Hull City v Chelsea
by eldoronaldo

Chelsea springs a leak in its hull. The smaller clubs have made this year's title race a fascinating one to watch. So much so that Arsenal blown out of the water against Man Utd this weekend still has a pulse.

Wenger should be running tape on Stephen Hunt's battling qualities as Notts County beat Wigan in the FA Cup today to enter the 5th round as preparation for the Gunners trip to Stamford Bridge.

Will Juventus get Rafa?

Soccerblog 03 February @ 01:05 AM EDT

From the Independent (via Goal.com):

The broadsheet claims that the Turin side's president Jean-Claude Blanc is keen to reach an agreement and has: "...already fixed everything with [Rafael] Benitez and has in his drawer a detailed agreement of his terms and length of contract."

Note the contradiction.

Arsenal rises to its old failings

Soccerblog 01 February @ 03:14 AM EDT

The best thing about Arsenal's brutal annihilation at the hands of Man Utd was that it came very quickly. By the end of the match one had gone through the five stages of grief. In fact, I emerged looking forward to the Chelsea match next weekend with a sense of acceptance. At this point a 7-0 thrashing looks pretty acceptable.

English Premier League gets snowed out...

Soccerblog 08 January @ 08:40 AM EDT

A combination of snow and sub-zero temperatures have produced mayhem in the EPL sporting calendar ...
Apart from the obvious dangers of playing on slippery frozen surfaces the ball also tends to pick up a bit of snow and get kind of a bit too large to play with as you can see.
Saturday's game between Fulham and Portsmouth is off, while Liverpool have asked for Sunday's match with Tottenham to be postponed.

Mancini starts on a winning note

Soccerblog 27 December @ 04:12 AM EDT

Roberto Mancini began his stint as manager of Manchester City with a 2 - 0 win over Stoke City. The fact that Robinho started instead of Craig Bellamy may be an indication of the dressing room unrest that he has to live with in view of the unceremonious sacking of his predecessor Hughes.Still a winning start is a winning start so Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan won't be thinking of sacking him just yet.

The last days of Graeme Souness

Soccerblog 12 December @ 02:06 AM EDT

Julian Dicks: The end of the "Liverpool culture."

Graeme Souness has been on Rafa Benitez's back fearing a "meltdown" of his former club.

Sounds very much like a job audition. In recent days, it has been a tag team with Juergen Klinsmann joining the chorus of doomsayers.

Here is Ian Rush on the last days of Graeme Souness as Liverpool's manager:

"The Bristol City match was a disaster.

The "fit and proper person" test failed in Pompey's case

What 'fit and proper person' test?

Pompey's revolving door ownership continues. The theme is the same, they are all bankrupt. Meanwhile, the club is getting indebted to a Hong Kong based businessman called Balram Chainrai who is footing the player's wages and he is not even part of the ownership.

Rafa: Arsenal game begins "a new season"

Wenger might have to contend with the return of Fernando Torres and the possible first full introduction of Alberto Aquilani, in Arsenal's fixture against 'Pool this weekend.

Rafa's description of " a new season" for the Arsenal match is probably to get players disconcerted by their CL campaign ending on a sour note, to focus on the important task of challenging for the Premiership's top four spots.
