagues begin play this weekend.

OTWT home office is a buzz as ESPN 360 is up and running that means more preseason games for the
second installment of the preseason notebook.
• After a terrible Champions League Final United's Anderson looks like he is going to grow up a
little.
• He might not be Ronnie, but few are, Valencia might be better then people think.

As we head into August, the real action begins. The big news of the football television world is
that Friday begins the opening weekend of the Eredivisie, with Ajax and PSV both being broadcast on
ESPN 360 and the PSV match also being broadcast on ESPN Deportes. The other relatively exciting
action takes place in Spain where the most star-studded of the pre-season tournaments concludes.

It's beginning to feel like we're back, baby!!! True, most of the matches involving good clubs this
weekend are exhibitions and don't count for much, but there are a butt-load of matches on
television and some of the top clubs are involved. It's a great way to get back into gear for the
regular season.

We're a little late this week with the television schedule, but we've been a little under the
weather here at WCR, but hopefully we're not too late.
Once again, following an exciting midweek of action, there is not a lot going on in club football
this weekend. The two major highlights of the weekend football world, at least on American
television, are the Gold Cup quarterfinals and exhibition action featuring European clubs taking on
North American, hmm, competition.

Once again, the dearth of football action on television is pretty deep this weekend, but there are
a few pockets of action worth watching. In North America, the final leg of the group stage of the
Gold Cup takes place Friday through Sunday, primarily on Spanish-language networks. In South
America, Defensor Sporting and Nacional continue their seemingly never-ending battle for the
championship of Uruguay on Sunday.

Okay, we are finally hitting rock bottom with the lack of world football on television. Only the
need for continuity inspires me even to post this week's edition of the weekly football schedule.
But OCD I am, so the list must go on.
At least it's fair to say that what we do have going on is pretty interesting.

The world of football gets quieter and quieter as it always does this time of year, but it's not
silent because, well, there's always SOMETHING going on, isn't there? This week, there are two
major items of note. The first comes out of South Africa. The Confederations Cup third-place match
and championship both take place on Sunday.

On English language websites yesterday the big news surrounding ESPN is about the network
acquiring Setanta's package to air Premier League matches in the UK. But perhaps bigger news was
made stateside as ESPN returned to showing regular European league football for the first time
since losing La Liga rights in the early part of this decade.

Even now, during the off-season, we still have football on television during the weekend. There's
not nearly as much, and it may not be as important (though that is debatable), but it's out there
if you need it. Frankly, I need it.
The highlight of the weekend, of course, is the final group stage matches of the Copa Libertadores.

South Africa vs Iraq (Johannesburg) Group A, 9am, ESPN2/360.

The club season is over in most of Europe, and that means that summer is here and football on
television will be relatively non-existent. We do, however, get to ease into the transition because
this week, there are several international matches, mostly World Cup qualifiers, but a few
friendlies, that will be on all over your television set.
