After losing a lot of their offensive firepower by parting ways with leading scorer and
Designated Player Andres Mendoza, the Columbus Crew took a step in finding an attacking solution
by signing Chilean midfielder Milovan Mirosevic on Wednesday.
Columbus had success with a Chilean signing a year ago, finding a stable right back in Sebastian
Miranda.

Former U.S. men's national team head coach Bob Bradley made his managerial debut for Egypt on
Monday, and the result was not a good one.
Brazil spoiled Bradley's first game in charge of the Pharoahs, winning 2-0 in a friendly played
in Doha, Qatar.
By Michael Lewis - NEW YORK, NY (Nov 3, 2011) US Soccer Players -- When he took over the coaching
reins of the MetroStars prior to the 2003 season, coach Bob Bradley decided to implement an
extensive rebuilding process from top to bottom. That included positioning the club in the MLS
SuperDraft, where they grabbed midfielder Ricardo Clark as the second overall pick, Mike Magee was
the fourth choice, and Eddie Gaven became the the.
The last weekend of the regular season featured playoff-bound teams looking foolish against
opponents who have only the 2012 campaign to look forward to. In some cases those losses were
suffered by reserve squads, as playoff teams rested starters, but in other cases the playoff teams
just looked over-matched.

If you had spoken with D.C. United coach Ben Olsen this past offseason and told him centerback
Ethan White, a 20-year-old Homegrown Player, would start 19 matches his rookie year, he "probably
wouldn't have believed you.
Each week about this time – quite early on Monday, a second cup of warm, wonderful,
understanding coffee at my side – I file my MLS Weekly Review for SI.com. We call it "Five Things
to Know" about the just-completed round of MLS matches.
And then, about five minutes later, I'm thinking about all the things I wish I could have
included.

Another opportunity for D.C. United to make up ground in the playoff race. Another loss.
Thee days after dropping a decision to the Philadelphia Union, D.C. United lost again, falling
2-1 to the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium on Saturday.
The decisive goal came in the second half on a beautiful diving header from Eddie Gaven, who
made his return for the Crew after being injured for nearly two months.
The Columbus Crew scored two second-half goals to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit to send D.C.
United to a second loss in four days and severely damaging their playoff hopes. The 2-1 loss leaves
United at least 2 points out ...
With the 1-1 draw against Philadelphia on Friday and the way other results went this past weekend
for Sporting KC, the Wizards face a game that's become even bigger than Friday's game. The team the
Wizards are tied with for second place, the Columbus Crew come to KC for a Wednesday night league
game.
On a chilly night in Chester against a listless first place Columbus Crew team, a goal from the
resurgent Sebastien Le Toux was all the Philadelphia Union needed to earn their first victory since
July 17. In an effort to breathe life into his team, coach Peter Nowak rang in the changes, most
notably bringing 16-year-old Zach Pfeffer into the starting lineup for his first MLS start.
Mike Woitalla of Soccer America writes of the age and size (or lack of) in the modern
midfielders.
A player who still needs a ride to practice from his parents scored his first Major League Soccer
goal earlier this month. Diego Fagundez, who turned at 16 last Valentine's Day, made his MLS debut
as a 66th minute sub and scored 20 minutes later against Chivas USA.
The Columbus Crew as a franchise has been historically kind to the Seattle Sounders in their
short MLS history. They've never beaten the Sounders, either at home or away, and their losses have
been some of Seattle's most memorable wins. Last season, a 4-0 win over the Crew in Columbus was
the most emphatic of the season.
The last team that Sigi Schmid won the MLS Cup comes to town again on Saturday. The Columbus
Crew finally look a lot different than they did in that era, and there could be as few as four
players on the pitch that he coached before leaving for the Seattle Sounders. Current coach Robert
Warzycha has managed to both rebuild and win (1st in East, 4th overall by PPM).

Do not feel bad if after taking a look down the Columbus Crew roster for Saturday's showdown you
find yourself scratching your head.
In a league designed to be dominated by superstars, the Crew have taken the industrious path
alongside team's like Real Salt Lake and Dallas.
In a league where over half the teams make the playoffs, it's not often a team finds itself in a
must-win situation with 11 games remaining. The New England Revolution has reached that point.
Sure, the Revs could lose to the Columbus Crew on Saturday and still make the playoffs, but the
margin of error is becoming frighteningly small.
Major League Soccer announced the new-look MLS playoff schedule on Tuesday, with the wildcard
round taking place over a Wednesday and Thursday night on Oct. 26-27.
The first leg of the conference semifinals will take place over the weekend a couple of days
later, followed by the second leg of those ties and the conference finals the following week.
Rapids' StrategyWith Nyassi on fire, it was easy for Gary Smith to maintain his dynamic strike partnership with
Omar Cummings. The home side employed their usual 4-4-2 lineup with Mastroeni and Larentowicz in
central midfield and Mullan and Thompson on the flanks. The first half strategy was to switch the
ball across the field to Mullan who was in acres of space because the Crew kept a narrow defensive
shell.
Week 21 of MLS action produced something spectacular. A weekend devoid of the 0-0 tie. Fantastic
matches with some impressive goals treated fans to some wonderful talking points. Whether it was
Dwayne De Rosario's hat trick, LA's destruction of FC Dallas or Eric Hassli's double. Here is your
recap and highlights:
Colorado Rapids 2, Columbus Crew 0
The Colorado and Columbus match-up saw two teams coming off of impressive performances.
A 2010 postseason rematch is set to take place in the Mile High City, as the defending MLS Cup
champion Colorado Rapids host the surging Columbus Crew (9:30 p.m., Fox Soccer Channel).
The Rapids have found new life after the Achilles' tear that ruled star striker Conor Casey out
for the rest of the season.

When Sporting Kansas City realized it would be playing its first 10 games on the road this
season while Livestrong Sporting Park neared completion, the club surely assumed it would start
slow and hopefully pick up the pace in the season's second half.
OBETZ, Ohio - The Crew's 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake on Saturday was not only impressive
because they beat the best home in MLS over the past three seasons, but it also offered up a bit of
history for Columbus.
When Eddie Gaven scored in the fifth minute and Tommy Heinemann followed five minutes later, it
marked the second time in the club's regular-season and playoff history (514 games) that they had a
2-0 lead after 10 minutes.
Prior to this MLS season, few expected the Columbus Crew to have the view from the top of the
Eastern Conference mountain after a roster overhaul that saw numerous veterans get swapped out for
unheralded youngsters.
Yet with the calendar turning to August and after a win at perhaps the toughest venue in the
league, that's exactly where Columbus stands.
Manchester United remained perfect in the World Football Challenge with a 3-1 come from behind
win over the Chicago Fire. United began the game with mostly their reserve squad leaving Wayne
Rooney, Ryan Giggs, and Nani on the bench. The result was a competitive first half that ended with
the Fire up 1-0 on a Cory Gibbs 13th minute goal.
Quick Recap:
The Portland Timbers probably play their most complete road game of the year and score the only
goal of the game. Yet they still lose 1-0 away on an Own goal.
First Half:
No one was able to see the first 10 minutes of the game because of technical difficulties but
according to John Strong we didn't miss any goal scoring opportunities.
When New York Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe named the game-day roster for the 2011 MLS
All-Star Team, there were destined to be players who many MLS fans felt were snubbed. It happens
every year, but this year there seemed to be more snubs than usual.
It is clear that some of Backe's selections were made with more consideration toward building a
team capable of beating Manchester United rather than rewarding the league's best players through
the first half of the season.
Amanda, Shana, and Megan start off this episode with their mourning/analysis of the Gold Cup
Final, deciding to get the pain over with quickly. They go on to happier topics, including MLS
Goalkeeper of the Week/Year/Decade Mike Magee (but we're still not sure if he tops Eddie Gaven),
and their continuing excitement for the Women's World Cup.

Andres Mendoza is on a pretty good tear.
The big striker scored goals in each half off mistakes to lead an impressive performance by the
Columbus Crew in its 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids Sunday night at Crew Stadium.
Mendoza's first goal came in the 18th minute.

Three games into his stint as interim head coach, Frank Klopas seems like the right hire for the
Chicago Fire.
Klopas, who replaced Carlos de los Cobos late last month following a slow start in which the
club tallied nine points in 12 MLS games, made all the right moves in Sunday's 1-0 win for the Fire
over the host Columbus Crew.
The Chicago Fire and the Columbus Crew kick-off in less than half an hour. The action starts on
MY50 Chicago at 3:00 PM CST. Over 400 Fire fans made the trip to the game and it will be
interesting to see how far their voices carry.
The starting lineup for the Chicago Fire is a 4-4-2. Sean Johnson; Jalil Anibaba, Yamith Cuesta,
Cory Gibbs, Gonzalo Segares; Dominic Oduro, Logan Pause, Baggio Husidic, Patrick Nyarko; Gaston
Puerari, Diego Chaves.

It was a back and forth affair between the Columbus Crew and Chivas USA as the two clubs battled
to a 3-3 draw.
The Crew were able to battle back from a three decifits as Crew forward Andres Mendoza tallied a
pair of goals in the high-octane match.
On May 21st, the Project 2010 Supercomputer was asked a question: Who should Bob Bradley take to
the Gold Cup mathematically speaking? You can read its response here (and you can see the basis
of its response here). The results ranged from expected to shocking. Now is the time to take a
look back and separate the good from the bad, and the crazy from the crazy-like-a-fox.
Whew! I almost wasn't able to put this week's question and answer preview thread together given
that SB Nation doesn't currently have a Columbus Crew blogger (know of one?). I was thinking about
doing my own personal QA and with myself based on my own research, but it probably would have been
a miserable failure.
With the Gold Cup drawing near, and Bob Bradley's roster announcement impending, most American
soccer pundits are writing about who Bob Bradley will or should call up for the tournament. It's
time for us to do the same...sort of.
As you know if you read these pages with any regularity, we here at Project 2010 are mildly
obsessed with our little creation, the P2010 Index, an aggregation of the soccer media's ratings of
US players in international matches (it's all explained here) .

STORY OF THE DAY
Kristian Dyer at Metro New York gets Luke Rodgers to pour more gasoline on his feud with Landon
Donovan.
Looking back on the game a day later, I think I'm even more happy with a tie than I was
immediately after. The early goal really made it seem like the Seattle Sounders had a much better
chance of winning this game than they really did, as they really never controlled the match for any
lengthy period.
For the first time this season, Sporting KC's high powered offense was completely shut down in
Columbus as the Crew pulled out a 1-0 win last night at Crew Stadium. Disappointing is one way to
describe the game, boring might be another. Neither team really went about creating many great
chances, Sporting KC had one or two good looks at goal while Columbus had about the same.
Sporting Kansas City get back to league play tomorrow when the Wizards will take on the Columbus
Crew at Crew Stadium. After having last week off, KC has had a chance for a few of those nagging
injuries to heal up. The Crew on the other hand were busy last week when they went out to LA and
took on Chivas USA.

CARSON, Calif. – The Columbus Crew traveled to Sothern California in hopes of breaking a
five-year winless streak against Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center. Ninety minutes of scoreless
soccer later, the Crew still hadn't figured out how to beat the Rojiblancos.

From Vancouver's thrilling three-goal comeback to Dwayne De Rosario's debut with the New York
Red Bulls, MLS Week 3 was memorable for a variety of reasons.
The Whitecaps posted a thrilling battle from three goals down, including a pair of Camilo goals
in stoppage time.
