sometimes the matches on the DIRECTV La Liga specific channels may not go to match coverage until
right before kickoff.

strong>Yes I know, the headline is as subtle as a brick but it may as well be the Raul, because
the latest rumour is that we're after Espanyol hotshot Raul Tamudo, capped by his country, all-time
top goalscorer for his club and generally the sort of fella that a) we've been told we'll not be

Albert Rieira
I had high hopes for Albert Riera when he first arrived from Espanyol but other than a couple of
decent games and a decent finish here and there I really have been consistently wanting more from
the winger.

This Saturday and Sunday Barca, Real Madrid, and Valencia all have matches against undermatched
opponents. The thing is: I'm not expecting blowouts. No, I'm thinking we have some real
issues on our hands.
Barca gets Osasuna, Real Madrid gets Getafe, and Valencia gets Malaga. I know these seem like
easy wins but I'm not sure of anything anymore.

Atletico Madrid has struggled for positive results all this season. Well they will be kicking
themselves once again as they had a match in perfect position against Mallorca in extra time. The
squad achieved the draw though with a goal in the remaining minutes from Mallorca 1-1. Sevilla
proved once again to be an outstanding defensive minded squad against Espanyol.

Halloween will arrive in a few days, but for Atlético Madrid, this season has been a complete
nightmare from the beginning. Los rojiblancos hit their low point with a dull thud on
Saturday when they could not fend off a nine-man Mallorca team and settled for a 1-1 draw at the
Vicente Calderón.

Sporting Gijon-Real Madrid
Sporting has been one of the hottest clubs of late with consecutive wins over Athletic Bilbao
and Mallorca. Miguel de las Cuevas has scored four goals in the last two games, so he looks to
continue his streak against one of Spain's toughest defenses in Madrid.

Last week I went on and on about how Sevilla is the most overlooked club in all of La Liga.
They have beaten among the best (Real Madrid) and going into last weekend they were among the
hottest clubs in all of the world. Well you can say that I gave Sevilla the dreaded curse as
well. The club's winning ways would come to an end last weekend with a loss to Deportivo La
Coruna.

An impressive 1-0 win by Deportivo La Coruña over Sevilla on Saturday raises Depor to a tie of
third place with Sevilla at fifteen points, four points behind league leaders FC Barcelona.
Los blanquiazules have won five of their first seven matches this season, and their only
two losses came at the hands of Espanyol 2-3 and Real Madrid 2-3.

The Yank is off to a fairly mediocre start this La Liga season in weekly picks and currently
sits at 24-14 on the year. Of course Real Madrid losing a few weeks back likely gave many
critics at least one loss and the Yank only missed two games completely and got five correct. So
things are beginning to look up this La Liga season.

There is a glint in Fabio Aurelio's eye as he recalls the game that could have finished a reign but
ended up sparking a dream.
While Istanbul and Cardiff are the places that Liverpudlians will forever associate with stirring
comebacks masterminded by Rafa Benitez, Aurelio's own memory of winning against the odds came in a
small corner of Barcelona.

In terms of the football played on the pitch, the Sevilla Real Madrid clash qualified as the
best match of the young La Liga season. Honorable mentions to Athletic Bilbao's 3-2 victory over
Villarreal CF in Round 3 and the pulsating 2-2 draw between Valencia and Atlético Madrid last
Saturday night, but this fixture contained everything that a writer and a supporter wanted: back
stories prior to the game, vigorous and attacking football, tensions boiling over the players at
hand, and incredible stops by both goalkeepers.

After the first full month of La Liga football the Yank is a mediocre 19-12 with his weekly
picks. Thanks to Real Madrid and Barcelona I am over the .500 percent curve, but unfortunately
Barca does not play this weekend and Real Madrid has the toughest match of the week against
Sevilla. So in other words the picks just got a lot harder.

It's gonna be a showdown this weekend in Spain as arguably the best La Liga defense plays

them. Bilbao has defeated two mediocre clubs in Espanyol and Xerez, but they did beat Villareal

A moment of brilliance from Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka's first competitive goal for his new club

of the starting eleven would have to be eligible for the national team of their club's country.
