Arsenal-Tottenham Satruday Morning on ESPN 2

Wicked Deflection 30 October @ 12:09 PM EST
Arsenal won midweek in the Carling Cup 2-1 over Liverpool, so Liverpool are out, and Arsenal advance.
Tomorrow morning is the North London Derby, and it's on ESPN 2 (8:30 a.m. Eastern, I believe).
The consecutive draws, in the two matches before the Carling Cup victory, were a pain, especially the loss of the 0-2 lead against West Ham in the league. Click to continue reading...

USA vs Honduras: Raising the Bar

Soccer Tickets Online 10 October @ 07:00 AM EST

It is one of the biggest games in the soccer history of both countries. Both squads must wait four years to have another chance as good as the one that they will see this weekend as Honduras hosts the United States in a critical World Cup Qualifier. A win will put both squads in Position A for a spot in next years World Cup and a loss will make it that much more unlikely.

MLS’ TV Problem: Discussing Possible Solutions

Major League Soccer Talk 26 August @ 03:52 PM EST

With news of the remarkable TV ratings the English Premier League has achieved on ESPN2 this past Saturday morning and Monday afternoon, comes the question again about MLS' TV strategy and viability. Both games which were timed oddly for the US TV audience outdrew every MLS primetime telecast this season on ESPN2 that has not included the expansion Seattle Sounders.

Lopez's Wonderstrike

Hillcrest Road 26 July @ 12:01 AM EST
If you click on the photo (taken by Wizards team photog Gary Rohman) to blow it up, you will see some mouths open on the fans behind the goal. Great shot. It's grainey b/c we downloaded a small file size.
That one will certainly be up for Goal of the Week. Claudio Lopez collects a loose ball on the Wizards side of the half line, takes a lateral touch then rips a 56-yard blast over the outstretched hand of LA goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts for his 5th strike of the season. Click to continue reading...

ESPN2 Color Commentator

Hillcrest Road 24 July @ 11:38 AM EST
Last time around it was John Harkes (right), now it's Alexi Lalas (left). For some ready Getty doesn't allow this full file to be downloaded, but I think this preview image gets the point across. This shot was taken after the 1999 season, which was Lalas' only year here in Kansas City. He will be back tomorrow night, serving as the color commentator to play-by-play man Rob Stone on ESPN2's broadcast of the 8 p. Click to continue reading...

All about Cristiano

The Beautiful Game (2) 07 July @ 02:23 PM EST
Ronaldo gets his grief. Maybe rightfully so considering his flopping, tanning and Paris Hilton-included social life.
But only a select few players in the world would be able to get 80,000 people to show up for an unveiling. The turnout even surprised the star player:
"I never imagined that fans would have such a feeling for me," he said.

Following a bye week, D.C. United return to MLS action tonight to face the defending MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. ET before a national television audience on ESPN 2. The Fourth of July match up is the first meeting of the season between the Eastern Conference foes and it promises to be a good one as the teams are separated by just a point at the top of the Eastern Conference table, United sitting in first place with 23 points while Columbus has just one loss in their last 11 meetings to catapult to second place with 22 points.

WPS and EPL Big Winners for FOX in Ratings Game

Major League Soccer Talk 09 June @ 09:25 AM EST

When Fox Soccer Channel became Nielson rated last October the hope at least on my end was that it provides evidence that more people were interested in Major League Soccer as spectator sport than the English Premier League. I even floated my theories two years ago in a running debate with Christopher Harris of EPL Talk.

As many of you know, we have a TON of stuff going on around next Thursday's game against the Red Bulls.
