Manchester United have pulled the plug on a deal for Corinthians defender Dodo.

The Times says United have decided not to sanction a £5.5 million deal to sign Dodô, the Corinthians defender, in the immediate future but will continue to monitor the 17-year-old Brazilian after he spent two weeks on trial recently.

Man Utd's policy of uprooting underage Brazilian talent like Fabio and Rafael Da Silva and going after highly rated Dodo has come for scathing criticism by some, including legend Carlos Alberto who famously accused the Red Devils of "raping" Brazilian football.

The knock on all this poaching is that these players rarely get to play in their own clubs having been brought up the ranks before they are scouted by the big European clubs and enticed by the large sums of money.

News coming today that Corinthians seventeen year old centre-back Dodo (sorry about the picture but I couldn't find a clear one of the youngster) is on the verge of making a move to United. This move has been mooted for about a month and a half now and it looks to be drawing closer to a reality as the youngster has been quoted as saying he expects to join us in the near future.

Brazilian teenager Dodo will join Manchester United

Dodo will likely join Manchester United in the January transfer window in 2010 for a reported fee of 6 million euros.

He started playing in Cruzeiro at 11 years old, then moved to Corinthians in 2007 where he plays defender.

As of this writing, Corinthians currently sits in the 7th place in the Brazilian Serie A league.

United to Sign Brazilian Starlet Dodo

According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United have struck a deal with Corinthians for Brazilian defender Jose Rodolfo Pires Ribeiro, better known as Dodo.

At only 17-years-old the centre-back is being compared to Rio Ferdinand, because of his ability on the ball and power in the air.

Dodo is currently at the South American Under-17 Championships with Brazil.

Dodo: I’m On My Way To United

17-year-old Brazilian teenager, Dodo, has claimed that he will be signing for Manchester United in the summer, with reports suggesting he would cost £5 million.

Reports in Sao Paulo today suggest the defender will first come on loan from Corinthians before the deal is made permanent.

If he was to join, he would be linking up with the Brazilians we already have at the club, Anderson, Rafael, Fabio and Possebon.

Dodo Comes To United

Promising U-17 winger, Dodo (not affiliated to the extinct bird in anyway, por favor) has caught the eye of the hawks at ForeignChester United. Is it us or have their scouts been going to Brazil a lot lately?

It now appears that a deal is in place for young Dodo to play for United when he turns 18 next year after the club bought him over from Corinthians for €6 million.

Brazil became the 16th team to qualify for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup by defeating Bolivia 3-0 and winning Group A of the CONMEBOL qualifiers.
Goals from Wellington, Dodo and Romario paved the way to the CONMEBOL Championship, where they will face Group B winner Argentina on May 9.

League leaders Botafogo got a huge boost on Thursday, after the Sports Supreme Court agreed to the team's request to review the 120-day suspension for doping of star forward Dodo, which had been ruled on July 24. The court accepted the team's appeal, which was based on an analysis showing that the player had been given caffeine pills by the team's medical staff - which had been accidentally contaminated by an illegal substance. Dodo suspended for doping

The second exam confirmed what the first had already showed, and Botafogo forward Dodo was preventively suspended on Monday for doping. His initial suspension is for 30 days. An urine sample collected after the match against Vasco showed the presence of an illegal substance commonly found in certain drugs used for dieting and quick loss of weight.
