MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - If Oguchi Onyewu's recent string of performances for Sporting Lisbon
wasn't a sign that he's getting back to top form, his outing against Honduras likely was.
U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann his first win at the helm of the United States as a Clint
Dempsey goal was all that the US needed to beat Honduras in rainy Miami.
Tim Howard earned Budweiser Man of the Match honors, posting six saves en route to his 37th
victory. With the win, Howard moves into a second-place tie with fellow New Jersey native Tony
Meola on the USA's all-time win list for goalkeepers.
Stuart Holden has suffered an injury setback in his recovery from the badly broken and lacerated
knee he incurred last spring. No word on the exact nature of the new injury but it will require
surgery and another 6 weeks of rehab. Damn!

So, after our incredible win only five days earlier people were expecting similar things from
last nights game. We thought we were going to get it also after building a healthy 3-1 lead with
plenty of time left. The final score? 3-3
One thing was to blame for this result more than anything else.
So, AEK has been on the news all day, and everyday, for the past few days. The reason why? It
looks like two Cypriot investors (the identities have not yet been revealed) are going to invest a
large sum of money. I can't remember the exact details but I believe one of the Cypriot investors
will be investing seven million euros, another will invest two million, and the shareholders
already with AEK will add another six million, meaning that overall, fifteen million euros will be
invested into the team.
Vassilis Pliatsikas, who received some play time with Donis but little with Bajevic is no longer
with AEK. Schalke have signed him for a price within the range of 300,000-400,000 euros. Its a good
move for him, assuming he manages to impress and therefore earn some playing time. Greeks often
seem to play quite well in Germany (Gekas, Liberopoulos, and many others) so hopefully he will play
well there as well.
AEK's management decided late last night to part ways with manager Giorgos Donis after AEK's 0-0
draw at home against Panserraikos. The decision was reached by mutual agreement between Donis and
AEK management. Its unfortunate that this happened to a young Greek coach with such high ambitions
but unfortunately, under his management, AEK was not [.
Well, not much can be said about today's result. A 0-0 draw at home for AEK against recently
promoted Panserraikos was all AEK was able to get away with from this match. Although AEK had many
chances throughout the match none managed to get into the net and the performance overall by the
home team [.
Well it was a close one, again. Two nice goals, one from Blanco and the other from Kafes both in
extra time allowed AEK to advance to the next round of the Greek Cup. Although AEK had many chances
to score throughout the match as with many previous AEK games the ball just wouldn't go [...]
AEK have yet to win away from home this season as they finished with a 1-1 draw Saturday evening
against Xanthi. Overall, 1 point is allright from a game against a team that has the potential to
win these kinds of matches. Basinas played in this match for AEK after coming back from injury.

As expected, Takis Kanellopoulos and Nikos Koulis will take over, temporarily, as presidents of
AEK. They will remain as presidents for a month when, after this period, a permanent replacement
wil be decided upon. Greeksoccer.com has a report here. Greeksoccer.com has another interesting
article here about what progress needs to be done for AEK from this point [.
AEK's three first half goals did not go unanswered for long. It took just 31 minutes of the
second half for Thrasyvoulos to pull even. Yes, it is almost unimaginable that a team of
AEK's supposed caliber would concede three goals in half an hour to a team holding onto the bottom
of the table [...
AEK, after a disappointing performance, luckily managed to get away with 1 point yesterday. The
team played a poor game of soccer and only until Basinas was taken out at half time were they able
to consistently create chances in front of the Larissa goal. Even then, with both Blanco and
Djebbour up front they [.
Olympiacos beat an offensively weak AEK yesterday in the second main Athens Derby of the season.
This was the first week in the Superleague where AEK did not gain a point (AEK had two draws and
two wins up to this point). Fortunately for AEK, its still early in the season, and there is still
time [..
Donis was again happy with his players' performance again Panionios Sunday. Donis has
been very even-tempered during his post-game interviews, careful to praise his players for their
hard work. Indeed, he even refrained from criticizing the officiating, which was dodgy, as is
unfortunately typical in the Greek Super Legue.
AEK are down 1-0 to Panionios at the end of the first half after Kyrgiakos let in an own goal.
Edinho has missed a couple of chances but AEK have not had any serious scoring oppourtunities yet.
They have managed to keep the ball for the most part in the Panionios end but will have [...]
Donis says we played well for just 20 minutes (true), that a quick reflex save from Saja saved us
from a late equalizer (also, true) and the gaffer treats us to more of his musings on
formations...read it all here. And for those that missed the game Sunday, here is a clip of
Scocco's 14th minute [...
AEK, after beating Iraklis 1-0 at home AEK are now tied for second place with PAOK and Ergotelis.
AEK got the ball in the net early on in the first minute of the game however the goal was
dissalowed because of an offside call. Ignacio Scocco scored, his first goal in the Superleague, in
the 14th [...
The AFC website mentions the former AEK midfielder in a few articles on its site. Rivaldo Scores at
his AFC Champions League Debut The AFC also mentions Rivaldo in some other articles on the site.
Good stuff here from the gaffer on his preferred 4-3-3 system, his relationship with the club
administration and the difficulty of a new coach getting the players to understand his philosophy.
Okay well, this is new. Hello I'm Hector and I'm the brand-spanking new writer for Honduras. Hoy
Si Papa!! Anyways, Lets look into what many people call, an unknown quantity, but what I call
Los Catrachos. Some faces you heard before, some you haven't, so bear with me through the
nicknames, which you'll see a lot of.
