returning from a torn Achilles tendon? Phil Collin has more here.

Yes, eventually. The first week or so of the tournament was largely dull, with too many teams
adopting anti-football tactics, simply to avoid defeat in their opening contest. The tournament
picked up, as we desperately hoped, after the first round of group fixtures, with bad results for
France, England and Italy keeping many groups wide open until the death.

The quarter-finals in World Cup 2010 brought four unique types of drama. All four venues hosted
matches that each provided their own types of intrigue and excitement. It ranged from the collapse
of the favourites in Nelson Mandela Bay, to heartbreak in Soccer City for Africa's last hope of
glory.
Match Details Paraguay-Spain, Quarter Finals, Ellis Park Stadium, Saturday 03 July, 20.30 (local
time) Why Spain would win? Spain is a joy to watch as these guys play with a lot of aggressiveness,
ball possession, running game and looking to score in every possession. David Villa and Fernando
Torres would be watched closely as they are leading [.
Most people are tabbing this as the "potential blowout warning" of the quarter-finals. Paraguay
has been playing well, but Spain is ranked second in the world for a reason. Paraguay will have to
put together a more than stellar performance, coupled with a below par Spain performance, in order
to have a shot at the upset.
Argentina v Germany: @ 3pm (Green Point Stadium, Cape Town)
Unmistakably the tie of the round, whoever wins this battle between genuine World Cup heavyweights
could prove unstoppable. Can the Germans repeat their mauling of England or will Messi finally
shake off the lethargy which has dogged him thus far in South Africa?

I am going to be watching this game in Paraguay, so I can make a pass at Larissa. More on
Paraguay's #1 fan here.
We certinaly dodged a bit of a bullet in not having to face Brazil or Holland before the final,
but then again the Portugal game was a hard fought and deserved victory, and Paraguay has shown
they are no pushovers either, although like Ghana, they seem the weakest of the sides in the
quarter finals.

There will be a distinctly Latin flavour to the fourth and final of the World Cup quarter-final
match-ups, as reigning European champions Spain will battle it out with Paraguay in a clash loaded
with some fairly irrelevant historic significance (the conquistadors and all that),
although now is not the time or place to go into it.

The South African Football Association and the Premier Soccer League have announced a dramatic
increase in ticket prices for 2010-11 PSL season. The official explanation given was a need to
ensure the long-term sustainability of World Cup stadiums and provide funds for grassroots
football.

The international break always leaves us with some intriguing matches, and this weekend's
edition is no different.
Whether they're friendlies, European Championship qualifiers or African Cup of Nations
qualifiers, there's plenty of action to make up for the lack of European league matches.
Spain is still hoping to see the best of out-of-sorts striker Fernando Torres at the World Cup,
according to coach Vicente del Bosque.
Torres returned from knee surgery shortly before the tournament in South Africa and turned in
another lacklustre performance for the European champions in Saturday's 1-0 win over Paraguay
before being substituted shortly after halftime.
The second two quarterfinals take place today to determine a place in the semi finals. Argentina
