It seems that a lot of people are not talking about football these days. Whether it be racism, gayism (ok not sure if that's an actual word) or other outrageous incidents not even related to the beautiful game. Here are a few things which I think should be brought back/or removed to help bring the English game back to the glory days of the 90s.

Argentine fútbol has been suffering. The country's national team failed to live up to the hype in Copa America this past summer, while Brazil's emergence as an economic power has spurred the Brasileiro to new financial and competitive heights.

It only seems like yesterday since that fateful day back in June of last year when England's World Cup journey came to a shuddering halt against a young, fast-paced, powerful German team that showed English fans everything that our team wasn't. Well, here we are only 16 months or so later, with the first stages of Euro2012 already under our belt following the draw in Poland for the Group matches, and frankly, nothing much has changed.

During the build up to England's friendly meeting with World Cup and Euro Champions Spain on Saturday, references were being made to how many goals Spain would score and how the English fans would see how badly the current National team compares with the best in the world, and I have to admit, that I was one of those doubters.

We rightly get angry about foreign fans racially abusing black players, but are English fans really any better?

The next time the English national team are in action and players are subjected to racist chants, don't feel indignant yet superior. Don't be consumed by anger and attack the opposing country's fans as being backward.

The signing of Ruiz gives us an extraoardinary array of attacking talent. It means we can field a combination of Zamora, Duff, Dempsey, Dembele and Ruiz, which you'd hope would suffice for our needs. They can't all play, but even if we see three or four of them, their attacking instincts need to be covered by someone to defend.

Blackpool's one-season jaunt in the Premiership, perhaps likely always to be record-setting, has come to a close. The Tangerines did set records, but not the ones that many predicted at the start of their top flight campaign. Blackpool boasted the smallest wage bill seen in the EPL for several years as well, capping their players' deals at a (comparatively meagre) ₤10,000 per week.

According to news reports on Irish radio this morning the FAI have secured a glamour friendly game against England in February 2012. It was reported last December that the FAI were in talks with the English Football Association to secure a friendly international between Ireland and England at the Aviva Stadium in June next year, however due to fixture congestion in June the game is being planned for late February.

I'll admit it; I've been a closet fan of David Beckham for more than 15 years. I even vaguely recall him as a fresh-faced lad out on loan at Preston North End (of the Championship), in which he scored 2 goals from his 5 appearances. (link to video) The goal at Wimbledon on the first day of the 1996-1997 season, in which he scored from just inside his own half, is remembered by so many English fans that it has become an iconic image of not just Beckham himself, but the English game since the advent of the Premier League.
