Red Bull Arena construction time-lapse: November 2008 from Red Bulls Reader on Vimeo.
Squint your eyes just a bit and it won't be New Jersey you see in the background there, but
downtown Houston. (Nothing like a little optimism on a Friday morning!)

This is a time-lapse of the building of Red Bulls' new playpen. Squint your eyes just a bit and you
might be able to see the east side and downtown Houston in the background.

I know this has been posted in several places (specifically here and here), but Dynamo Park's
renderings are what SF over at The Offside Rules refers to as "stadium porn." I, er, see
what he means.
Watch the Channel 11 story here.
Here's the Channel 11 story:
HOUSTON—On the east side of downtown sits the future site of the new Dynamo
stadium.

Last year at this time I was hoping for these things:
A forward to take the heat off an aging Brian Ching
A back up keeper to fill in for the departed Zach Wells
Movement on a Dynamo Park deal.
This year, my list looks like this:
Another forward to complement the attack of an aging Brian Ching and young Kei Kamara
A back up keeper to fill in (and do much better than) the departed Tony Caig
The final movement on a Dynamo Park deal
Man, the worm doesn't turn much, does it?

The season may have only one game left, but Dynamo fans are all needed to head out to the new
stadium site Thursday. Here's an e-mail that is making the rounds.
PLEASE READ THIS VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO THE END AND RESPOND! THIS IS OF PRIME
IMPORTANCE TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE EAST END!

Now that is one very fine fake photo, don't you think? (It's actually an enhanced (in more way than
one, if you ask me) version of the HDC, site of Dynamo's third championship postgame celebration.)
Unfortunately, I can not take credit for it, which goes instead to the excellent blog The Original
Winger.

Finally, a little bit of time to write, and oh, what a series of topics there are. Here's a quick
rundown:
FORZA: Dynamo vs. little d tonight in the Thursday ESPN game. (Here's Jeff Carlisle's
always-excellent advance here and the Chron's here.) I know, I know. Journalistic objectivity
should compel me to write the team's name properly and all that.

I am asking Nutmegged readers to assist me in dispelling my cynicism. Now, I'm not huge on online
petitions. Mostly I think it's just a way for people to feel good about themselves while
accomplishing nothing.
However, I do indeed understand the value of directing your intentions to create your reality.

Well, well, well, fresh off of the news over the last few days about the kerfuffle, hubbub and
hullabulloo about the Don's letter and screwing up Dynamo's negotiations with the city over the
Dynamo Park deal, we get this little piece at the Houston Business Journal by Greg Barr (a big
shoutout to DuNord for tipping off about this.

That empty field right there, the proposed site of Dynamo Park in the shadow if downtown, is still
on the table, regardless of what you may have read this week about letters and meetings,
intimidating and otherwise. (No need to have me run down all the events of yesterday. Read about
them here, here and here.

Bernardo Fallas over at the Chron yesterday made note of the fact that Dynamo's self-imposed April
1 deadline for a stadium passed without notice and without comment. But you know as a longtime
Houstonian who has seen deal after deal done in this city, other than the announcement of the deal
itself, I think this is the best possible news.

Take a good look at that picture, because right there is the three-headed coalition that is going
to make Dynamo Park a reality sooner rather than later. Dominic Kinnear has put together the team
on the field to produce two titles. Mayor Bill White has coalesced the city's various forces
leading to yesterday's purchase of the land for ParadiseTexas.

Wow, as Glenn Davis says, "Game On!"
Y'know, throughout the offseason I looked on in mounting trepidation as many other MLS teams were
highly, highly active and the only thing Dynamo was seemingly doing was looking forward to a
crowded fixture schedule and losing Joseph Ngwenya and Nate Jaqua.

The Chronicle's story about the city of Houston starting their purchase of five blocks just east of
downtown (not really "five downtown blocks" is it since it's east of US-59?) is really, really good
news for anyone who's interested in getting this stadium built. Simply put, without the city owning
that land, there's no way the stadium deal gets done in such a great location, so deal with Dynamo
in place or not, this is an incredibly positive development.

Word from the Charleston Post and Courier (and that you once again to il Brucio at Du Nord for
finding this link), is that USL side Charleston Battery's Blackbaud Stadium is going to be
converted to solar power.
Now how cool would this be? Dynamo Park is still a long way off, but what would it say to the city
of Houston (where environmentalism has a -- how shall I put this kindly -- uneven record to say the
least), to MLS and to the nation at large to have the new facility, when it's built, do the same
thing?

Carolyn Feibel in today's Houston Chronicle has an excellent piece (see it here) on the city of
Houston's plan to spend up to $20 million to purchase land east of downtown for the site of the
future Dynamo Park.
Feibel reported that the Harris County Appraisal District has appraised the land in question at
about $5.

This is going to be a semi-regular feature on this blog, taking pics of the proposed site of
Dynamo's new playpen in the shadow of downtown Houston. I start off with a map of the site, with
marking that will be explained further down in this post. In the pictures, I was standing on the
corner of Dowling and Capitol streets looking to the west.
