The last week or so has said a lot about England, the state of the country, its sporting culture
and the team that is supposed to represent it on the stage of international football. Apathy levels
with the national team, however, are growing to the point at which it may become pertinent to ask
the question of what the England national football team is actually for.

Who would want to be the England manager? It seems far more trouble than it's worth. The Three
Lions' new caretaker boss, Stuart Pearce, is now feeling the heat from the nation's press, after
his brother's far-right views were once again highlighted by the newspapers.

Fabio Capello resigns as England manager but who will replace him? - The 90th Minute Soccer
Blog
England currently has no manager as Fabio Capello recently resigned. It was pretty clear Capello
would be out after the upcoming Euro 2012 and his resignation was a surprise. The problem between
Capello and the English Football Association was over John Terry.
The football world already has it all planned out: fans, players, ex-players, pundits and
journalists alike all want Harry Redknapp to replace Fabio Capello as England manager, following
the Italian's resignation yesterday evening.
Some were already looking beyond Euro 2012 Capello had already planned to retire after this
summer's tournament to the Redknapp era, convinced he would be the man for the job at some
point.
English football in 'shambles' shocker. With a major tournament around the corner, the FA intervene
and strip John Terry of the England captain without consulting the manager. The manager resigns.
England have no captain, no manager and naff all chance of winning Euro 2012.
In many ways, I don't blame Fabio Capello for leaving.

You turn you're back for one second and what happens? Just three months and three friendly games
before Euro 2012 gets under way in June, Fabio Capello resigned as England manager last night
after spending the afternoon bickering with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex
Horne at Wembley over his comments made to the Italian media vis-a-vis the FA's premature decision
to strip John Terry of the national captaincy.
I wrote yesterday that Fabio Capello And FA were set for a fireworks meeting today with neither
site apparently ready to concede ground over John Terry.
Well after meeting today, it became apparent that the two sides could no longer work together
and the FA has announced that Fabio Capello has stepped down as England manager.

Fabio Capello will not lead England to this summer's European Championship after resigning from his
post as manager. The Italian's resignation comes following crunch talks with the FA over his
outspoken criticism of the decision to strip John Terry of the England captaincy before his trial
for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.
The 2012 European Championship commences exactly four months from today, and England is looking
for a new manager.
In a monumental development, Fabio Capello resigned from the helm of the English national team
on Wednedsay. Capello had been public in his defense of John Terry after the FA stripped the
Chelsea centerback of his international captaincy amid his involvement in a racial abuse
scandal.
My friends and I often indulge in extended debate on the club vs. country issue and how so far,
it's ‘OK' to support England. We eschew the jingoism, the hooliganism, the sheer repugnance of
many of those called on to sport the jersey, the overreaction to defeat and over-anticipation of
victory, the arrogance and the aggression, but still wish for a team we can support.
This certainly isn't going to go down that well with the FA.
England manager Fabio Capello laid out his thoughts on John Terry and the FA's decision to strip
him of the England captaincy to Italian broadcaster Rai 1 today. To say he's not pleased
with what has transpired would be a gross understatement.
For the second time, Chelsea's John Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy. The
English Football Association confirmed that Terry was informed of the decision by FA chairman David
Bernstein in a phone call Friday morning.
Terry is due to stand trial in July over racial abuse allegations after an incident with QPR's
Anton Ferdinand and there has been mounting pressure within England to remove Terry as England's
captain ahead of this summer's Euro 2012 competition
The FA released a statement on their web site which read:
Following the decision to adjourn the court case against John Terry to July, The Football
Association confirm he will not captain the England team until the allegations against him are
resolved.

In that special, unique way that only they can, the FA managed to set a dozen hungry cats
amongst the pigeons of the John Terry case this morning. Their announcement, that Terry had been
stripped of the England captaincy for this summer's European Championships but that he would still
be available for selection by Fabio Capello sends out a message so mixed that it would require an
FA-branded centrifuge to be able to properly decipher.

As Egypt reels from the tragic deaths in Port Said, national team coach Bob Bradley is taking a
role in the rebuilding.
The former U.S. manager joined in a non-violent protest march on Thursday as public anger
against the interior ministry grows.
As you all know by now, John Terry has this morning been stripped of the England Captaincy once
again. The "Official statement" from the FA reads as follows:
"Following the decision to adjourn the court case against John Terry to July, The
Football Association confirm he will not captain the England team until the allegations against him

Young midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong is one of the Premier League's more charismatic chaps, with
his all-action and passionate performances on the pitch endearing him to Wolves' fans ever since he
made his loan move from Arsenal.
Chelsea and England captain John Terry's problems are not about to end any time soon after
fellow players and anti-racist campaigners called on Fabio Capello to exclude him from his squad
for the European championships.
These sentiments come after Wednesday's landmark ruling where the FA announced that Terry would
only face trial for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand until after the tournament.
Is it allowable under FA rules for someone to manage the England team from Ford Open Prison?
The HMR&C campaign against different aspects of football fraud, tax avoidance, money laundering
and, soon, illegal insider betting activity is parallelling along on numerous fronts - Harry
Redknapp and Milan Mandaric, Rangers FC, Portsmouth FC, and other potential routes of investigation
still to be unearthed via Quest and the News of the World scandals etc etc.
Arsene Wenger is being linked with a move to take Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby to Arsenal.
And there are even some suggestions that a deal has already been done for the German-born
21-year-old to join the Gunners in the summer. His contract in Germany ends next year.
A source with close ties to Arsenal has told Arsenalinsider that the transfer has already been
agreed for the midfielder, whose Scouse father is a former Brit soldier based in Germany.
When you think back to Andy Carroll shockingly leaving Newcastle last January 31st -
Newcastle have made some significant progress. Alan Pardew great progress in last last 12 months
Andy hasn't done too well at Liverpool in his first year there, but when he left Newcastle he had
11 league goals and looked to be the new face of the England team.
Manchester City slumped to their second home defeat in four days as Steven Gerrard's early penalty
moved Liverpool to within 90 minutes of their first Wembley appearance since 1996.
Lacking key men, including skipper Vincent Kompany who sat forlornly in the stands as he began a
four-match ban, and drained by the energy exerted at having to play for 78 minutes with 10 men
against Manchester United at the weekend, City were a shadow of their usual selves.
Five years ago the New England Revolution won their first major title: the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S.
Open Cup. Since then, the team's participation in the 98-year-old tournament has been less than
memorable.
The Revs fell in the semifinals in 2008, lost in the third round in 2009 and failed to qualify
for the competition the past two seasons.
"[Rio Ferdinand's] performance was nothing short of magnificent," announced Alan Hansen on Match
of the Day 2 yesterday, before wheeling out selected clips for his analysis on what
appeared to be Ferdinand's return to form (at one point, he put down a random pass to Wayne Rooney
as good "anticipation" ).

Wayne Rooney scored his first league goal since September as Manchester United crushed Wolves
4-1 on Saturday. But with all the analysis and comments that followed an eventful week for Rooney,
one quote stood out.
As well as stating that ‘Wayne was brilliant', United defender Phil Jones went on to say,
‘but he still has an influence on the team even when he is not scoring.

Luis Suárez and Patrice Evra racism case presents problem for FA | Daniel

It will be tricky for the authorities to work through the semantics of what the Liverpool
striker is alleged to have said What we don't know for certain is the word Luis Suárez used.
Phil Jones, Micah Richards, Kyle Walker... who should be right back in the England
team?
With a host of top right backs now playing in the Premier League, we've asked a number of former
players to select their current favourites.

It has been estimated that Manchester United have 333 million supporters in over 200 countries,
providing an astonishing cumulative audience of 4.2 billion television viewers watching the team in
2010-11. It would be lovely to think we're all one big happy family but it's probably no
exaggeration to say that millions of those very fans have no idea that the name they routinely use
for their favourite club irritates the hell out of untold thousands of others.
Liverpool midfield legend Dietmar Hamann is a huge fan of summer signing Jordan Henderson, and his
enthusiasm for the player is so great that he has total belief that the youngster will make it into
the full England squad for Euro 2012.
Henderson has often been played out of position on the right this season but Hamann is confident
it's only temporary
"I think he [Henderson] is one of the brightest English prospects, and Long-term, he probably will
be a central midfielder for Liverpool".
It was a process that took around six years from top to tail in total, and it came in three very
distinct phases. I had been a supporter of the England national team, reasoning that, with no
foreign blood in the family tree and a knowledge that we weren't all as bad as we were painted, I
had to have someone to follow for international tournaments.

LOS ANGELES -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter sent shockwaves through the soccer world with his
comments about the lack of racism as a whole in soccer and to deal with on-field incidents with a
mere handshake, and Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham didn't hold back when given the
chance to address Blatter's remarks to assembled media on Thursday.
