Cardiff City, the team from the Welsh capital, are heading to the Carling Cup final. The team
defeated Crystal Palace in the first completed Carling Cup semi final. They will now play the
winner of the Liverpool vs Manchester City tie which will be completed on Wednesday evening at
Anfield.
Chesea used to make an easy dinner out of trips to places like Norwich. They would travel,
feast, fill themselves up and return to London with 3 points in the bag. What was once an easy task
has now become a stressful endeavour. Chelsea travel to grounds like Carrow Road hoping for 3
points rather than expecting them.
It appears likely that Didier Drogba is set to move to Shanghai Shenua. It is not quite clear
whether the move is scheduled to take place during the January transfer window or in the summer of
2012 but it has become quite clear that Didier Drogba is set to move away from Stamford Bridge and
Chelsea.
The Manchester United goalkeeper seems set to undergo eye surgery in the summer, just after the
end of the English Premiership campaign and just before Spain's Olympic football participation
begins.
The goalkeeper is unlikely to be called up by Spain for the 2012 UEFA European
Championships.
Luka Modric, perhaps the stand out performer of this English Premier League season so far, has
said he might leave Tottenham during the January transfer window, although he is more likely to
reconsider his position at the end of the campaign. The speculation began when Luka Modric's agent
suggested that his client might leave Tottenham in January because "in football anything is
possible".
Arsene Wenger has recently attested to Thierry Henry's greatness. Arsene Wenger has suggested
the old hero could even be a top player right now, even at 34 years of age, in the English
Premiership. Now it has emerged that Per Mertesacker, the gigantic German defender, has said pretty
much the same.
It's past Christmas and we are two rounds of matches away from being at the halfway point of the
season. At the beginning of January in 2011, during the previous campaign, Chelsea were outside the
top 4 they were in the middle of a disastrous spell under Carlo Ancelotti whilst Manchester United
were top and comfortably clear of Manchester City in second.
It appears that two transfers are almost completed even before the January transfer window opens
in the English Premiership. We already know that Everton are signing Landon Donovan for a couple of
months and know it seems that Thierry Henry is moving to Arsenal, temporarily, and Gary Cahill is
set to move from Bolton to Chelsea for a fee between £7 and £8 million.
USA international striker Juan Agudelo was left in awe after his trial experience with
Liverpool.
The 19-year-old New York Red Bulls striker already has 15-caps to his name for Jürgen Klinsmann's
national team, but got his first taste of European football during brief spells with Stuttgart and
the Reds in recent weeks.
Manchester City escaped from Anfield with a point. The sky blues had taken the lead in the first
half, thanks to Vincent Kompany's shoulder. Appreciated fortune. Moments later Liverpool responded
in kind, thanks to an enormous deflection off of Joleon Lescott from Charlie Adam's wayward
shot.
Several Italian coaches have successfully worked outside Italy in the last few years including
former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti who succeeded in achieving a historic
double in his first season in charge in London by leading the Blues to the English Premiership
title and the FA Cup trophy.
We live in strange times. On the one hand, being poor sucks. Every Bulgarian champion needs a
helping hand and a TV payout from UEFA helps, no matter how small. On the other hand, nobody likes
Kool-Aid with too much water. Dilution concerns us. Tang leaves a bitter and putrid taste in the
mouth.
To be shocked at the crass commercialism in today's money-soaked English Premiership is to be
slightly naive. To develop a toothache upon hearing about how today's top flight clubs sell their
souls to fund their businesses or discover sneakier means of getting their hands deeper into your
wallets, however, is perfectly normal.
Typically the quality of a pie, whether savoury and sweet, tends to be judged first on the
crust. After all, this is the first thing you see before considering purchasing a pie, the contents
of which might never be fully known until you take that first bite. A crust appearing soggy,
doughy, and rather bland usually sees the pie being passed over in lieu of the pie with a
beautiful, flaky crust that suggests an artisan's hand has touched what will surely be a delectable
edible.
So this is what it means to get relegated from a soccer channel to a nationally televised
channel along with their soon to be re-named sports network? So this is how it feels when one of
the three national broadcasters in the United States decides to promote our country's first
division league during an NFL pre-season game?
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been writing about league characteristics, including average
goals per match and league balance. As we've been digging a little more into the data, Benjamin
Leinwand and I have noticed a slightly curious pattern: goals per match seem to be correlated with
the number of matches played in a season.
A team not from England in the English Premier League? Whats that I hear you say?
For those readers from around the world who may not be versed in UK geography, there will be a
very special team playing in the English Premiership next season. A team that isn't actually from
England.
This may surprise a few people but Swansea City is a team from Wales, a country famed for a
sport where people throw around a ball shaped like an egg, famed for actors Catherine Zeta Jones
and Anthony Hopkins, Tom Jones, cockles and laverbread and now finally, a Premiership football
side.
When Mick Jagger and Keith Richards kicked around the lyrics and arrangement for "You Can't
Always Get What You Want," neither likely found their inspiration from Scotsmen knocking a ball
about. The chorus, however, summarizes somewhat the spot where some clubs from the SPL find
themselves as the 2011/12 season approaches and stadium personnel would not be faulted for
including the song during opening warm-ups.
European Goalkeeping Trends by the numbers - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
101 goalkeepers made over ten starts in Europe's four major leagues during season 2010-12.
Another fifty-six made at least one start in either the English Premiership, La Liga, the
Bundesliga or Serie A. So after thirty eight games (thirty-four in Germany), which goalkeeper is
best?
Welcome to
The Weekly Five. Each week I address a topic by presenting a list of five
examples that support, oppose or simply relate to the subject.
There is no doubt that the English Premiership, one of the top (if not
the) best soccer
leagues in the world, is better than Major League Soccer.
The Baggies are boing-boinging over to the States.North American soccer fans are truly being spoilt this summer - top teams from Mexico, Spain,
Netherlands and England are making their way to the States and Canada during July. The English
Premiership leads the way as to the number of teams taking the trip, and that total has today
increased to six.
Robin, no point pleading in front of a deaf douche.
I hear Alex Ferguson has recalled Howard Webb to his squad for the game against Chelsea on
Sunday! In all seriousness though, the whole world knows how referees are biased towards the elite
clubs in the world. You can't see why someone in charge of FIFA or UEFA has not done anything about
it.

Now that's what you call a rock solid team!
If there's one club with all the luck in the world, its Manchester United. If there's one club
with all the refs, etc (ie FA, Uefa) on its side, its Manchester United. If there's one club all

Verminator taming Shrek like no other
Finally there is some good news around Arsenal Football Club, Thomas Vermaelen will return to
action after more than seven months on the sidelines when he starts for the Reserves against
Manchester United on Thursday. The Belgian center back hasn't played since picking up an Achilles
injury while on international duty in September and subsequently having surgery to correct a tendon
problem.

Arsenal, Boca Juniors, New York Red Bulls and Paris Saint-Germain will compete in Emirates Cup
2011MLS UK reported two weeks ago that New York Red Bulls had been invited to play in the Emirates Cup.
Today rumour became confirmation, and Hans Backe's side will indeed be travelling to London this
summer.

Gary Speed manages a Wales side that take on England at the weekend, hoping to upset their
British rivals and get a morale boosting win. Speed is new to international management, but he is
far from new to British football. The Welsh midfielder has played 535 games at top flight level,
and has played more games in the EPL than any other outfield player.
We love you Robin.. We really do!
And then there were two. It looks like Arsenal and Manchester United will fight it out for the
Premier League crown after a pivotal day in the title race.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side beat third-place Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime to pour pressure
on Arsène Wenger's outfit before they faced Wolves at Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal vs Wolves
Arsenal return to action after the international matches in midweek with the visit of
Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Emirates, a match that Gunners fans are expecting to win.
Johan Djourou has been passed fit and will be available against for the match on Saturday.
The pacesetters in the major European leagues all had setbacks last weekend: in Serie A, Milan's
lead was cut to three points after they drew at Genoa and Napoli beat Cesena. Inter are now third

Nerazzuri overtook Lazio, who could only manage a [.

A crazy crazy night!
It was the best of games; it was the worst of games.
For 45 minutes on Saturday, Arsenal were unplayable. They led within seconds and looked out of
sight after ten minutes thanks to a three-goal salvo from Theo Walcott, Johan Djourou and Robin van
Persie.
