It's only Monday, but already it's almost time for another match. And for a moment it's almost
as though Liverpool were back in Europe once again, the games coming thick and furious and with
hardly a moment to decompress in between them. Then you remember that Liverpool's last bit of
midweek football was a will-sapping friendly at Rangers, and that this week's sees a trip to Stoke
to face a side renowned for its ability to sap the will of opponents and their fans alike.
The CL season has started. Always fun to make sure we all are up to speed with the 10 records we
hold in CL football:
1. Clarence Seedorf
Most cups: 4 (1995, 1998, 2003 and 2007)
2. Clarence Seedorf
Only winner with three different clubs: (Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan)
3.

Man Utd again pulled out a trademark late winner and for the second weekend in a row bailed out
David De Gea, who Sir Alex has tapped to fill the giant shoes of Edwin Van Der Sar.
This time it was a low angled shot by debutant Shane Long which De Gea should have safely
covered.

The 19-time champions of England, Manchester United will now be looking to avenge their defeat
of the UEFA Champions League final twice in three years against Barcelona. Alex Ferguson's eyes
will be set at the coveted trophy as rumors of his retirement and his possible replacement are
renewed every season.
Can Chelsea and Arsenal close the gap to Manchester? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Last season saw domestic dominance return to the north of England, with Manchester's top
clubs claiming the two biggest pieces of domestic silverware. With just over a month left in the
transfer window, it's time to see whether the London pair of Chelsea and Arsenal have closed the
North-South Divide.
The Red Devils have already signed 3 players since the transfer window opened at the end of the
last Premier League campaign.
Phil Jones was their first signing for £16 million from Blackburn and he joined on a five-year
deal.
Many fans have doubts as to whether Phil Jones is up to the high-standards that The Red Devils
have adopted over the years.
As much as it had made the rounds in the transfer rumor mill over the last few months, it was of
surprise to no one when David de Gea officially signed on the dotted line last week to become
Manchester United's keeper of the present and future. With Edwin van der Sar hanging up his [...]
Since the arrival of their bottomless pit of money, Manchester City have spent vast sums of
money to build a side capable of taking on Europe's best. Extortionate wages have been offered to
some of the world's best players, and even those average players who have joined City have enjoyed
lucrative pay rises.

A few Manchester United footballers got together for an informal goal challenge during the tail end
of the Premier League season to see who had the best goal accuracy. Wayne Rooney, Nani, Chris

Heading into his 30s already, Manchester United's Korean midfielder, Park Ji Sung, starts to
have some consideration about his future at United as he believes his time won't be that long at
Old Trafford.
Although the player won't be leaving in the summer, Ji Sung does not think that he will still be
playing with United in the next two or three years simply because his quality won't be the same
again after those range of time.
With team mates Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Edwin Van der Sar all retiring this summer, Park
Ji-Sung has revealed he has started to give own retirement some thought.
He joined the club as a 24-year-old, but six years later, and his contract set to expire next
summer, Park has hinted he may not end his career with United.
When Transfers Go Wrong: 11 Players The Premier League Will Never Forget - originally posted on

Manchester United and Liverpool have both be criticised for over paying for players,
however, what about those clubs that got it totally wrong? Here are 11 of the worst signings from
recent Premier League history.
Here is the list of players released by Premier League clubs this summer.
From Fulham: Zoltan Gera, Edward Johnson, Diomansy Kamara, John Pantsil, Matthew Saunders
Other interesting names:
Arsenal have released Thomas Cruise
Villa have released Nigel Reo-Coker could be an interesting signing
Birmingham have released Mitchell McPike
And Maik Taylor, for that matter
Blackpool have released half their squad, for obvious reasons
Manchester United have released Owen Hargreaves, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Edwin van der Sar.
Despite taking home a record 19th league title last month, Manchester United manager Sir Alex
Ferguson has already reiterated his desire to win title 20 next May, and has challenged his players
to uphold the club's proud winning tradition.
"It doesn't go away. I'm not going to take it easy because we won the title.
According to the Daily Star, Premier League champions Manchester United are just "48
hours" away from clinching the signing of Ashley Young. Young has just one season left on his
contract with Aston Villa, and according to the report the Red Devils will pay nearly £20 million
for his services.

The obituaries being written about Manchester United's OAPs for the last five years are now
finally relevant. Gary Neville and Edwin van der Sar have retired, Paul Scholes might have by the
time you read this article and Ryan Giggs is holding back the development of younger players with
more long-term value to the club.
Five Things we learned from Barcelona's 3-1 trouncing of Manchester United:
1. It's definitely now time for Sir Alex Ferguson to trust his younger
players
Paul Wilson has already argued this in The Guardian, and he couldn't be more right. How
is it possible that a club of United's stature and resources can roll up in the Champions' League
final against the best passing team in the world some argue the best EVER and stick a 37-year-old
ex-winger into the centre of midfield?
Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has heaped lavish praise on star striker Lionel Messi by
declaring the Argentine the ‘best football player ever'.
Messi was voted man-of-the-match during Barcelona's emphatic demolition of Manchester United
during Saturday's UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley.
Manchester United and Barcelona at Wembley, then. These are two clubs whose European histories
have become interwoven with each other as well as this venue. When Manchester United became the
first English club to win the European Cup, they did so at Wembley in 1968. Twenty-four years
later, Barcelona won it for the first time at the same venue.
With Edwin Van Der Sar retiring after Saturdays Champions League final when Man Utd face
Barcelona at Wembley (what a way to bow out of the game!), United will need to replace the reliable
Dutch stopper and it seems to be that they have found a near identical, if what comparatively
unexperienced keeper in David De Gea.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea
is close to joining the Premier League champions.
United are in the market for a new stopper with Dutchman Edwin van der Sar set to bring the curtain
down on his long career after this Saturday's Champions League final.
A bold, decisive signing as Atletico Madrid's David De Gea is signed for £17m as replacement
for the retiring Edwin Van der Sar. The amount paid for the 20 year old sensation is the highest
paid by an English club for a goalie. A changing of the guard?
De Gea according to Sir Alex has all the leadership and organizational attributes of Van der Sar
and the video clip above seems to show he has the reflexes as well.
Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague broke the news on Revista de la Liga that
Manchester United prospect David de Gea will be in the Old Trafford nets next season. The 20 year
old goalkeeper should be unveiled in the near future as a United player for around £17 million and
will be seen as an immediate replacement to retiring goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

According to several sources in Spain, notably AS, it looks like Manchester United are within
days of wrapping up a deal for 20-year-old Atletico Madrid 'keeper (and part-time Norwegian rapper)
David De Gea as a replacement for their outbound No.
English roundup-Ferguson set to ring the changes - Yahoo! Eurosport "There are players who need a

Sir Alex Ferguson is never content to rest on his laurels, no matter how much success comes the
way of the Scot and the players under his control at Old Trafford. So, it won't come as too much of
a surprise to fans of the club that the wily United manager is planning on bringing a few fresh
faces in over the summer as the Red Devils seek to guard against the predicted rise of the blue
side of Manchester.
Without wishing to take anything for granted, the best news to come out of a disappointing weekend
for Manchester United was a surprise comment made by goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar. The Dutch

Manchester United took a big step towards a Champions League semi-final berthafter Wayne
Rooney's first-half strike gave them a priceless away goal against Chelsea.
Neither side were able to hit their usual stride in the early stages, and it was nearly 20
minutes before the first chance fell to Didier Drogba, whose rasping shot from inside the area was
turned over the top by Edwin van der Sar.

A second string Manchester United side progressed to the 5th round of the FA cup after coming from
behind against an exciting Southampton side. The Saints had taken a deserved lead late in the first
half after Richard Chaplow blasted home an emphatic finish from inside the box past Manchester
United debutant Anders Lindegaard.
On a rainy day on the western shore of England, Blackpool put a scare into the Red Devils of
Manchester in an entertaining match. In the end, United prevailed as the Tangerines were unable to
finish off the League leaders, 2-3.
FORMATIONS: Both teams fielded 4-3-3 formations.
That was an opportunity, was that. Make no mistake. Manchester United, backs to the wall, a man
down, holding on for dear life, a buoyant home crowd willing us on... and yet there was to be no
last minute heroism. No reward for the near constant pressure being applied by the excellent Spurs
midfield.
Ahead of kick off I said the most important thing today, the necessity, was to secure the point
that would take us back to the top of the league. Spurs are a good side and to get a draw at their
place has to be considered a good result and a win would be a bonus.
When Rafael was sent off with 17 minutes of normal time remaining, a point was looking better
than ever, so credit to our lads for not doing what Spurs do when a decision goes against them.
Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has insisted that he finds in himself a suitable
replacement for 40 year-old Edwin van der Sar claiming he is good enough to fill in the gloves when
the Dutch finally calls quit.
Van der sar has been recently out with a flu, and the current Manchester United number 1 is
considering his options concerning either retiring or going on for Manchester United.
1. Beating Liverpool is always brilliant. Knocking them out of the FA Cup is great. Destroying
all the good feeling and positivity that came with Kenny Dalglish's appointment is even better.
Although I'm frustrated we didn't totally destroy them today. We dominated the game entirely, as
you would expect for a side with an extra man for an hour, but just weren't clinical enough in the
box.
