Rio de Janeiro (AFP) – Brazil coach Tite on Friday recalled Chelsea defender David Luiz to his squad for two upcoming friendlies despite his team having secured nine wins in nine games without him.

The former PSG defender last played for Brazil in March 2016 when Dunga was still at the helm and he was blamed for two errors in a 2-2 draw with Uruguay.

Mano Menezes has been forced to make changes for Brazil's game against Japan in Poland on Tuesday. With the injury to Real Madrid's Marcelo, centreback Leandro Castan may make his Brazil debut as a makeshift left-back. A more adventurous line-up could see Thiago Neves appearing on the left. Ramires is also doubtful.

Brazil played Iraq (who are coached by Zico) in a friendly last night, thrashing them 6-0 in Sweden; a game which saw Kaka score on his first appearance for his country since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

There were goals aplenty over the course of the evening, but the real highlight was seeing David Luiz getting knocked coco loopy by his own goalkeeper, Diego Alves, who rose elegantly to punch a cross clear, duly got absolutely nothing of the ball and thumped Luiz in the face, sending his fuzzy arse down.

Chelsea defenders are finding themselves under-fire from all angles at the minute, not least David Luiz. The curly-haired centre-back took a double punch to the face from goalkeeper Diego Alves during Brazil's friendly with Iraq. Alves came for a cross, got nothing on the ball and everything on Luiz.

Two goals from Oscar within the first half hour of a friendly against Iraq gave Brazil a comfortable lead early on, but the experience was decidedly less comfortable for David Luiz. The Chelsea defender was attempting to head clear a high floating ball in the box when Brazil keeper Diego Alves came rushing forward to try and knock it away himself.

Brazil take on Iraq on Thursday in an international friendly in Sweden. The fixture represents the return of Real Madrid midfielder Kaká who has not appeared for Brazil since the World Cup finals in South Africa in 2010.
Iraq are led by Brazil legend Zico. Iraq are 80th in the FIFA world ranking and the fixture has been heavily criticized as Brazil prepare for the Confederations Cup in Brazil next year and the World Cup in 2014.

Yesterday FC Barcelona got a major boost in the Spanish title race when their rivals from Real Madrid failed to defeat Valencia. 2-2 is likely to land the title in Catalonia. Even as a Valencia fan I have to admit that the tie was not entirely deserved: Real Madrid pressured and had chances for a victory, and it was either a great Diego Alves or luck that saved Valencia.

After a lovely morning in Brussels with running, museum and coffee, I decided to go into a pub to watch Valencia and Atletico Madrid, defending Spanish champions, play in the Spanish League. The bar was full of Atletico Madrid fans, who were being loud, obnoxious, and annoying. They are just like me, who fifteen minutes into the match could smile satisfied to myself, as Valencia was leading 3-0

For the past several seasons, Real Madrid treated the Copa del Rey as a nuisance and a burden rather than a competition worth winning.  José Mourinho has changed that mentality.  One Taça de Portgual with FC Porto, two Carling Cups and an FA Cup with Chelsea, and a Coppa Italia with Inter Milan signals Mourinho's intentions of taking the domestic cup as seriously as the domestic league and the European competitions.
