AEK 3-1 Larissa

AEK Archives 10 November @ 09:44 AM EST

So, a nice, relatively comfortable win on Monday brought us up from ninth to joint fifth.

We got the three points we so desperately needed, as well as a little bit of reassurance for the players and fans. Beating a team like Larissa with a score of 3-1 is always a nice thing. Sure, Larissa might not be at their best, but they are rarely an easy team to win against (I feel like I've said that many times already this season).

Kanellopoulos Donates His Shares of AEK!

AEK Archives 08 October @ 09:00 AM EST

Kanellopoulos has given his 13.5 % of shares to the amateur club so that they now have a 23.5 % share of the club. A pretty big share of the club indeed. Dimitris Hatzichristos as many of you will know is the head of the amateurs and Original21.

What will happen from this move nobody can say yet.

Xanthi 1-0 AEK

AEK Archives 06 October @ 09:40 AM EST

First off, the highlights:

AEKMAN74 posted a review earlier on this match which covered most of the main points so be sure to check that out as well. I'd just like to add a few things.

We lined up with Saja as keeper, Araujo, Arce, Majstorovic, and Georgeas (who played left back) playing defence, Hersi, Geurreiro, Jahic, and Manduca playing Midfield, with Scocco and Blanco playing attack.

AEK Triumph Over Benfica and Reignite Europa League Campaign

AEK Archives 02 October @ 12:22 PM EST

A resurgent AEK overcame a depressing 4-0 thrashing to Everton two weeks ago to grind out a surprising but deserved 1-0 victory over Portugeuese powerhouse club Benfica FC.

The night started dismally for AEK. Playing what I believe was a 4-2-3-1 with Saja in goal and Juanfran, Arce, Marjstorovic, and Gorgeas in the back, Kafes and Jahic in defensive midfield roles, Manduca, Scocco and Hersi forming a three-man attacking line and Blanco playing lone goal-poacher up top, AEK struggled for possession early on.

AEK 1-0 Benfica!!! Yep, thats right.

AEK Archives 01 October @ 04:54 PM EST

A huge win for us, absolutely incredible! So many good things to say, its going to take a while. I believe AEKBaltimore recorded the game since it was on in the US as well, so hopefully he will have some more comments as well.

First off, let me just repeat that once more. AEK 1-0 Benfica.

AEK 0-1 PAO

AEK Archives 28 September @ 11:01 AM EST

So, another derby lost. That makes it the first time we've lost two derbies in a row in about ten years. Not a good sign.

Not many positives to take from this game, both sides played some pretty poor football. I'm not going to bother writing much as there is little to say. Firstly, our forwards still can't score.

AEK 1-2 Olympiakos

AEK Archives 26 September @ 03:36 AM EST

Well, there has been quite a bit of discussion in the post AEKBaltimore put up. Since the match alot has happened, most regarding the horrendous officiating at the match. But first, a review.

For everyone who has been following AEK you know how incredibly unlucky we tend to be, especially when it matters most.

PAS Giannena 1-1 AEK

AEK Archives 20 September @ 11:43 AM EST

An extremely disappointing result today for AEK in Giannena.

Our starting lineup consisted of Saja, Araujo, Majstorovic, Arce, Juanfran, Hersi, Guerreiro, Jahic, Manduca, Nemeth, Pavlis.

I can't comment much on the first half since I could only watch the second half, but from what I heard we saw some decent passing from the team.

PAS Giannena-AEK Pre-Game Comments

AEK Archives 20 September @ 08:13 AM EST

Well, our match in Giannena starts in a little under an hour. Our most likely starting lineup is said to be Saja, Araujo, Majstorovic, Arce, Juanfran, Jahic, Guerreiro, Hersi, Manduca, Nemeth, and Blanco. We will be going 4-4-2 with Blanco and Nemeth up front. A good line-up in my opinion, very strong, with some experienced players.

AEK 1-0 Iraklis

AEK Archives 14 September @ 11:29 AM EST

Some important comments to mention about yesterday's match.

Firstly, our to team put on a good performance. Even now more can be improved on. but it was a solid game for the most part with some enjoyable football.

This is definately a good result. On paper, Iraklis are certainly not a pushover this year with some pretty impressive signings being made for them over the summer.

Iraklis Pre Game

AEK Archives 13 September @ 07:08 AM EST

So, our first home game of the season (after the match against Olympiakos was cancelled), and it could prove to be a fairly difficult one. Iraklis have a strong squad and I believe they have the potential to cause trouble to any team in the league.

Nonetheless, our squad is also strong as well now so I believe we can take the win.

Atromitos 0-1 AEK

AEK Archives 30 August @ 01:04 PM EST

We got the three points here. It wasn't a pretty three points but, at this point in time, I'll take them.

First, the video of our goal, set up beautifully by Nemeth.

Some good aspects to mention about our play today, but overall, it was not an impressive victory.

Our defence today was not the greatest, and Majstorovic and Juanfran in particular were quite poor.

AEK 3-0 Vaslui

AEK Archives 27 August @ 04:46 PM EST

First off, enjoy the video.

Well I posted my review in the comments section of the previous post by AEKBaltimore, but here it is again.

I was nervous about this one before it started but still I had the feeling we would get the win. And we did.

Firstly, as for the game, the team played wonderful football, especially compared to what we were seeing just last week.

Derby Cancelled

AEK Archives 23 August @ 01:46 PM EST

Due to the fires noetheast of Athens, the two matches in Attiki, the AEK-Olympiakos derby and the Panionios-PAOK match, have both been postponed.

It was unfortunate, as I was excited about the match, but it was a needed desicion. Hopefully, nobody will be killed by these fires, and I really hope it gets under control soon.

Press Roundup: Kyrgiakos to Liverpool, Tom Hicks Financial Woes, Vaslui Today, Olympiacos this Weekend, and More…

AEK Archives 20 August @ 10:37 AM EST

There are loads of articles out there in the interwebs today regarding Kyrgiakos' move to Liverpool. I'll just link to some of the more widely-read sources, such as the BBC and the Telegraph. TVNZ, a site I'd never visited before today but which boasts that it is the "Best Sports Site" according to Quantas Airlines, is reporting on a statement supposedly put out by Kyrgiakos apologizing to fans and clearing up confusion over remarks he made just a week earlier when he claimed he would not move to PAO and was going to play for AEK for Four years:

Liverpool new boy Sotiris Kyrgiakos has delivered a public apology to Greek fans after realising his lifelong dream.

AEK News

AEK Archives 30 June @ 04:18 PM EST

Vassilis Pliatsikas, who received some play time with Donis but little with Bajevic is no longer with AEK. Schalke have signed him for a price within the range of 300,000-400,000 euros. Its a good move for him, assuming he manages to impress and therefore earn some playing time. Greeks often seem to play quite well in Germany (Gekas, Liberopoulos, and many others) so hopefully he will play well there as well.

AEK News….. where do we start?

AEK Archives 03 June @ 10:07 AM EST

Well, we lost to PAO in the final game of the playoffs. AEKMAN74 posted a good review so there isn't too much to say about it. It was a bit unlucky but I must say that overall, PAO were the more solid team. We started great but that lasted about ten minutes.

This really could be viewed as a good thing.

Another Big Win Against PAOK

AEK Archives 20 May @ 03:20 PM EST

Yet another big win against our northern rivals, this time with a scoreline of 3-1.

Videos below:

It was a fairly confident win against PAOK this time with goals coming from Djebbour, Blanco, and Scocco. There were some questionable calls from the ref (including a red for PAOK, which I agree with but could have been avoided by PAOK) and some calls not made (including a hand ball from Kafes which wasn't called).

AEK News

AEK Archives 30 April @ 10:30 AM EST

Well, alot has been going on with this secret letter which was released earlier this week regarding the financial status of AEK. There is so much to say that it cannot all be discussed in here, and, unfortunately, there are no links in english that I can find relating to the story.

Basically, Melissanidis will have to take over soon or the team might not make it through this.

AEK 0-1 Aris

AEK Archives 12 April @ 03:57 PM EST

The final home game of the regular season ended in disappointment for AEK after they lost 1-0 to Aris, the first time Aris had gotten an away win against AEK since 1989.

Edinho started the match in the end, along side Blanco. Unfortunately, however, neither he nor Blanco could do much to get the ball in the net.

Edinho’s Future at AEK Uncertain

AEK Archives 10 April @ 10:48 AM EST

It looks like Edinho has gotten into yet another argument with AEK manager Dusan Bajevic. He will most likely be fined, and will possibly miss the next match. Bad timing for the Portuguese striker, after Djebbour's injury left the second attacking spot wide open for him.

We will have to wait until Sunday to see who will play along side Blanco, as AEK faces Bajevic's previous team, Aris.

AEK Archives 01 February @ 03:32 AM EST
This is it folks, the day we've all been waiting for. AEK 3-0 Panionios

AEK Archives 28 January @ 10:02 AM EST
An unbelievable performance by AEK led to a convincing 3-0 win over Panionios, giving AEK its third win a row. This is hard to believe, considering that just before last Saturday, AEK had not gotten one back to back win yet this season. One goal from Blanco, one from Edinho, and one from Scocco was enough [. After a month and five days AEK managed to clinch their first win and gain a long awaited for three points. Levadeiakos 0-0 AEK

AEK Archives 01 December @ 12:21 PM EST
AEK's poor away form, as many fans feared, has continued with little improvement. AEK drew away with Levadeiakos who currently sit in 11th position with 13 points. Despite hitting the post three times throughout the match neither Djebbour or Blanco could score. AEK were handed a chance to salvage the three points in extra time after [. OFI Crete vs. AEK Athens Match Report (1-1)

AEK Archives 23 November @ 12:33 PM EST
In our first match under newly-apointed manager Dusan Bajevic (who has served as AEK manager twice before, once for a long trophy-laden run in the 90s and once for just two months in 2004), we struggled for a draw away against OFI Crete today.
