Where has the filling gone for Home United "sandwich" ??"Two pieces of toasts without fillings in
the middle" as what it sums up Home United performance in their season curtain-raiser against
defending S.League champions Tampines Rovers in the Charity Shield match at JBS.
The void left by Valery Hiek was clearly illustrated in the goal conceded in less than five minute
how the once stout brick-like Protectors' defense was fully exploited by Stags' new signing Davor
Piskor with not follow up from Lionel Lewis' narrowing of angle from near distance.

I guess with the SLeague title to be decided tonight, probably at Tampines Stadium, many people
decided not to bother about a meaningless game between Tanjong Pagar and Hougang United. Which was
a bad move when you consider Hougang are never involved in dull games.
The Big Cat Derby! Jaguars and Cheetahs at a field in Clementi that looked like the Serengeti
after a herd of gnus had tried fording a river.
Picture tells a THOUSAND words....Decent first half defensive display by the Lions until the sucker
punch that came in the 42nd minute to see the well placed grounder by Yu Hai (pictured below
foreground) to give the Chinese the headstart before end of the first period.
As what they always said in football that conceding a goal at this juncture of any game would have
a psychological demoralizing effect on team that conceded that goal.
"MINI MANILA"I'm not sure how that sentiment started in the first place, but judging by the posting plastered
online and heard from the grapevine, it seems that JBS would turn out become a "mini Manila" for
the friendly fixture between Singapore and The Philippines.
True enough that majority turned out for the game were the expat Filipinos.

Apparently the Iraqis did not play like as what suggested by some being "kids' footballers"
following the remark on the artificial surface of the Jalan Besar Stadium by their coach, Zico
prior to the match.
In fact, the visiting side looked fairly comfortable on the plastic surface with much of the
attacking play by them in the first half.
SINGAPORE, 25 August 2011: Thailand and Singapore played out a goalless draw in an
International Friendly on 24 August 2011 at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok,
Thailand.
It was an important match for both nations as they prepare to take on Australia and China
respectively on the 2nd of September 2011, in the Asian Zone World Cup Qualifiers.
I have been overlooking the bread and butter over the last week; time now for an SLeague
update!

At the final whsitle (from TV screen)
Just because it caused my irregular heart beat with the tempo of the match swing up and down.
It was definitely a sign of relief to see the referee blew the final whistle to signal the end of
the match amid a tense atmosphere at the 80,000 Bukit Jalil Stadium.
The crazy scoreline had protruded the leaky defensive woes facing both Singapore and Malaysia in
this much-anticipated "Causeway Derby" for the ticket to the group stages of the Asian World Cup
Qualification.
"Farra" scored in the 44th minute to make it 3-1 to Singapore It was virtually a game of two halves
with Singapore shackled off the early scare for letting the Malaysians to score in the first minute
through dangerman Safee Sali by walloped four goals in reply from Aleksandar Duric, Qiu Li,
Fahrudin Mustafic and Shi Jiayi before the end of first half.
Been looking forward to this game ever since the World Cup Qualifiers were announced a few months
back. OK, Malaysia had to overcome a tricky Chinese Taipei first but they did so and now we have
it.
Singapore are one of the most successful teams in the history of Malaysian football, as Chairman
Mao would have said the neighbours are like lips and teeth.
SINGAPORE, 18 July 2011: Singapore defeated Chinese-Taipei 3-2 at the Jalan Besar
Stadium just days before they march back onto the very same pitch for the 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP
BRAZIL™ ASIAN QUALIFIERS ROUND TWO Match against Malaysia.
The game got off to a slow start and steadily picked up pace with both teams looking to break
the deadlock.
The Singapore team bench before the kick-offI did something I seldom do during a football match -
switch side ... in order to get some shots from stocking my archive.
We were told to confine ourselves to a small white perimeter box located at the far corner of the
field that to our dismay with much of action taken place on the opposite flank.
While waiting for a friend outside Jalan Besar Stadium, I saw a car slowed down along the way.
"Tiket bola mana?" asked the driver of the Johor licensed plate vehicle in Malay, as he would like
to know where could he buy the tickets for the 2014 World Cup Qualifier match between Singapore and
Malaysia.
Another exciting week of football in Singapore and I've missed it all so here is the table and top
scorers. Hopefully normal service will resume next week.

I don't want to sound patronising but what's happening at the bottom of the SLeague is almost as
exciting as what is happening at the top.
As I said a few days back the SLeague is already shaping into another classic season and I am
really looking forward to my next visit there. Dunno when mind!
These are the results of recent days I have missed. There have been some changes to the schedule
and I don't have the latest one so am kind of in the dark on what's on the horizon!

Prelude...
I'm not being unprofessional for placing this uncompleted team shot of the visiting Hanoi T & T
(pictured above) before the start of their AFC Cup match against Tampines Rovers, as their star
striker Le Cong Vinh abruptly left the field to have his boots changed before the shot was taken
(much to our "disappointment").
It hasn't been much of a season for Young Lions in the SLeague so far. They have just one win and
three goals from their opening eight games. The early season circus of Pele etc has been forgotten
as the season has now become one defeat after another; the latest coming in the last minute against
title challengers Home United.

Having saw what he tweeted in the first place, I prompted Mr Neo Chee Seong (who contributed an
article last month) to come up with his list of players to fill up the vacuum after the disband of
the Singapore National Team.
Many thanks to Mr Neo for sharing his views on this issue.
Potential Players with Merits to be selected for Singapore National Squad.
