Here's a look today at Sporting's appearances and minutes against the newest club in the league, Montreal. Obviously not many changes here because the teams have only played 3 times.
1. Jimmy Nielsen - 3 Chance Myers - 3 Matt Besler - 3 Paulo Nagamura - 3 Graham Zusi - 3 Kei Kamara - 3 CJ Sapong - 3 8.
Wigan Athletic today officially announced the signing of Sporting KC midfielder Roger Espinoza. The move that had been rumored since the summer, and really picked up steam after the season ended is official and Espinoza's time in Kansas City is over.
Espinoza flew to the greater Manchester area yesterday after securing a visa for the UK in New York.
Winning isn't always pretty, good teams find a way to take care of business. Yesterday at
Livestrong Sporting Park, KC didn't have the greatest game, but were able to over come that and
beat Toronto FC 2-1. The blue print for shutting down KC almost played out to perfection for TFC,
without Torsten Frings and Eric Hassli in the lineup, TFC was able to hold their own, but in the
end KC had just too much possession and too many chances and finally found the net.
With 8 games left in the season, Sporting KC is currently 3 points out of the race for the
Supporters' Shield. Behind San Jose, KC doesn't have many games that you can immediately look at
and say "oh yeah that should be a win," but tomorrow night at Livestrong Sporting Park, KC has one
of those games.
Roger Espinoza's Olympic performance for Honduras is still lingering in the front offices of
clubs in England, and it appears as if one is eager to pry him away from Sporting Kansas City prior
to the close of the European summer transfer window.
According to reports from England, Premier League side Wigan Athletic is looking to make a move
for Espinoza, who is in the final year of his contract with Sporting KC and MLS.
If you're like me, your sleep pattern over the last week has been flushed straight down the toilet. You're twisting. You're turning. You're having bad dreams -- nightmares in fact.
Here's a look at the appearances and minutes played against the Houston Dynamo. This list will have a lot more current players on it due to Houston's recent move to the East.
First, league appearances.
1. Michael Harrington - 11 2. Davy Arnaud - 10 Jack Jewsbury - 10 4.
Honduras head coach Luis Suarez has released the roster that will take on the U.S. Men's National Team in their World Cup qualifier on Feb. 6, and it is loaded.
Roger Espinoza, Victor Bernardez and Maynor Figueroa headline Honduras' 23-man roster for their battle with the U.S. at San Pedro Sula next Wednesday.
Roger Espinoza is leaving Kansas City, this has been clear for a few months now, but today things basically confirm it 100% that Espinoza would be leaving. Today in the UK an FA Panel approved Espinoza's work permit request, the final stepping stone for his move to the UK. Wigan Athletic posted on their website today that Espinoza will join the club once is contract with Sporting expires.
You can now add Roger Espinoza to the list of Major League Soccer alumni to make moves to top European leagues.
The Honduran national team midfielder and former Sporting Kansas City standout was granted his UK work permit on Monday, clearing the way for his free transfer to English Premier League side Wigan Athletic.
Word earlier tonight from Grant Wahl on Twitter is that Roger Espinoza is one step closer to leaving Kansas City for England and Wigan Athletic. Wahl posted that Espinoza is on his way to England for a physical with the Greater Manchester club. The news is confirmed by his agent in this article from Honduran sports site, Diez.
Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza has long been linked to a move to English Premier League side Wigan since turning heads at the Olympics, but now it appears he is ready to seal the deal and head over on a free transfer.
The offseason news just keeps getting better for Sporting KC fans. First the assumption that Roger Espinoza is going to be leaving Kansas City in the January window, potentially to the EPL and Wigan Athletic. Now we hear today that Matt Besler has been contacted by European clubs in an interview on Sports Radio 810.
Sporting KC midfielder Roger Espinoza has been a transfer target of multiple teams after his stellar performance in the Olympics this summer. There was no move made during the summer window although the rumors were rampant. With Espinoza out of contract after this season though he becomes a free agent.
A big blow today for Sporting KC in their run in towards the end of the season, but an even bigger blow to Honduras, Sporting KC midfielder Roger Espinoza is set to miss the next two to four weeks recovering from a right ankle sprain suffered in stoppage time of KC's 1-1 draw with Columbus yesterday.
That sound you hear is Sporting Kansas City fans breathing a collective sigh of relief.
Roger Espinoza had an MRI and X-rays taken on Monday morningand has been ruled out two to four weeks with a right anterior medial ankle sprain. Espinoza sustainted the knock in the second half of Sporting KC's 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew on Sunday.
We're closing in on the next international break, coming up in the middle of October and headlined for KC fans by the US World Cup qualifier against Guatemala at Livestrong Sporting Park. And while that sold out game will be absolutely huge when it comes to the USA's qualifying for the hex, some Sporting players will be busy during that stretch as well.
Roger Espinoza to Wigan was a big rumor in the final few days of the summer transfer window, with Espinoza being linked to join his countryman, Maynor Figueroa at the EPL club. The window though closed without a deal. News out of the UK today though is that Wigan boss, Roberto Martinez, is still trying to sign the midfielder after this season.
Three of Sporting Kansas City's four players on international duty had games scheduled last night,
but only one of those 3 saw the field. Roger Espinoza's Honduras teammates were in Cuba for a
mid-day kick off in their World Cup qualifier. Espinoza had to sit out the game due to his red card
against Brazil in the Olympics.
The English transfer window has now closed, and Roger Espinoza is still a Sporting KC player. With
interest from a number of clubs, including Wigan, there'd been speculation since the Olympics that
Espinoza would make the move across the Atlantic to a European league some time during the summer
transfer window.
We're now less than 48 hours away from the end of the European transfer window for the vast
majority of clubs (some countries have through 9/1), which means that Sporting KC fans only have to
wait with bated breath a little while longer to see if Roger Espinoza will finish the season with
Sporting KC or not.
The first I saw of this rumor was reading The Daily Wiz, which linked to an article from The Mirror
in the UK. Needless to say I took it with a large grain of salt, even though it does make some
sense. Wigan has in the past brought in other Hondurans, like Wilson Palacios and currently has
Maynor Figueroa in their squad as well.
El portero Miguel Frausto mandó el partido a penaltis en el 90' al anotar en tiro de esquina, por lo que se erigió como la figura del partido al acertar también el último cobro de la tanda desde los once pasos.

I don't have anything to say about soccer right now that I haven't already ranted about in the comments and the match thread, so without further ado, here's today's news.
Slide Rule Pass - Monkey Jesus This analysis of last night's match was posted in the comments but deserves a re-posting in case anyone missed it.

Well, the day is here. An entire summer's worth of internet rumors and manager tongue slips
dissected 5000 different ways comes to an end today.
August 31st is the last day for clubs in most leagues to be able to transfer players from other
countries into their squad. MLS is slightly different as clubs can only bring in international
players tied to other clubs from June 27 to July 27.
The Roger Espinoza news continues today as Honduras announced their roster for the upcoming
World Cup qualifiers on September 7th and 11th, both against Cuba. Even though he's suspended for
their first game on the 7th due to his red card in the Olympics again Brazil, Espinoza has been
named to the roster.
There's nothing quite like the chemistry of two strikers making music together by playing off of
each other's strengths or setting each other up. Sometimes, one guy is the emotional header and the
other is the acrobatic juggler or one guy is the stronger dribbler while the other has a quick
boot.
In Soccer, a strong scoring duo makes all the difference for fans and for a winning record.
