Why Downing needs to deliver at Chelsea, England will wilt when the heat is on and you
need to lump on Germany
Most Liverpool fans will have been as frustrated as they were pleased to see Stewart Downing
prove, in an England shirt, that he's a £20million player. Because he's yet to set Anfield
alight.
It's 26 days until MLS Cup kicks off at Carson's Home Depot Center.
While Galaxy fans ponder the news that a French club is reportedly printing up thousands of
David Beckham T-shirts in anticipation of his arrival and monitor the progress of the injured
Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, the MLS playoffs start tonight.
If you haven't heard already there's some heartbreaking news out of Dallas this morning: FC Dallas
announcer & former player Bobby Rhine passed away yesterday after suffering a heart attack. He was
35 years-old.
My introduction to MLS was a Dallas Burn – Tampa Bay Mutiny match at the Cotton Bowl during my
college years in 1998.

I think a reality check is needed and between us we should try to fathom out what is going wrong
at the club. Figures don't lie and we have won just 2 of our last 13 PL games, which would have
been inconceivable in February. Fabregas leaving is going to be a huge miss, and though not
replaceable like for like we have had the best part of this year knowing he would leave to find
another player as a world-class playmaker.
Michael Beasley is one of the most emotionally unstable players in the NBA. So when he decided
to play some streetball in NYC, that quickly became a bad idea. Fans, knowing Michael Beasley has a
few screws loose, heckled him all night. Eventually, Michael Beasley went Michael Beasley and
punched a fan in the face.

Match Report: Cologne 1-2 Arsenal
So now that we have the far-east hand shaking junket out of the way, Arsenal fans could be
justified in feeling that this is where the serious stuff begins. After all, Arsène Wenger said so
himself.

GOALS FINALLY FLOWING FOR UNIONOne of six times Union celebrated on Saturday.Every time someone has dared praise Philadelphia Union this year, it's been met with the same
opposition - "it won't last" and "they can't score goals". Well guess what? It is lasting, and the
goals are beginning to flow.
The picture of Neil Lennon booting a bottle of water during Celtic's defeat to Inverness spoke
volumes.
Which of his underperforming players was he metaphorically kicking up the backside?
Was this Celtic's bottle crashing?
Football teams often play badly. They often choose the worst game to show themselves at their
worst.
Big loveable One Michael Dawson popped up on Spurs TV this week to spout the line that he and
everyone else pattering away with bibs and cones within the confines of Spurs Lodge are dead
confident, honest, of making the Top Four this season. I suspect that anyone viewing the footage
particularly closely would be struck by the sight of his nose growing longer and longer with each
diphthong uttered, but bless him, who amongst us has not had to tow the company line from time to
time?
Things would've turned out VERY differently had Ronaldo scored in the couple of chances he had
in the first half. It's one thing to lose to team like Barca (regardless of the score), much
less THIS Barca... or losing a Champions League tie to a team with some form of European Pedigree.
Ahead of our big FA CUP clash at Goodison Park tomorrow here is the view from

As an Evertonian I am in no way looking forward to this game. Things off the pitch are taking over
for us at the minute. We are absolutely skint, will not (by the looks of it) be making any
additions to the squad.
Celtic 4 - Hearts 0Is that it then? Did Hearts title challenge amount to little more than a scrappy
win over Rangers and three days of hope before a meek capitulation against Celtic?
That's how it will play in today's papers.
Maybe we were all a bit guilty of being overly optimistic.
