Manchester City have officially went out from another competition, this time it's the Carling
Cup after Roberto Mancini's side only managed to get a 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the
competition's second leg, while getting beaten 1-0 in the first meeting.
Mancini himself was very disappointed at that failure but once again he put the blame on
refereeing decision instead of his team's own performance, which the manager though already
pleasing enough.

Kenny Dalglish paid tribute to a 'fantastic performance' from Liverpool after watching his side

The Reds held a 1-0 lead going into the second leg of their semi-final at Anfield but still
displayed a positive attitude to finish the job and set up a Wembley showpiece against Cardiff.

Manchester City finally ended their bad run and also kept their lead at the top of the premier
league after picking up a pretty hard fought victory against Wigan Athletic on Monday.
Bosnian international striker, Edin Dzeko, ended his 11th matches goal drought to bring joy
again for Man City's faithful after Roberto Mancini's side were disappointed in FA Cup and Carling
Cup matches few days ago.
Arsene Wenger said he doesn't expect to sign any new players during the rest of the January
transfer window and feels it should be scrapped anyway. Which is a little odd considering we just
saw Thierry Henry climb into Emirates Stadium through the window. If he sticks to his word, then
Gunner fans shouldn't expect to see the cavalry arrive in the nick of time to save the season from
sinking any further.
Edin Dzeko gets on the end of a wonderful free-kick from David Silva to give Manchester City all
three points against Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Wigan Athletic 0-1 Manchester City Premier League 16th January 2012
An Edin Dzeko header midway through the first-half was enough to give Manchester City a win at
the DW Stadium on Monday night, a victory that puts them three points clear of rivals Man United at
the top of the table.
Roberto, ditch Sheikh Mansour for Mitt Romney. He's got cash to give away.
The Italian is complaining that he's down to two central midfielders and one striker. James
Milner and Nigel De Jong will start in the middle and Sergio Aguero patrols up front.
The Ivory Coast has refused his demand to release Yaya and Kolo Toure till after the Man Utd FA
Cup showdown for their ACN campaign.

Edin Dzeko's ponderous play blunted the creativity of Sergio Agüero and David Silva, while Andy
Carroll needs more support Emerging from an unexpected post-Christmas hangover, Manchester City had
something to prove on Tuesday night.
As City wheel and deal in another transfer window, Samir Nasri falls further down the pecking
order. And he just joined. Think how early-adopter Wayne Bridge feels.
It's hard to watch several leagues simultaneously, which somewhat tempers the distaste for the
phenomenon of sugardaddied Manchester City and makes the team an intriguing entity to behold.

Sunderland 1-0 Manchester City Premier League 1st January 2012
After seeing Manchester United and Chelsea both lose, and Tottenham drop two points at the
Liberty Stadium, the scene was set at the Stadium of Light for Manchester City's diamond-encrusted
side to move ahead in the race for the title.
Happy Boxing Day! To start off this marvelous day, here's Mario Balotelli's
specially designed Christmas cake complete with an evil looking Santa Claus (is that a
knife on good ol' Noel Noel?!) You see, Manchester City came up with a
pretty brilliant idea where they got players to compete for the title of 'Best Christmas
Cake Decorator'.
So it is Manchester City who proudly sits at the top of the Premier League table going into
Christmas this year.
Of course, manager Roberto Mancini is refusing to get carried away by all that, but it is true
that it is his side who now hold the advantage going into the tough second part of the season.

As a player, you have respect for Barcelona but you never have fear. You have to plan for a good
game against them and to try to cause them problems. So no, we do not have any fear of Manchester
City, especially because we're playing at home in this match but we do have the ultimate respect
for them because they're the league leaders.
Maxi Rodrigues scored his second goal in nine days against Chelsea on Tuesday night as Liverpool
recorded a comfortable win at Stamford Bridge, yet despite his fantastic record over the last nine
starts, the Argentinean still struggles to get into the team.
Let's look at the facts: In the last 9 starts, Maxi has scored 10 goals and provided 1 assist.
Arsenal's 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the Carling Cup match yesterday showed, once again,
the power of petropounds. But one goal from over 100 million is a pretty weak return, really.
However, a win is a win and even if City are on the ropes in Europe, they've booked their spot in
the semifinals of the league cup.

Arsene Wenger did his usual Carling Cup thing against Manchester City on Wednesday night,
resting most of his first teamers and giving some youngsters a bit of action. Roberto Mancini
rested Joe Hart, Mario Balotelli and a couple of other City megastars, but with the squad the
Italian has assembled, even a (partly) second-string side is full to the brim with expensive
internationals.
Chasing after his former self, not the opponent
Carling Cup returns to the menu as the victors of tonight's game will seal their path into the
semi final of this competition. It won't be so easy to win this year's competitions, well, compared
to our run last season. Apart from Manchester City, there's still Manchester United, Chelsea and
Liverpool still in this competition.
I admit that I'm not the biggest fan of the English national team (Terry, Cole, Rooney... do I
need to go on?), but yesterday's win over Spain was stunning. The performance was far from
beautiful but at the end of the day, Fabio Capello and his side, which was missing many
stars, were able to get the job done, beating the world champions at Wembley Stadium.

QPR 2-3 Manchester City: The Thriller in Hammersmith - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Manchester City continued their illustrious and table topping start to the English Premier
League season with a 3-2 away win at Loftus Road against newly promoted Queens Park Rangers.
In truth, the scoreline flattered the travelling Manchester club as QPR fought tooth and nail
with City and nearly upset a top four side for their second consecutive home match when they
defeated Chelsea.

Queens Park Rangers 2-3 Manchester City Premier League 5th November 2011
It was a clash of the haves and the have-nots at QPR in a way, with the tiny Loftus Road ground
playing host to mega-bucks Manchester City.
Not much changes happens in the top of Premier League on Saturday as Manchester City holds their
current five points lead over second place Man United, while Chelsea and Newcastle still battles on
for the third place.
However, things isn't actually easy on Saturday especially for the league leader, who can
consider themselves a bit lucky in managing to nick a win against Queens Park Rangers (QPR) which
City's striker, Edin Dzeko, believed as their toughest test so far.

Anfield legend John Aldridge has warned that the current Liverpool team's wastefulness in front of
goal could prove costly at the end of the season, and he believes that Kenny Dalglish's team is
missing a player with one very important, sought after quality.
Aldridge, who scored an incredibly clinical 63 goals in 104 appearances for Liverpool,
observed:
"If we want to get in the top four then we can't afford to be so wasteful.

Roberto Mancini's star-studded squad had to dig deep to secure yet another league victory, this
time at Molineux.

then saw captain Vincent Kompany sent off for a last-man challenge on Kevin Doyle in the box after
a shaky-looking Joe Hart had spilled the ball.

It was a weekend for eye-opening Premier League surprises as a new team in Manchester finally
announced themselves.
Anyone who was at Old Trafford on Sunday to see Manchester City annihilate their neighbours or
who watched the highlights on MOTD2 would have seen the same thing. United fans streaming out of a
ground a full 20 minutes before the end. Yes, their outplayed team were 3-0 down but so what? By
the time the sixth goal had been hammered in by Edin Dzeko, most of the stadium was about a quarter
full.
By IAN HOLLIDAY
It took Manchester City until the 60th minute to score its second goal at Old Trafford Sunday,
but once Mario Balotelli had tapped home James Milner's cross for his and the team's second of the
match, the metaphorical floodgates opened.
Sergio Aguero struck in the 69th and Edin Dzeko added a brace of his own in the last minute plus
stoppage time as the visitors hammered their derby rivals 6-1.
To start, declarations that Manchester City are now guaranteed to win the league or triumph in
Europe come as extremely premature overreactions.
But the possible reverberations concerning Manchester City's potential future conquests in the
wake of their clinical 6-1 destruction over England's most dominant team and Europe's runner-up
only to a seemingly invincible Barca do tend to evoke the sense that Roberto Mancini is on the
verge of pushing their "noisy neighbors" tag into oblivion by reaching the stratosphere of the
world's clubs.
I think nobody was expecting Manchester City to win 6-1 against their local rivals, Manchester
United in today's derby in Manchester. It was a strange match, which at the score 3-1 for City, the
Reds basically gave up and let Manchester City's awesome striking force with Kun Aguero, David
Silva and Edin Dzeko, have a field day.
A double from Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and solo goals from Sergio Aguero and David Silva saw
Manchester City crush Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford in an unbelievable Premier League
encounter. The ‘noisy neighbours' have not only created a racket, they have taken over the
streets, all avenues, the high roads and the city [.
