The New England Revolution and Major League Soccer are suing Jose "Pepe" Moreno for breach of
contract according to a tweet from WUNR's "Deportes y Mas" host Marino Velasquez. Velasquez added
Sunday that the team was taking the case to FIFA.
New England Soccer Today has contacted the Revolution for comment and is awaiting a
response.
Amid the controversy surrounding the Jose Moreno fiasco, an interesting piece of news came to
light on Thursday. After he was waived - rather surprisingly - by DC United on February 3rd,
second-year forward Blake Brettschneider tweeted today that he would be joining the New England
Revolution for a trial on Sunday.
Former D.C. United striker Blake Brettschneider is the latest free agent hoping to earn a spot
on the New England Revolution for the 2012 season. Brettschneider is set to join the team on trial
next week the Revs confirmed to New England Soccer Today on Thursday afternoon.
Brettschneider, a 22-year-old who can also play in midfield, played in 15 league games,
including nine starts, for D.
It looks like Pepe Moreno may not be playing or practicing in a Revolution uniform anytime
soon.
Five days after New England announced that it had reached a loan agreement with Colombian side
Once Caldas to bring the 30-year-old striker to Gillette Stadium, a report surfaced on Tuesday
surfaced that the deal is off.
Sean Donahue issued a short announcement last night over at New England Soccer Today explaining
that New England Revolution officials have denied the reports he gathered from his source
concerning the way the Monsef Zerka contract situation was handled. Through the media relations
department, the team asserts that they made efforts to keep the Moroccan winger at the club.
On Thursday, the New England Revolution contacted New England Soccer Today to deny the
claim of the unnamed source contained in the "Zerka Not Returning" article published on Feb. 1.
In the aforementioned article, the source told New England Soccer Today that Revolution
head coach Jay Heaps and general manager Michael Burns "never had serious discussions to try to
bring [Monsef] Zerka back.
Our friends over at New England Soccer Today are once again flexing their muscles and showing
off their superior sources, and today's piece does not disappoint. Few people were probably
expecting Monsef Zerka to return this season, but most were operating under the assumption that the
front office was at least making some attempt to bring him back at a reduced salary.
Monsef Zerka may be the closest the New England Revolution has come to replacing the consistency
of Steve Ralston on the wings, but the Moroccan won't be returning to the team in 2012. New England
Soccer Today has learned the 30-year-old winger is not in the team's plans this season.
Monsef Zerka tallied two goals and an assist in seven games for the Revs in 2011.
On Sunday afternoon, Revolution Head Coach Jay Heaps, along with players Benny Feilhaber and
Chris Tierney, took part in a conference call with media members.
Along with the adjustment of a new head coach and different formation, a large question mark
entering this season is who will provide the offense in the final third of the pitch.
Yesterday, Sean Donahue of New England Soccer Today mentioned that the Revolution to
Wonderland may still be possible. Donahue, using Thor Jourgensen of Lynn, MA's The Daily
Item article on Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo's push for redevelopment of the old Wonderland
race-track, indicated that the Revs to Revere talks may be, at least superficially, back
underway.

With the 2012 MLS SuperDraft now in the books, the writers at New England Soccer Today handed
out their grades for the New England Revolution's 2012 draft performance. The Revs selected UCLA
midfielder Kelyn Rowe with the third overall pick and Creighton defender Tyler Polak with the 22nd
overall pick.
It's the biggest excuse to throw a mid-winter party in MLS: the SuperDraft. The annual
gathering of coaches, executives and personnel directors all huddled under one roof to select the
next crop of can't-miss collegiate prospects.
Sure, it may be a crapshoot. For every Steve Shak, there's a Nick Rimando.
Couple of pieces I found on the web.
First, our friends at New England Soccer Today reports that Milton Caraglio has signed with a
Chilean club, C. S. D. Rangers. Here is the link: http://nesoccertoday.com/?p=8201
This is a definite weakening of an area which was not a strong point last year.

New England soccer fans who can't get enough of the sport will have plenty of opportunities to
watch live soccer this summer, thanks in part to the arrival if three new USL Premier Development
League (PDL) teams in the region. Boston Victory Soccer Club, Connecticut FC Azul and Worcester
Hydra FC have all been announced over the past month as expansion clubs in the PDL.
We know that your life is busy.
So, we at New England Soccer Today decided to make your life simpler by creating a one-stop,
no-frills forum highlighting what went down in New England soccer during the past week and allow
you to catch up on anything you may have missed.
Without further ado, here's a snapshot of what happened during the past week:
Sunday, Dec.
Within the last week, the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (USL PDL) officially
announced the 2012 inaugural seasons of two new Massachusetts-based clubs, Worcester Hydra FC and
Boston Victory SC. The teams will both play in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference
joining the already established Western Mass Pioneers, Vermont Voltage, MPS Portland Phoenix, New
Hampshire Phantoms, and Ottowa Fury.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. During his 11-year playing career, Jay Heaps would do whatever it would take
to win. Whether it was racing into the final third and firing a sudden shot on frame or getting
in the face of an opponent, the Longmeadow, Mass. native never backed down from a challenge.
Recognizing the need to reinvigorate a squad that has stagnated in recent years, the Revolution
front office hired the fiery Heaps as their newest head coach on Tuesday, even though the former
defender had no MLS coaching experience on his resume.

The New England Revolution announced Tuesday morning that the club had named Jay Heaps as head
coach. Heaps, who played 11 years in Major League Soccer as a defender, including nine with the
Revs before retiring in 2009, becomes the sixth coach in Revolution history.

According to the Boston Globe, Massachusetts native and former New England Revolution defender
Jay Heaps is set to be named the Revolution's sixth head coach on Tuesday. Heaps, who in 2009
retired from playing after 11 years in Major League Soccer, his final nine with the Revs, will
replace Steve Nicol who was relieved of his coaching duties after New England missed out on the
postseason for the second consecutive season this year.

Two weeks ago I put up a piece making a case for Mike Burns, or at least for giving him some
slack in the coming months as he puts on the coaching search. I let everyone know that a lot of the
criticisms we level at him for the construction of the squad might actually be misplaced, and while
I can't say he's going to be great now that Stevie Nicol is gone, I also can't say there's a lot of
evidence to say he'll be catastrophic.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – It would be a skyscraper-sized understatement to say that the Revolution
fell short of expectations in 2011.
Between the five wins (franchise low), the 58 goals allowed (second worst in MLS), the
negative-20 goal differential (the second worst in MLS), a nine-game winless streak (tied a
franchise high), and.
