Relive the 2010 World Cup through this amazing documentary by One Goal. Their film project followed
the American Outlaws (and other American soccer fans) to South Africa. Their footage shows the
amazing passion for soccer in the United States and the future for the sport in this country.
Congratulations to Menomonee Falls' Kurt Windbiel, the winner of our "Rise and Shine: The
Jay DeMerit Story" contest.
Windbiel fared the best in predicting the recent U.S. men's national team matches and won the
grand prize: a DVD of the documentary along with a t-shirt and poster from the movie's theatrical
release.
"Me, You, and Jason Euell" by Patrick Cullinan
Shot on the way to, from, and at Port Vale vs AFC Wimbledon in England's League 2 this past
Saturday, the 14th of January, this film captures the sights and sounds of a typical football
awayday.
Beyond the style of the short film in itself, we also love that Patrick Cullinan is an avid
reader of AFR (not to mention an excellent contributor to the Off The Post podcast).
A friendly alert for all those that will be in Philadelphia range on February 2nd: the documentary
Laduma (formerly known as One Goal) will have a screening/fundraiser at the Ritz East (125 So. 2nd
St.) on that evening. The film rolls at 7:30 pm, and you can attend with a $15 donation to help
cover the independent event, with 20% going to HELP KICK HUNGER, a food drive organized by the Sons

Feeling a bit misty for South Africa? Maybe hear Landon Donovan's goal call one more time from Ian
Darke? "One Goal USA" just released the official trailer for their 2010 World Cup film,
"LADUMA".
"Millions of people worldwide watched the 2010 FIFA World Cup on television, as Spain
won the first ever soccer World Cup to be played on the African continent.
If there's a better way to celebrate your birthday than with a trip to Cowdenbeath's Central Park
then I'm not sure what it is.
Obviously seeing your team winning on said trip would be something of a bonus but that's in the
hands of Pat Fenlon and his less than merry band. Drink shall either dull the pain or intensify the
joy.

We thought long and hard about how to thank our faithful band of soldier boys and girls for
their support this year. Among the management proposals vetoed by the staff were:
- Spending the money set aside for the party season bar bills/lawyers fees on a couture outfit
for each and every one of you, with the balance to be contributed towards the search for Fernando
Torres' mojo.
It was as if M Night Shyamalan were directing a documentary on football tactics, the 3-1-4-2
virus sprouting uncontrollably across the globe.
Jonathon Wilson on the 3-1-4-2
Jake's big on this trend and while it isn't one that is likely to be used by Seattle there is an
MLS team that does this at times, the LA Galaxy.
Can't say I've ever been pulled into looking for a football documentary by a trailer as much as
this one on The Other Chelsea, done last year about another financial behemoth run by
Eastern European money, Shakhtar Donetsk, and its far reaches. Simply put, the intro is just
spectacular.
42 hours of flight time for 5 days of work, and totally worth it. I'm honored to have been the
Communications and Marketing instructor for the FIFA Women's Com-Unity Seminar in Tanzania in
October 2011.
FIFA conducts these seminars to bring together government officials, community leaders,
non-government organizations, men's and women's football clubs, media partners and marketing
sponsors in an effort to develop girls' and women's soccer around the world.
Here I sit watching television and waiting for coverage of the 2011 MLS Cup to start. I am hoping
that Americans have a pregame show to watch. TSN2 is showing a heart wrenching documentary about a
former basketball player who battles serious addiction problems. A worthy show I am sure, but
hardly designed to get your mind into a "big game" mode.
If you constantly read everything you can about MLS like I do you'll see them in the comments
section. Go on to a forum and read for a while and you'll see posts by them. What many people refer
to as "Eurosnobs."
Eurosnobs basically argue that MLS would be infinitely better if we "did it like Europe.

Rise and Shine is a documentary about the amazing story of Green Bay, Wisconsin native, Jay
DeMerit. I think most everyone knows DeMerit's story by now. The kid who played soccer for the
University of Illinois at Chicago wasn't drafted by MLS so he flew to England and started playing
for a seventh-tier side.
I might have to be writing a bit this season. Things are exciting at the Roar and I am full of
material. If anything I've been suffering the writer's block of someone with far too much to say.
So fuck it, I'll start with a rave. Anything to get the gripes with FIFA (which I still have) from
the top of the page and some news of this brilliant team.
Real Salt Lake's --or are they RBNY's, I can never tell-- most continental fans have a documentary
coming out. You should watch the trailer, preferably while imbibing in a nice Louis Jadot
Pouilly-Fuissé while wearing something so conservative it's alternative (because
that is Phoenix's modus operandi when it comes to both their music and presentation).
Mark your calendars: "Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story" is coming to Wisconsin on
Nov. 10.
The documentary detailing DeMerit's incredible path took from Bay Port High School to the
English Premier League and the World Cup will be shown at 12 Marcus theatres across the state.
"Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story" has been picked up for worldwide
theatrical distribution.
D&E Entertainment acquired the documentary about the Green Bay native and former Bay Port High
School standout's amazing rise to the Premier League and the World Cup, which was co-directed by
DeMerit's friends Ranko Tutulugdzija and Nick Lewis.

Nothing screams "SWAAAAG!" more than that platinum gold watch,

"Cristiano Ronaldo Al Limite" in Madrid yesterday. The project claims to follow the
Portuguese as he is 'tested to the limit', which involves smashing balls through glass, shooting
and acceleration skills (some of his favourites).

El Chiquitín Fútbol Club - The wonderful story of the women from Jerez,
Spain that will play the beautiful game for as long as they live.
For anyone who has had trouble coming to terms with the fact that the dream of making a living
from football has passed, these women courageously show that no matter the circumstances you can
play and even try to be the local Messi.

Two years on from their last visit, Liverpool were back in the Far East this summer on their
biggest ever pre-season tour and you can now follow every step the Reds made across China, Malaysia
and Singapore in our hour-long documentary online.
Pre-season perving This little piece by Spanish TV channel Cuatro is almost like a Sir David

host of pre-mating season rituals. Firstly, his eye is caught by a leggy blonde. We see Ronaldo

Thanks to an incredible response from soccer fans across the world, "Rise and Shine: The
Jay DeMerit Story" will be completed.
The fundraising project surpassed $215,000 in pledges on Friday, assuring that the documentary
about the Green Bay native's incredible rise from the low levels of semipro soccer in England to
the Premier League and the World Cup can be finished and distributed to a wide audience.
The producers of Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit story are closing in on their goal of funding the
documentary as a Kickstarter project. For those of you unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it's a way to
fund an idea that otherwise wouldn't likely happen. For The Jay DeMerit Story, the producers need
$215,000 dollars for rights clearances so they can use actual game footage in the film.
The careers of possibly the two most famous and talented Brazilian players of all time diverged,
yet couldn't have been more different. This documentary traces the story of football's first global
superstar and a man that overcame everything to make the world gasp, before losing it all.

Jamaica:
Few days ago, a goal from Jamaica vs. Grenada caught my attention so much and I kept watching it
again and again. It reflects a lot of the beauty of the game, from bunch of guys who might not be
as good as the big fishes in the world, but they were not any less entertaining then them at a
moment like that.
I wish someone would do a documentary on the rise & fall of the Rochester Rhinos. 7 or 8 years ago
they were the darlings of the U.S. second division with a U.S. Open Cup title to their name,
outdrawing a few MLS teams at the gate and getting a SSS at a time when few big-league clubs had
one.
In a recent Manchester City documentary entitled Blue Moon Rising, which chronicles the
Premier League club's 2009-10 season, die-hard City fan Noel Gallagher (yes, of Oasis) prolifically
states, "Any football fan just wants to be proud of their team. Whether they win or they lose is
really irrelevant.
Everyone in Madrid came out to paint the town red (or in Guti's case, lime
green) over the weekend to see Shakira 'live' in concert. Sara
Carbonero flew back from South Africa where she was doing a documentary on Spain's World
Cup victory one year on (with Iker Casillas, no less) to see the Colombian star.
Over the past few months, we've provided several updates on "Rise and Shine: The Jay
DeMerit Story."
The documentary tells the story of how the Green Bay native rose from Bay Port High School and
the lower levels of semi-pro soccer in England all the way to the Premier League and the World
Cup.
"Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story" will be shown Friday night at Aquinas
High School in La Crosse.
The documentary follows the Green Bay native's amazing path from playing at Bay Port High School
to the Premier League and the World Cup. The 31-year-old DeMerit is now the captain and a starting
central defender for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer.
The makers of "Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story" released a new trailer
this week as they continue to seek donations to help them complete the documentary about the Green
Bay native's rise to the top levels of world soccer.
The group has received more than $61,000 in pledges from nearly 450 people through their
KickStarter fundraising site, according to an update sent Thursday afternoon.
In stark contrast to the hopefully now infamous Wall Street Journal article (that I won't bother
linking again), a video was released last night by locally based energy drink company Golazo. It's
less than 5 minutes long, so it's not exactly what you'd call a documentary, but it is a cool look
at football fandom.
A few months ago, we told you about the documentary "Rise and Shine: The Jay
DeMerit Story."
The movie, which was filmed and produced by some of DeMerit's friends, tells the story of the
Green Bay native's amazing and unlikely career in professional soccer, rising from low-level
semipro leagues in England all the way to the Premier League and the World Cup.
