Mike Cockerill: He's not sodding God

Football in the Capital 08 August @ 07:14 PM EST
Robbie Fowler was only ever God to a small group of Scousers based in their native Liverpool.
Did Everton fans think he was God?
Did Man United fans?
Did Wigan, Sunderland, Torquay, Burton Albion, or Newport County?
Not to mention every fan from Sydney to Sao Paolo, Dortmund to Dubai. Click to continue reading...

Have you ever seen a Makem in Iran?

Newcastle United Blog - NUFC news, blogs and debate. 30 July @ 02:45 PM EST
(Recently that is....) Just how sneaky and devious can the Makems really be? For instance, could they have infiltrated Iranian media to spread malicious rumours and create a second take-over hoax? I imagine the search keys 'Sirous Mahjoob' and 'Toon takeover' and the F5 key have been seriously hammered today. Click to continue reading...

I Hate Dalport … And Now Villa is Gone? UGGH!

The Offside: Valencia 09 July @ 10:31 AM EST

Anyone else as tired of all this Dalport Investments business as I am?

According to various web reports and comments on my previous post, Dalport Investments is really a lingerie company.
Don't believe me? Take a look for yourself.

Of course, they're saying all the right things after being cornered by a Canal Nou TV reporter outside their Madrid 'headquarters' yesterday .

Talk of the Toon is cheap

Footy/Soccer Blog 08 June @ 03:59 PM EST

Newcastle United have confirmed that the now-Championship club is up for sale at a knock-down price of £100 million.

It's no surprise that Mike Ashley wants to sell - he's been trying to wash his hands of the club he loves for months, but has been unsuccessful.

It is said former Chairman, Freddy Shepherd, is among several interested parties - he'll probably be welcomed back with open arms after the mere disastrous period that Ashley has presided over.

After the dowdy draw againt China on Friday, Germany defeated the UAE 7-2 in Dubai on their second and last stop of the Asia trip on Tuesday. As suspected, it was a better training game, the only notable aspects were Schalke's Manuel Neuer who debuted in the German goal and showed a strong and solid effort.

More news form the local papers in Newcastle, and this afternoon's Chronicle is saying there may be some interest in Dubai. Competitive assholes, No.1: Michael Owen

Center Holds It 17 April @ 07:10 AM EST
Michael Owen has a reputation as being a charmless dullard with the personality of a cupboard. In addition to that, and like so many professional sportsmen, he is a competitive asshole – the sort of fist-pumping competitive asshole who hates to lose at anything, even if it's just a kickabout with his son in his back garden. Are Newcastle Worth £483 million?

The Offside 18 September @ 10:14 AM EST
I don't know much about selling. But I'm pretty sure that setting your price too high and then drinking cocktails instead of meeting with potential Middle Eastern buyers isn't the way to go. So it doesn't look like Mike Ashley will be selling Newcastle anytime soon. Apparently Ashley and his entourage (Dennis Wise, Derek Llambias [. Click to continue reading...

The Offside - Olympique Lyonnais 25 May @ 01:41 PM EST

No word yet on Lyon's pre-season schedule, but that's to be expected because half our players will be involved in either Euro 2008 (looking at all the Lyon players spread throughout the Euro 2008 squads, one of them better return as a tournament winner) or FIFA World Cup qualifying. The players that will remain behind will be traveling to Dubai next week to help Al Shabab football club celebrate their 50th anniversary.
