Heartbreak for Gabon and Aubamayeng but a bright future awaits... is a post from: Just
Football
In my latest column for FourFourTwo I take a look at co-hosts Gabon
and their exciting but ultimately heartbreaking Africa Cup of Nations
campaign:
After the laughter comes tears.
By Chris Wright
'Twas the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals over the weekend, with Ivory Coast whupping
co-hosts Equatorial Guinea 3-0 on Saturday courtesy of a brace from young Didier of Drogbashire and
a colossal 32.808399-yard free-kick from Yaya Toure...
Would you just look at the swing on that?
Chelsea have completed the signing of 20 year old Kevin De Bruyne from Belgian side FC Genk. A 5
year, £6.7 million deal has been agreed by both parties after which Bruyne will be loaned back to
Genk for the rest of the season.
De Bruyne who underwent a medical yesterday at Chelsea's training grounds becomes Chelsea's
second signing in this transfer window after Gary Cahill completed his move from Bolton earlier
this month.
Ducky's Note: Rathna Prashanth looks at a novel way to solve Torres'
striking problem. By getting rid of Drogba!
Legend, proven goal scorer, leader on the pitch- these are some of the terms that describe the
powerful Ivorian Drogba, aka the Top Dog of the Bridge. At 150 goals and still counting, not only
has he been an amazing goalscorer for Chelsea, he has also been a tremendous athlete.
From Barcelona to Manchester United, there has never been a shortage of interest in Frank
Lampard's services over the years as the Chelsea midfielder continues to age brilliantly.
But despite the continuation of his superb form for the Blues, the fact remains that Lampard is
approaching his 34th birthday and as many in Europe will say, it is ideal for him to look overseas
for a more lucrative opportunity at this stage of his career.
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has admitted to his club's official website that his
second year has been much more difficult. The Mexican international has seen limited action in the
2011/12 season, and has seen much of his second season plagued by injuries.
"There are different circumstances because I have had more injuries this season than last year,
but I am still enjoying it," said one of last season's best signings.
MLS Submits Bid For Samuel Eto'o
It would easily be the largest transfer fee ever paid, even if only about half of what Eto'o's
current team wants. The National is not a news organization with which I am familiar, but the
rolling David Beckham deal is the current news and MLS & Didier Drogba have been linked before.

ADUAMA/aduama.com)
Over the past few seasons there seemed to be a general consensus that the New England Revolution
needed a veteran in the back line to help guide its relatively young defense. Admittedly, I was a
part of that group.
Big guns: Aging stars like, from left, Robert Pires, retired Brazilian striker Ronaldo (well, OK
maybe it's a little late for him) and Chelsea's Didier Drogba, seen here at a charity game in
Hamburg, Germany today, may have less motivation to take MLS money now that China's newly rich have

Sometimes I look at Nicolas Anelka and I just think what a waste.
Don't get me wrong, he has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world.
Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris-Saint Germain, Liverpool and Bolton is quite an impressive list for any
footballer.
But he has also undermined and stained his career by playing for smaller clubs like Chelsea and
Manchester City.
Anxiety? Not needed.
A pulsating showcase, carefully imagined by Andre Villas-Boas and anchored by the irresistible
Didier Drogba, sees our beloved Chelsea into the knockout stages of the Champions League once
again. As group winners, too, no less. This, my friends, was a night to cherish.
Happiness is a warm brace
What to say, what to say.
As we all know AVB is planning a
clear out starting in January and continuing next summer
after the club confirmed that transfer requests have been accepted from
Alex and
Nico
Anelka. Over the weekend stories also broke that AVB is prepared to listen to offers for
Drogba, Kalou, Bosingwa and Ferreira.
Over the weekend we heard AVB confirm that Alex and Nico Anelka have both submitted transfer
requests to the club that have been accepted and they are now training away from the first team
squad until a move has been completed.
Yesterday however, news broke all over the media that Chelsea and AVB are also willing to listen to
offers for a further FOUR more players in January!
Ivory Coast are the heavy favourites going into the African Cup of Nations in 2012 in Gabon and
Equatorial Guinea next year.
The Elephants will be able to call upon on the service of a number of high profile European players
such as the Toure brothers, Salomon Kalou, Gervinho and Didier Drogba.
Three points? A clean sheet? At the Bridge? What the hell?
Rebounding (Latent NBA Reference)
Well, that was certainly nice to see now wasn't it? After almost a month and change of suspect
performances, last-minute defensive lapses, and whimsical finishing that made us all shudder, we
put in a comprehensive 90-minute shift that should quell a few of the naysayers.
Greetings, from the most environmentally friendly Tim Stillman Column yet, powered as it is
entirely by the smug sense of satisfaction I get from watching John Terry's putrid goblin face
eating turf. Perhaps it's about time those odious Chav cunts stopped singing about mowing the
meadow and actually started doing it, so that their abomination of a captain wouldn't have to get
down on all fours and do it with his teeth.
Nigeria is apparently shit. Thank the sweet lord.
Hanging out in January
Apologies for not getting this up early. Most of us were doing the full-time job thing when the
news broke. Me, I was doing some low-rent promotion at a local mixed martial arts event with a good
friend.
Schalke fans might want to skip this. Everybody else, who has seen enough of Bayern players in
Lederhosen and WAGs in Dirndls, can skip this as well.
It's Oktoberfest time in Munich again and Bayern paid a visit. As they do every year. And either
Bayern are already operating on a level, where a 0-0 draw away at Hoffenheim equals a horrible
defeat, or they really would have rather spend their day someplace else.
After a few days of explaining his stance to the media, Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has
slammed their coverage of his tactics as pressure mounts on veteran stars Frank Lampard and Didier
Drogba to fight for starting XI places.
Villas-Boas controversially substituted Lampard during the interval at Old Trafford last Sunday
and although Chelsea were trailing 3-0 to Manchester United at that point, the 33-year old had been
one of the better performers for the Blues.
Pat Nevin is featured on the Official Chelsea Website talking tactics and it's a really good read
and raises plenty of questions. I am not going to paste all of it in here, just the important part
I want to focus on.
When asked about the way we have been playing and the international break, Nevin believes that AVB
has using trial and error up till now, but when the players come back this week, we could see a
different Chelsea side prepared to take plenty of risks to be successful.
If you were asked to name your preferred first eleven now that the transfer window has shut, you
would pretty much pick 6 or 7 similar players in a 4-3-3 formation under AVB.
There is an argument that Chelsea have become predictable since last season and pretty much for
three halves of football at the start of this season.
What are the odds Nicolas Anelka is Chelsea's top Premier League scorer this season?
Derek McGovern's Bets of the Day
There are about eight players in the running to be Chelsea's top Premier League scorer this
season, or nine if you include Fernando Torres. Drogba, Anelka, Lampard, Lukaku, Malouda, Kalou,
Sturridge, Torres, Mata – the list is practically goalless.

Today, Oriol Romeu and Romelu Lukaku spoke for the first time in public about their moves to
Stamford Bridge and both are keen to point out, they want to work hard to earn the right to take
their place among "the great players" we have at our club.
First up on the website is Oriol Romeu who many are touting for a number of games this season in a
Chelsea shirt.

Romelu Lukaku has officially signed for the club. I posted a video on here the other day showing
exactly what he will offer Chelsea in years to come here so make sure you check it out.
He has given his first full interview to Chelseafc.com and here is some extracts from that
interview.

Anderlecht is often called "the new Didier Drogba," so it's fitting that he has signed for the club

It's always nice to hear from all members of our squad rather than the main established players
such as JT, Lamps, Cech and Didier. Don't get me wrong, it's important that these four have their
say during pre season and the season, but at times it's nice to hear from the others.
Today I get to blog about comments made by Branislav Ivanovic, John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou.
Many soccer fans will have fond memories of the Orange Peel Vapor IV's sported by the likes of
Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Didier Drogba back in 2008. Cristiano Ronaldo... Read

Mired in a nine game winless streak with no end in sight, the New England Revolution desperately
need new players to turn their season around. And no one knows that more than head coach Steve
Nicol.

"We need some new faces, which we're trying to do," said Nicol after Sunday's 3-0 loss to the
Philadelphia Union.
