FIFA doesn't easily forgive or forget when it comes to World Cup seedings.
If the U.S. goes to South Africa next year, hanging over its head will be losses to Germany, Iran and Yugoslavia (1998) and to the Czech Republic and Ghana (2006). The U-20 World Cup in Egypt officially kicked off on Thursday with the hosts convincingly defeating Trinidad and Tobago.

A first half 1-1 draw turned into a route as Egypt midfielder Hassan Hussam Arafat Abdalla's brace led the way to a 4-1 victory over the Soca Warriors in front of the 80,000-plus in attendance.

Good news for soccer fans as Cox Cable has picked up ESPN360 just in time for folks to be able to watch the FIFA U20 World Cup. Service starts for viewers (including me) on September 30th.

First, ESPN grabbed the rights to some La Liga games. Good move for ESPN Deportes and ESPN360, with over 20 games also getting on the big boy networks. Then, the four letter drops an unexpected preview of the Gold Cup final, which they weren't even televising.

What’s Happening With Setanta US?

A number of Bundesliga games for the 2009-2010 season will be shown on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN360, according to The New York Times.

Under a similar deal that ESPN negotiated with GolTV, where GolTV sublicensed some of its La Liga games for the 2009-2010 season, GolTV will sublicense a number of Bundesliga games to ESPN.

The same day that ESPN announced they have purchased UK TV rights from Setanta Sports in the English Premier League, they have also made an agreement with GolTV to air the Spanish Primer Division (La Liga) in the United States. English Premier League: ESPN buys TV rights for upcoming seasons

ESPN has announced they've purchased the television rights in the United States for the English Premier League. Setanta Sports had owned but has had serious financial troubles and lost the rights. The other broadcaster that has rights in the United States is the Fox Soccer Channel. It is not known yet if ESPN will show these games on their networks in the US, through a service like ESPN360, or make it a subscription service like Setanta.
