Serge Aurier was too much for the left side of Japan's defense to handle. Throughout the match, he was playing in dangerous crosses. They finally started connecting late in the second half.

Two of Aurier's crosses found their way to the heads of Wilfried Bony and Gervinho and into the goal as the Ivory Coast came from behind to defeat Japan 2-1 Saturday night.

With a 1-1 draw against Australia on Tuesday morning (late evening local time), Japan became the first nation other than Brazil to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

The result gives Japan 14 points from seven matches, good enough to clinch a place in the top two of their Asian Football Confederation Fourth Round qualifying group.
