Eddie Pope was kind enough to contribute mightily to the long-promised Top 5 List of transfers that
weren't for Americans, so I'm going to air his full comments on the relevant matter contained
within unedited. If you haven't seen it yet, you may wish to read that before the following

With 2012 marking the beginning of the USA's FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and the players
here hoping to make a big impression, we decided to look back at the January camp roster from this
time in the previous two cycles to see if there is any forecasting to be done on how many players
will actually reach the World Cup.
Sorry this took so long. This week had a lot of unexpected turns, and, as always, I could really
use some help here. Still, let's begin.
Winning the Cup last week did a number of things for the Galaxy, including topping off a
magnificent season and giving David Beckham serious reason to consider staying.

What lineup will Jurgen Klinsmann use tonight in his USMNT debut against Mexico?
We'll all have to wait and see of course, and another thing we'll have to wait and see about is
what players Klinsmann will rely heavily on during his time as US coach.
Might those players be on the field tonight against Mexico?

I wasn't always anti-All-Star Game.
I remember the first one, and how exciting it was. I seem to remember the first half being much
better than the second half, but it was a large crowd at Giants Stadium and I thought it was
awesome seeing all the league's stars come together for a game. And you had big stars then like
Marco Etcheverry, Carlos Valderrama and Jorge Campos as well as guys like Eddie Pope and seeing all
of them play on a team was cool.
The celebrity partipant list is starting to shape up for the upcoming Mia Hamm Celebrity Soccer
Challange. For the first time in its history Washington, D.C. will host the annual Mia Hamm

I hate DC. It has nothing to do with politics. My hatred started in 1996, and I can pinpoint it to
a precise moment on October 2, 1996. The four regular season games were intense, and a rivalry had
begun to emerge. The joy of shootout victory, courtesy of eleventh-shooter Peter Vermes (DC
protested he shot out of sequence) will always remain a most cherished memory, when victory there
seemed our rightful legacy, carried over from a decade's absence of soccer at the Swamp.
On a tough afternoon for US soccer supporters, the United States lost 4-0 to Spain in front of over
64,000 fans at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The United States started a mix of
veterans and squad players against an equally experimental Spain. Without Landon Donovan (illness)
or Carlos Bocanegra (rested), US coach Bob Bradley opted to leave regulars Michael Bradley, Steve
Cherundolo, and Clint Dempsey on the bench.

Cobi Jones is considered a legend of US Soccer and MLS. Having played in Europe, South America

Over the years, the D.C. United-New York Red Bulls rivalry has included some of the biggest
names -- of both players and coaches -- in Major League Soccer history. Names like John Harkes,
Marco Etcheverry, Luciano Emilio, Alecko Eskandarian, Jaime Moreno, Ben Olsen, Eddie Pope, Earnie
Stewart, Mike Petke, Jozy Altidore, Clint Mathis, Juan Pablo Angel, Tab Ramos, Tony Meola, Tim
Howard, Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley.
The Seattle Sounders are on the road this weekend in San Jose to face the Earthquakes. The
Sounders need to secure three points to get their season back on track especially against a rival
in the West for that vital third playoff spot. Dave Clark has three questions up for the game and
come back to SAH later today for a match preview and line-up card.
By Clemente Lisi – NEW YORK, NY (Mar 30, 2011) US Soccer Players – As a teenager growing up
during the 1990s, there were a lot of National Team players I admired. Above all, I respected Eddie
Pope. A gifted defender, Pope anchored the United States defense for nearly a decade and his
contributions were not always reflected in the box score.
Cobi Jones, who played more games for the U.S. men's team than anyone else, was elected to the
National Soccer Hall of Fame on Tuesday along with three-time World Cup veterans Eddie Pope and
Earnie Stewart.
The Hall of Fame itself is actually closed, but inductions continue.
Fittingly, Bob Gansler was lecturing at a coaching clinic in Florida when he heard the news on
Tuesday.
Gansler, who coached the Kansas City Wizards (now known as Sporting Kansas City) to their only
two MLS Cup appearances — winning the championship 2000 — was elected Tuesday to the National
Soccer Hall of Fame.
Milwaukee's Bob Gansler has earned yet another accolade in recognition of his
remarkable coaching career.

Longevity and productivity are two themes that can be used to describe the careers of the
players inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame this year.

It's a statement many people never thought would be made - MLS has now completed 15 seasons. Wow.
Every 5th year seems to be an appropriate time to look back at the past, so before we enter season
number 16, I'd like to take a look at the best players for each franchise through the first 15.
More specifically, I put together all time 18-man rosters for each club.
The Soccer Hall of Fame may be trapped in the Phantom Zone, but that doesn't mean there aren't
players to enshrine. So, let's look at this year's ballot!
...wait. Can you? You sure can't here. No, this site hasn't worked for a dog's age.
Oh, okay, the Fed has the list.
Yesterday the official ballot for the National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2011 was announced,
and United States soccer fans will surely be pleased with the candidates. The pool of possible Hall
of Famers is full of talented players who plied their trade both domestically in Major League
Soccer as well as those pioneers that paved the way for fellow Americans overseas.
