Patrick van Aanholt is off once again. Vitesse announced today that the 21-year-old fullback
will be joining the Dutch club on loan for the remainder of the season.
In need of games
This is pretty good news. While the Eredivisie is a clear step down in competition from the
Premier League, van Aanholt should have a chance to receive significant minutes after an egregious
loan spell during the first half of the season.
January, the start of a new year, is often seen as a month of hope. Resolutions made as the
previous year came to an end are still fresh in the mind as is the belief that they will be
maintained. That similar resolutions were made (but not kept) before doesn't matter. This time
round will be different, this time round I will make it.

By Clemente Lisi – NEW YORK, NY (Dec 30, 2011) US Soccer Players – If 2010 was considered a
great year for the National Team because of its performance at the World Cup, then 2011 will go
down as the year where American players shined individually. Just ask Jozy Altidore. The
22-year-old striker turned things around this fall after signing with Dutch club AZ Alkmaar,
proving that he can be a deadly offensive weapon following.
In recent years, the January window's been relatively tame 2007 was maybe the most active, with
Javier Mascherano and Alvaro Arbeloa among the names on the way in, and 2008 saw Martin Skrtel
arrive with Momo Sissoko heading out. But 2009 brought only the exit for the recently arrived but
underwhelming Robbie Keane, and 2010 had only Maxi Rodriguez arriving on a free with Andrea Dossena
and Andriy Voronin leaving Anfield.
It would appear from various reports in the media that Newcastle United had hoped to resurrect the
deal to sign Erik Pieters from PSV Eindhoven during the January transfer window. However the Dutch
club are not willing to part with the Holland international according to quotes attributed to their
Sporting Director, Marcel Brand.
The lottery to allocation Lee Nguyen to an MLS team is set to talk place tomorrow. Rumor is that
all the teams in the league have applied to be in the lottery. For those that don't know, the
lottery is based off of a team's record over the last season. That being said, with Sporting KC
finishing 5th in the regular season last year, their chances are not great.

Bad luck. Just about to start the biggest game of this fall, and possibly of this season,
Olympique Lyonnais is in disarray. After a promising start to the season, both in the game and in
the mindset, OL is so far in a series of three defeats, regardless of the competition. Rémi
Garde's men are ineffective upfront and fragile behind.

In their quest to make a return to the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur have signed American
goalkeeper Brad Friedel. The 40 year old was available on a free transfer from Aston Villa, and his

told the club's official website.
Tonight is the first of three international friendlies included in the season ticket holders
package. Essentially these are games that don't really matter and are more just fun for people who
like to see and watch other teams from around the world play in our own back yard. While it might
seem like a useless waste to some of the more hardcore soccer supporters, I, personally, enjoy
international friendlies.

Oguchi Onyewu and FC Twente need a comeback of epic proportions to keep their UEFA Europa League
