The US returns to World Cup Qualification to take on their toughest Group A rivals Jamaica. It's
the first of a doubleheader against the Reggae Boyz with the return leg in 4 days in Columbus. A
win in Kingston would be the most important result in group play as it'd put the US in comfortable
position to win the group.
This is not a prediction of who Coach Klinsi will summon for the Jamaica doubleheader in just a
couple hours, it's who I would call. G - Howard, GuzanD - Cherundolo, Parkhurst, Goodson,
Bocanegra, Lichaj, Castillo D/M -Â Cameron, SpectorM - Edu, Jones, Diskerud, Kljestan, Feilhaber,
Dempsey, DavisA - Altidore, Boyd, Wondolowski, Johnson, Shea, Gatt -- A few notes: - Starters in
boldface.
For those interested in ratings (and I assume that most that read this website are), here is a
great look at the ratings bounce MLS has enjoyed over the last few weeks on the NBC Sports
Network. The numbers are fairly impressive and the trend is significant. After the Olympics are
over, I will have a more in depth look at the impact of NBC on the presentation and promotion of
the league, but suffice to say, NBC has been impressive in all aspects of their soccer
delivery.
Thank Gooodness It's Friday, am I right? And what a week it has been for the New England
Revolution. Captain traded away midweek, star striker gets arrested and tries to use the old "I'm a
famous athlete" defense before finding out that being an MLS athlete in New England makes you about
as famous as the Brazilian national curling team, and there's still a massively important game
ahead on the weekend.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. With Cruzeiro dropping out of the August 4 doubleheader at Gillette Stadium,
Honduras club C.D. Olimpia has been tabbed as the replacements to face Italian giants A.C. Milan.
The friendly match will kick off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular season MLS match of the New
England Revolution vs.
Thursday afternoon, it was announced that Italian club AC Milan will face off against Brazilian
powerhouse Cruziero as part of a special doubleheader being held at Gillette Stadium.
The match will take place on August 4th, with the clubs kicking off at 4:30 EST. Following this
match will be the previously-scheduled game between the New England Revolution and Sporting KC.
Before we take a look at MLS attendance from the weekend, a quick note on our "new" look. The
front page of Footiebusiness has been revamped to (hopefully) make things easier to navigate.Â
After more than three years with the same front page, it was time to make a few changes.Â
Hopefully it will be easier to access the Footiebusiness Twitter feed and soccer links while still
providing access to the site's content.
It may only be a preseason tournament, but come Saturday the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson,
Ariz., is still serving up two of the stronger rivalries in MLS.
The Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake will face off in a rematch of last year's Western
Conference final at 8 p.
At Thursday night's Supporters' Summit, New England Revolution President Brian Bilello mentioned
the team was working on a doubleheader for Revs' home opener on March 24th.
It now appears, according to multiple reports, that the Canadian Women's National Team and the
Brazilian Women's National Team will face off on that same date at Gillette Stadium in a friendly
match to prepare for the 2012 London Olympics, presumably as the second game in that Gillette
Stadium doubleheader .
The Americans start group play against France at historic Hampden Park, the only Scottish venue
for the Summer Games. One can barely move around in London without noticing something that has to
do with the Olympics, but the buzz in Glasgow just isn't the same. Some 37,000 fans are expected
for the U.
The U.S. Under-23 men's national team's hopes of reaching the 2012 Olympics have been dealt a
serious blow.
Two days after routing Cuba, the Americans suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat to Canada at LP Field
in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday night in their second Group A match. Both goals came in the second
half off of corner kicks, with Donell Henry and Lucas Cavallini scoring after defensive mistakes
from the United States.
The U.S. Under-23 men's national team is one of the favorites to qualify for this summer's
Olympics, and it lived up to its reputation by starting Olympic qualifying in emphatic fashion.
Led by three goals from midfielder Joe Corona, the United States cruised to a 6-0 victory in its
Group A opener against 10-man Cuba at LP Field in Nasvhille, Tenn.
In an interesting little wrinkle, the almighty schedule makers crafted a nice back-to-back matchup
between the New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire.
On Wednesday afternoon, Thierry Henry helped lead the Red Bulls to a 1-0 win against the Fire at
Red Bull Arena with a spectacular finish inside the box.
Traditionally, Independence Day is a big event for Major League Soccer, with fireworks
extravaganzas, big crowds and big publicity. Last year, the league's broadcast partners joined
the fun, with a crammed schedule of nationally telecast games. Fox Soccer started things off at
7:00 on Saturday with a live broadcast from RFK.
D.C. United will play Serie A champions Juventus at RFK Stadium on Saturday July 28. Kickoff is
set for 6pm (might be changed for TV). Tickets go on sale next week.
This game was originally planned as part of a doubleheader at FedEx Field, with the other game
supposed to be AC Milan v Chelsea.
MLS attendance has soared at the start of this 2012 season, with a leaguewide average of 21,107
fans per match.
This number has been bolstered by the Montreal Impact's first MLS home game- which drew 58,912 to
the Olympic Stadium- setting an attendance record for pro soccer in the Canadian city.
PORTLAND RAIN SC (3-1-2, 11pts.) will host ISSAQUAH SC (3-1-1, 10 pts.) tomorrow

signing of Grover Gibson as a player and Assistant Coach for the 2012 season.

The Mexican Under-23 national team is off to a flying start in Olympic qualifying.
Mexico kicked off its quest to reach the Summer Games in London with a 7-1 thrashing of Trinidad
and Tobago in a Group B match at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
The Goonies from the South Bay are taking their 2012 US Open Cup run on the road, by only a few
miles. In fact this will be their third straight home match at a non-standard facility for the San
Jose Earthquakes. Tonight's 7:30 PM match (radio 97.3FM & audio stream for Seattle, video stream
from San Jose) will be at Kezar Stadium.
Brek Shea led the U.S. Under-23 men's national team to victory in their final tuneup before
Olympic qualifying, scoring two goals in a 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks.
Shea scored his brace against the NASL club in the first half of the closed-door scrimmage
played at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn.
Thanks to a reckless red card to Benitez, a lucky goal from Bruin, a Moffat laser shot, and
some luck Houston beats F.C. Frisco and retains El Capitan. (Houston Dynamo)
"While Dallas' runners were finding space behind the Dynamo defense, Houston eventually got a
hold on the pace of the game.
With the return of the Bundesliga, we have pretty much a full slate of European football this week.
For those of you with a South America fetish, we even have some Brazilian futebol since the State
Leagues are returning to action.
The highlight of the weekend, though, has to be Sunday's Premier League doubleheader, when
City/Spurs is followed by Gunners/United.
Fox Soccer has been promoting this Sunday Premier League games as "Epic Sunday,'' for once this is
not over hype. The doubleheader of Manchester City vs. Spurs and Manchester United vs. Arsenal will
go a long way toward telling us who will be lifting the trophy in May.
A City win in the early game and a Arsenal win in the late game could all but end the title race.
