There is plenty of high-profile soccer going on around the world this Wednesday, but perhaps no
games carry as much significance as the two African Cup of Nations semifinals. Ivory Coast and
Ghana took care of business in the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals with matching 3-0
victories, and all that stands in the way of a star-studded tournament final is one more win for
each team.

Sudan entered Monday's African Cup of Nations group finale needing a minor miracle to get
through to the next round, trailing Angola by three points for second place in Group B while
needing to make up a goal differential of -3 as well.

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations got underway this past weekend, and co-hosts Equatorial Guinea

Twelfth, eleventh, thirteenth. Stoke City start their fourth season in the Premier League having
been a model of consistency during their time back in the top flight, but this season will bring
new challenges that the club has not faced before. The club's run in the FA Cup came to frame their
season but, even though they ended that run at Wembley with a defeat at the hands of Manchester
City, their reward came with City's fourth place finish in the Premier League, all of which meant
that Stoke City would go on to play in this season's Europa League.
More information is coming out about Jeret Peterson's suicide. The three-time Olympic athlete
was arrested in his home state of Idaho last week and was charged with driving under the influence
and speeding. Additionally, before Jeret Peterson killed himself, he alerted the police of his
location.
It's a sad end to an athlete who brought a silver medal home to the United States in the 2010
Winter Olympics.
Aurelien Collin came up big Saturday night
Sporting KC ran its MLS unbeaten streak to 11 in dramatic fashion Saturday night. Aurelien
Collin scored in the 90th minute to save a 1-1 tie on the road against the Houston Dynamo.
Sporting KC fought uphill all game after Houston's Brad Davis scored in the 8th minute.
