You might have caught wind of reports that the Portland Timbers were getting ready to sign 20
year-old left back Juan David Duque out of Colombia. Stumptown Footy had solid looking reports up
on January 25 and February 1. Here we are on February 8 though and still no Juan David Duque inking
a deal.
The Seattle Sounders have added a PDL team to their youth development program, partnering with
the Tacoma Tide and rebranding the team as Sounders FC U-23. The team will be coached by current
Sounders academy director Darren Sawatzky and play somewhere in Pierce County, although a permanent
home has not yet been determined.
Roaring Royal A few months late, this video has risen to prominence after being spotted by the
Birmingham Mail. It shows Aston Villa fan Prince William appearing to let out a hysterical laugh
when asked about Alex McLeish on the day the former Birmingham boss took charge at Villa Park last
August. The Duke of [.
Dynamo still negotiating with Ibeagha
In this report for Fox Soccer regarding various news and notes from the MLS SuperDraft, Ives
Galarcep reported the following: "The Houston Dynamo continue to negotiate with Academy product
and US Under-23 national team defender Sebastian Ibeagha but have yet to reach an agreement with
the Duke standout.
No. 1 selection Andrew WengerU.S. Soccer Communications
U.S. Under-23 defender and U.S. Soccer Development Academy alum Andrew Wenger out of Duke was the
top selection by the Montreal Impact during Thursday's MLS SuperDraft held at the NSCAA Convention
in Kansas City. Three of the first five selections in the draft had Development Academy ties.

After some back and forth this morning, the Montreal Impact held on to their number one pick and
took Duke defender/midfielder Andrew Wenger.
Wenger should come in right away and be a starter for this expansion club.
The MLS SuperDraft is Thursday, Jan. 12 and for a few players in camp, it's the day they could
finally realize a childhood dream of turning professional. Two players in camp have had their name
tossed around in the various mock drafts building up to tomorrow's big event in Kansas City.
Defender Andrew Wenger out of Duke traveled to the Midwest to be a part of the proceedings and
forward Kelyn Rowe out of UCLA will be watching events unfold from his hotel room here in Southern
California.
Oh SuperDraft Eve. You have to love the excitement surrounding a draft.
So many things can happen though between now and tomorrow afternoon. Teams will be wheeling and
dealing all night in hopes of either moving up in the draft, finding some decent talent outside the
draft in a trade, or just hoping that the one special player you've had your eye on since December
is still available.
U.S. Under-23 defender Andrew Wenger, who was called in once again to the U-23s this month for
training in Carson, Calif., is also taking home some collegiate hardware on the side.
The junior out of Duke won the Hermann Trophy on Friday, an honor that is given to the top NCAA
Division I soccer players.
Duke standout Andrew Wenger and Stanford senior Teresa Noyola were named winners of the Hermann
Trophy on Saturday in recognition of being the top players in Division I NCAA soccer.
Wenger, who signed a Generation Adidas contract after a stellar junior year at Duke, led the ACC
with 17 goals and eight assists.
The Hermann Trophy winners announced Friday night in St. Louis had something going for them:
precedent. Senior midfielder Teresa Noyola is the third Stanford player in as many years to win the
women's trophy; Duke junior forward Andrew Wenger followed in the footsteps of his head coach, John
Kerr, who won the men's trophy while [.
Omar Salgado contributed a goal and an assist during the Blue team's 3-3 tie against the
Reds.
As part of its first training camp of the new year, the Under-20 Men's National Team played an
intrasquad scrimmage yesterday. The game ended in a 3-3 tie between the Red and Blue teams, three
goals coming on each side of the half.

The 2012 Generation adidas class is a little more than half way there. Before Christmas we had
Darren Mattocks (Akron), Chandler Hoffman (UCLA), Andrew Wenger (Duke) and Sam Garza (UCSB) sign
their GA deals with the league. It appears one more can be added to that list in the form of UCLA
midfielder Kelyn Rowe.
We told you it was coming, and here it is (no Teal Bunbury visit to Bolton now?). Olympic boss
Caleb Porter is now on the job and has summoned 28 players to Florida pre-Christmas. There are
several new faces, including Freddy Adu, Will Bruin, two keepers fresh off EPL training visits a
pair of Duke players and the re-emergence of Bryan Arguez.

Teresa Noyola scored from point-blank range Sunday to help top-ranked Stanford beat No. 3 Duke
1-0 and give the Cardinal their first NCAA women's soccer title after three consecutive attempts.
It was the perfect finish to Stanford's unbeaten season.
Stanford seniors Noyola, Camille Levin, Kristy Zuhmehlen and Lindsay Taylor finished their
college careers with a record of 95-4-4.
Stanford and Duke advanced to Sunday's national championship game of the NCAA Women's College Cup
with three-goal victories in both semifinals on Friday night. Stanford defeated Florida State 3-0
in the first match, and Duke ran out 4-1 victors over Wake Forest. This year's College Cup was
located at Kennesaw State University's new soccer-specific stadium, about 30 minutes northwest of
downtown Atlanta.
After pounding ACC tournament champion Florida State 3-0 on Friday night in the first
semifinal of the College Cup, Stanford has a chance to play once again for the national title.
The Cardinal advanced to soccer's version of the Final Four by completing its third straight
unbeaten season, a feat that parallels the great University of North Carolina teams with Mia Hamm
in the early 1990s.
The NCAA Women's College Cup, taking place this weekend at Kennesaw State Stadium in Kennesaw
will be the first NCAA soccer championship held in Georgia since 1968. And one thing is for
certain there will be a first-time national champion crowned at this year's NCAA final.
All four College Cup teams were seeded first in their respective brackets, and include three
ACC schools—Wake Forest, Duke and Florida State—and two-time NCAA runner-up Stanford, making
its fourth consecutive College Cup appearance.
Well this is going to piss off some Dynamo fans. Just days after protecting Bobby Boswell in the
expansion draft, the Dynamo declined his 2012 contract option. They could of course be hoping to
re-sign Boswell at a lower wage, but I doubt this is going to sit well with fans after the loss of
Brian Ching, who was left exposed in the expansion draft.
Stanford, Florida State, Wake Forest, and Duke -- all #1 seeds in the NCAA Division I Women's
Soccer championship tournament -- advanced to the Women's College Cup as semifinalists this
weekend. On Friday night Stanford overcame Oklahoma State 2-1 after extra time to complete an
unbeaten home record by the graduating seniors and continue a 50-match winning streak in Palo Alto.
*Long Beach State's best-ever season has ended after a loss to Duke Friday in North
Carolina.
*The UCLA men remain alive in the thid round of the NCAA Tournament, however, and host Rutgers
Sunday at Drake Stadium.

CHICAGO -- Eclipse Select Soccer Club alumna and Duke junior midfielder Nicole Lipp (Lake Forest,
Ill./Lake Forest) assisted both of her team's goals as the Blue Devils defeated Ohio State, 2-1, on
Sunday to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
Duke had to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit, and Lipp stepped up in the 54th minute as she took a
free kick from the right side and found the feet of freshman Kelly Cobb to tie the score at 1-1.

And were will it take us?
The conference tournaments are done and most teams have finished their seasons, but a select few
now move on to the NCAA Tournament to take a shot at a national title. The bracket was announced
this afternoon and it comes as no surprise that multiple Sounders Academy players will be on the
field when the tournament kicks off this week.

I know I've been slacking on my college coverage as of late. But have no fear, my SuperDraft
items will really start to kick up in the coming weeks with the start of the NCAA tournament next
week.
Seattle Sounders Academy alumni Nick Palodichuk and Sean Okoli each performed well in their
freshmen years of college both gaining individual recognition by their conference. Palodichuk, with
Duke, is surrounded by talent (Andrew Wenger will be #1 pick in MLS Draft if signed). The Blue
Devil's are 22nd by RPI holding a 10-6-2 record, and advanced to the Atlantic Coast Conference
semifinals.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Brian Span (So., Somers, N.Y.) scored the golden goal with
20 seconds remaining in double overtime to propel the fourth-seeded Virginia men's soccer team to a
4-3 victory over fifth-seeded Wake Forest Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the 2011 ACC
Tournament at Klöckner Stadium.
Yet another busy weekend in the Virginia college soccer world as October came to a close. Take a

While many MLS fans are caught up in the excitement of the playoffs, there are plenty of fans
who have seen their teams already eliminated and who are already thinking toward the future.
High on the lists of things to think about is the 2012 MLS Draft, which is about ten weeks
away.
Three Key Matches In Final Round Of Euro 2012 Qualifying - originally posted on
Soccerlens.com
After more than a year of matches, the group stage of UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying is down to its
final two matchdays. Co-hosts Poland and Ukraine, reigning European and world champions Spain,
Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands are all set for next summer's tournament, but by Tuesday
evening, we'll know who the other six automatic qualifiers are, along with the eight sides who'll
duke it out in two-legged playoffs in November for the final four spots.
The story of this week is Yedlin, who continues to be a huge factor as a freshman on one of the
top teams in the country. Sounders are also popping up on some of the best Division 2 teams in the
country.

#4 Akron - DeAndre Yedlin
(9/24 - 3-0 W @ Tulsa Assist), (9/28 - 3-1 W v Ohio St Goal)
As we noted last week, Yedlin has involved himself in a goal in every game the undefeated Zips
have played this season other than their one scoreless draw.
The race for the Big Ten championship is just starting out, but early indications are that
Indiana has every intention of regaining its place as the conference's premier program.
The No. 7 Hoosiers sent a big messsage on Friday by knocking off Penn State in their Big Ten
opener, posting a 1-0 victory to stay unbeaten on the season.
Duke couldn't have started its ACC Conference showdown with Virginia any worse, and also
couldn't have finished it any worse.
Virginia saw a second-minute goal from midfielder Brian Span open the scoring and give the
Cavaliers the only lead it would need. Duke fought bravely in the second half, and outplayed the
visiting Cavs in the second 45 minutes, but wasted chances doomed Duke to a 1-0 loss.
Former Duke All-American forward Mike Grella has joined Brentford of League One (third
division).
In 42 league and cup matches matches for Leeds, Grella scored five goals – three of them in the
FA Cup – and played another 18 matches (four goals) on loan to Carlisle United and Swindon Town.
The first all-MLS battle of the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League takes place at BMO Field, as
FC Dallas and Toronto FC do battle for first place in Group C (8 p.m., Fox Soccer
Channel/Galavision).
Both teams won their group openers, with Dallas becoming the first MLS team to win on Mexican
soil by beating Pumas UNAM and Toronto winning in Panama with a 1-0 decision over Tauro.
Skysports.com understands Hull are closing in on the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Peter
Gulacsi.
Hull are in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements with Matt Duke leaving the club and Brad
Guzan returning to Aston Villa following the expiration of his loan stint.
Gulacsi admitted earlier this summer he was likely to leave Liverpool on loan and it appears Hull
is ready to take him to the KC Stadium on a season-long deal.
Obviously, since it's June and all and we're already one month since Barca's Wembley victory.
Time to turn the page.
Champions from continental powerhouses Andorra, Luxembourg, Malta and The Most Serene Republic
of San Marino duke it out for the right to be bludgeoned mercilessly in the next round.
Panama through Luis Tejada and Gabriel Gomez go 2 up before Clarence Goodson pulls one back. The
Panamanians secure a spot in the knock out stage while the USA will duke it out with Canada for the
second spot after their neighbours to the north won against Guadeloupe . It was the USA's first
ever loss in the Gold Cup group stage - an unbeaten streak of 26 matches coming to a screaming
halt.
When you watch a match between two teams that you loathe, you realise just how tough being a
neutral really is. Both United and Barcelona get hateful passions a burnin' in me and it was quite
tough for me to decide which contingent to make silly faces at. In the end, I came to two startling
conclusions.
Congratulations are in order for U.S. U-18 MNT midfielder Luis Rendon, who was named the 2011
Gatorade Player of the Year by The Gatorade Company and ESPN RISE last week. Rendon, who is
currently with the U-18s in Portugal, and earned an assist in today's 1-1 draw against the
Netherlands and has been part of the U-18 pool since late 2010.
