So we are facing Real Salt Lake for the Eastern Conference Semis, even though RSL isn't from the
East! I know it is kinda oxymoronic, but the system has worked for the MLS in the past when one
Conference (cough cough, the East last year) is completely dominant over the other. Either way,
both teams got here in dramatic fashion.

What a difference a week makes. After having romped to victory over bitterest rivals Man Utd at
Anfield, somewhat taking the heat off "in-the-firing-line" manager Benitez, Liverpool have
themselves imploded in dramatic fashion against a team in the Premier League which, it must be
said, don't do much to speed up the process of the paint drying.

Britain isn't the only country in which football clubs are prone to occasional financial
collapse. Paul Grech, from the Italian football blog Il Re Calcio, writes on the rise, fall, rise
and fall again of the Italian club Pisa AC.
For a city that has been made famous by its gravity defying leaning tower, there's a bit of
irony in Pisa AC's penchant for tragic and spectacular crashes.

Unbelievable. Who would have expected that?
The European Champions were humbled by the United States in the semi final of the Confederations
Cup, with the Spanish beaten for the first time since 2006.
Spain just ran completely out of gas in Bloemfontein tonight, and the USA just took their chances
to win this encounter taking the lead after 26 minutes, when Jozy Altidore was realeased by Clint
Dempsey and the striker shot low, but Casillas, although got a hand to it, could not keep it out.

Oliver Kay of the Times wrote a piece today that talks of the way Manchester United's run to glory
this season looks to mirror the dramatic fashion that Sir Matt Busby's Manchester United teams had
years ago.
Every successful title campaign has a defining moment. Think back to Arsenal's Premier League
triumph in 1998 and it was crowned by the sight of Tony Adams marauding forward to score a goal
against Everton that typified their enlightenment under Arsène Wenger. Click to continue reading...

Liverpool went out of the Champions League tonight in dramatic fashion.
Needing to overhaul a 3-1 defeat at Anfield they got off to the perfect start with a great free
kick by Aurelio.
They then got a penalty when Alonso was fouled in the box, he coolly smashed the ball home to make
it 2-0 at half-time and the dream looked on.

First a little history, 23 weeks ago, I was still waiting on my son to arrive, Barrack Obama and
Hilary Clinton were still fighting for the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillcrest Road was
still scheduled to begin building in the summer, and the Wizards won their last road game. Who
would have thought that with only 1 road game left this season, that the Wizards only road win
would come in Chicago, a place they've notoriously had trouble winning at.

There was an interesting comment posted on this blog earlier;
‘top 4 and cl football is now near impossible by the way....now that the top 4 has become the
top 5'.
The thought crossed my mind yesterday when I heard City were being bought out but it stopped
crossing and just sat bang in my head once Berbatov and Robinho came into the picture.

The week before the transfer window closes is always a busy one. This year it slammed shut on the
evening of September 1. Clubs had to buy players before then or they are doomed to wait until
January before they can add to their rosters. It can be frantic.
That wasn't the case for South Korean players until last week – it had been quiet, too quiet.

Eboue has turned into a figure of ridicule at Arsenal, he has fallen from grace in a dramatic
fashion. He has lost his rightback position to Sagna, laboured at right wing last season, and
now is threatening to make the central midfield position his own. Wenger has a mild form of
myopia when it comes [.

And so, it begins. The offseason, if we even had one, is now officially over. EPL clubs are back at
it, the Champions League qualifiers are in the final round and the hottie interns have left the
office to return to campus. The signs, in other words, are everywhere: summer is ending. But don't
be sad.
