In what promised to be the Eidur Gudjohnsen showcase, another player with European pedigree
entered the Seattle Sounders' roster picture. Romania international George Ogararu, 32, played
right fullback in the second half of Sunday's 4-2 Reserve League win over Chivas USA and apparently
could sign with the Sounders if all goes well.
This is something I am thinking of either doing from time to time or even on a weekly basis.
Just some random thoughts, questions going into the weekend for the state of MLS and US Soccer.
With a FIFA date upon us, a lot of MLS players are out with their respective countries, while some
MLS teams either have games (one league game and a few friendlies are on the menu this weekend) or
others are off completely hoping to get back in the swing of things for the playoff push.
It's an odd thing for a Seattle sports fan. Despite odd votes that indicate East Coast proximity
bias, or worse, among mainstream media in the United States and Canada, when it comes to players
and agents around the game the Seattle Sounders are a have. No they are not the New York Red Bulls
or the LA Galaxy (or Toronto FC if they were good), but they are a have.
Seattle, currently third in the Western Conference and poised for a stretch run towards the MLS
Cup, could be on the verge of adding another piece of the championship puzzle to their roster.
Eidur Gudjohnsen, formerly playing with European giants Barcelona and Chelsea, recently joined
the Sounders on a trial and began training with the club on Wednesday.
With Iceland international and longtime European club standout Eidur Gudjohnsen set to join the
Seattle Sounders in training this week, we figured it would be good to ask someone who was a little
more familiar with his skill set than us. Ryan Rosenblatt, the editor of the new United States
soccer blog Stars and Stripes FC, is very familiar with Gudjohnsen and had this to say about the
soon-to-be-34-year-old:
Eidur Gudjohnsen became a constant wanderer of late, but not because he couldn't find a
home.
A strange one, I have got to say. With Fernando and Carroll the shocks of the day. Blackpool did
well to get Beattie and Reid, and kept Charlie Adam away from the team that lead...
Steven Ireland (Newcastle), Eidur Gudjohnsen (Fulham), and Daniel Sturridge (Bolton) go out on
loan, they all took the car, no helicopter was flown.
Arguably one of the most surprising transfers of deadline day was Eidur Gudjohnsen's move to
Stoke City. The former Chelsea forward has agreed a season long loan at the Britannia Stadium from
Monaco, but will the Icelandic forward fit in with Stoke's notorious physical game?
That will be the worry for Potters boss Tony Pulis who has been reluctant to change his approach
to the challenge of taking Stoke to the next level.
Glasgow Rangers manager Walter Smith didn't really confirm or deny the loan link between his
club and Icelandic attacker Eidur Gudjohnsen. The former Chelsea and Barcelona player has failed to
settle with current team Monaco in France.
So much so that he spent the last half of last season on loan back in England with Tottenham
Hotspurs.
Who they have bought: Martin Petrov, Marcos Alonso, Robbie Blake
Who they need: Petrov on a free is the buy of the season but Bolton may need
one or two more to improve on last year. (Central midfielder, full back)
Who they should buy: Jamie O'Hara, Jack Wiltshire (on loan), Lee Naylor, Alan
Hutton, Tom Cleverley (Loan), Juan Roman Riquelme, Karim Matmour, Araujo Ilan, James Beattie
Chelsea
Who they have bought: Yossi Benayoun, Tomáš Kalas, Ramires (Apparently)
Who they need: A Deco replacement (Ramires), a Carvalho replacement, a Ballack
replacement.
It was interesting to look at the full list of released Premiership players yesterday to see if
there was any possibility of constructing an article on possible targets for Spurs next season. The
short answer was a resounding ‘no' – unless Tottenham wanted to replace one injury stricken
player with a few more.
Teal Bunbury just can't be stopped this offseason for KC. After the US national team call up, the
successful GA tour, and training with EPL side, Stoke City, Bunbury added to his accomplishments by
scoring today for the Potters in the reserve team's 3-1 loss to Wigan. Bunbury scored after getting
on the end of a through ball by one time Wizards designated player target, Eidur Gudjohnsen.
UPDATE: According to Stoke City's official website, Stoke City
confirmed that the club has held talks with Eidur Gudjohnsen after agreeing to a
loan deal with Monaco.
August 31st 2010: According to Jacob Murtagh at the Fulham Chronicle,
Fulham look like they will beat out Stoke City for Eidur
Gudjohnsen.

Clint Dempsey 10th and 11th goals this season helped his side Fulham beat Bolton 3-0 on
Wednesday night.
The goals helped Dempsey move past Brian McBride and Steed Malbranque, who both previously
scored 32 league goals for Fulham.
The American midfielder hooked a half-cleared corner into the net after 15 minutes and tapped in
Eidur Gudjohnsen's flick-on 3 minutes into the second half to take his tally since joining Fulham
in 2007 to 33 goals.

The list of Americans trying to cross the pond to play in England continues to grow.
And no, I'm not talking about Landon Donovan.
Teal Bunbury, a 20-year-old U.S. International who has been on trial at Stoke City in recent
weeks, is waiting to hear if the Potters will offer him a contract.
With the International Break behind us, and the scores of injuries suffered baying before us,
Week 4 of the Premier League could be a bit underwhelming. There aren't any matches that jump off
the page and scream classic this week. Though Manchester United's trip to Goodison
Park to face Everton could be a diamond in the rough.
At the end of Matchweek 3 in the Barclays Premier League, Theo Walcott was assuming the best
form of his young career, Jermain Defoe looked to have avoided what seemed to be inevitable surgery
and Frank Lampard looked doomed to miss at least one match.
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has set his sights on snapping up out of favour Monaco midfielder Eidur
Gudjohnsen. The Icelandic international is set to be offloaded by the Ligue 1 club who appears
surplus to requirements at the Stade Louis II and the Anfield boss is looking to bring in the
vastly experienced campaigner to give him added strength in depth.
Stoke City record signing, Kenwyne Jones, is a player in need of form. He enjoyed a promising
start to life in the Barclays Premier League when then Sunderland manager, Roy Keane, took him to
the Stadium of Light. He caught the eye with some great performances up front, even earning himself
the honor of being linked with big money moves to the League's elite clubs including Liverpool,
Chelsea and Tottenham.
It's understood that Stoke City are in advanced talks with French side Monaco over the signing
of Icelandic forward Eidur Gudjohnsen. It's thought that Monaco is willing to let him move on
because he has fallen well down the pecking order.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis is desperate to sign more forward reinforcements as he looks to shake up
his front line.
The English Premier League season kicks off this weekend with title hopefuls Manchester City
traveling to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham. The Hotspurs took the Champions League spot that
City thought they would receive free in the mail after purchasing the likes of Joleon Lescott,
Wayne Bridge, Craig Bellamy, Gareth Barry, Patrick Viera, Adam Johnson, Aquaman, General Patton,
Matt Damon, Keira Knightly and Rodney Dangerfield late in the evening after a fourth bottle of
Roberto Mancini's favorite wine (which he recently named after Craig Bellamy).
Who they need: Spurs have a decent squad with depth, but a few players might be
needed to strengthen things especially if they have a good Champions League run.
Who they should buy: Rafael Van Der Vaart (Loan), Nedum Onuoha, Michah
Richards, Arda Turan, Fernando Gago, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Loric Remy
West Brom
Who they have bought: Steven Reid, Pablo Ibáñez, Boaz Myhill
Who they need: West Brom have a decent squad, but I don't see a striker there
capable of scoring 12 plus goals a season, nor do I see their midfielder's stepping up to pitch in,
although Brunt or Thomas may disagree with me.
Cripes, it's upon us. No longer a blurry speck in the distance, the new campaign approacheth
sharpish – and as such a wish-list for season 2010/11 is, if nothing else, rather timely...
1. Finish Fourth
Why the devil not? Admittedly nothing seems to have changed and nobody has been bought, but
finishing fourth is scientifically proven to be awesome, so let's aim for it again.
Who they have bought: Yaya ‘rip-off' Toure, David Silva, Jerome Boateng,
Aleksandar Kolarov
Who they need:They need to offload before they decide to buy again, but the
fact is that they have a young talented team that needs nurturing, not replacing.
By Tony Edwards - San Jose, CA (Sep 11, 2012) US Soccer Players -- In Tuesday's column, Tony asks about rosters, deadlines, and what's happening in the Los Angeles market. It's September, MLS and (most of the) European transfer window have closed until January. Why are we still hearing about players such as Eidur Gudjohnsen being on trial with MLS teams?
Hackworth says he will have "very honest conversations" with some players about their options.
Carroll named to Team of the Week. Comcast to have beIN Sport available in Spanish to area
customers on Thursday, but the channel won't have Friday's USMNT WCQ live. Ronaldo still sad. More
news.
Firstly, I'd like to apologize for not having posted anything recently, my internet connection
was limited the past two weeks while I was away and so I couldn't really get a post up.
Enough has happened since then though, and Im not sure where to begin. There has been talk on
and off about the match fixing scandals, though (and Im not surprised at all) it seems Marinakis
won't be touched any time soon.

Blinking heck, that was dashed hard work – to which end our vanquished opponents deserve
credit, while we can also direct sneers of ill-disguised derision at those fools who suggested
beforehand that while there is no such thing as an easy game in the Premiership, if there were then
Fulham at home would probably be it.
There's been news lately about the Wizards and some potential signings, including designated player
signings. Today, Thad over at The Back Post had a series of posts about some of the guys that were
potential signings, including some designated player candidates.
First, he posted about the rumors of Dayro Moreno, the Colombian international who the Wizards were
linked with.
