Andy Carroll was the elephant in the room. The Liverpool striker on loan in the first big moment
of the match knocked the ball down straight into the path of Ricardo Vaz Te who found Kevin Nolan
steaming down the left to fire a snap shot past Mark Schwarzer.

DON'T PANIC!
We have been losing at West Ham forever. We have been bad away from home for ages. Had we held
onto Dembele and restored Dempsey and kept Murphy and signed some exciting half-Lithuanian
playmakers we'd still have been perfectly capable of playing like that.

So, transfer deadline day is finally over and Fulham managed to secure three signings to add to
the team. Some quick thoughts on each one:
Dimitar Berbatov
Obviously the star signing of Fulham's transfer window. The loss of Moussa Dembele upset many
but the signing of Berba on a two year contract had most Fulham fans dancing a jig of delight.

We play Manchester United on Saturday. The thing with United is that while you might think you
match up okay with them, they have more ways to beat you than anyone else. So we have a nice
midfield at the moment, right? Fine, but United are deadly down the flanks, and that at once
nullifies one of our best players (Riise) and perhaps exploits a potential weakness of ours
(defending wide areas).

Can I have our ball back? Fulham's midfield were pretty stingey with the ball. Damien Duff
completed 94% of his 18 passes, Diarra 94% of his 90 (Murphy-equque), Dembele 96% of his 73, and
Kacaniklic 96% of his 27. Ruiz, the link man, was at 91% of his 54.
The right stuff: Ruiz made 3 key passes, as did Riise.

Having been linked variously with Chris Samba, Scott Dann, Kevin Doyle and Kieran Richardson
over the last twelve months, it is quite understandable that's there has been a palpable sense of
excitement around Arsenal this week. The acquisition of Santi Cazorla represents the third signing
this summer that I have actually heard of.
Two of the world's great football clubs, Real Madrid and AC Milan, met Wednesday evening at a
very sticky and humid Yankee Stadium as part of the World Football Challenge. The match was the
second played this summer at the famous baseball stadium in The Bronx, New York, and offered a much
more entertaining show than the earlier exhibition between Chelsea and PSG.
Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira scored in each half to give Real Madrid a 2-1 win over Mexican club
Santos Laguna in a friendly on Sunday in Las Vegas. The Mexican champions offered a lot more
competition for Madrid than what the LA Galaxy had in what what a competitive game.
It has been a long time since "Sin City" has seen a marquee team like Real Madrid and the 29,152
fans in attendance seem to enjoy the game despite the 102 degrees at kickoff.
David Junior Lopes has developed a knack lately for scoring against big time European clubs.
A little more than a week after scoring an equalizer against Tottenham Hotspur, the 6-4 Center
Back was at it again against Spanish power Real Madrid on Thursday. This time, Lopes cashed in a
goal off a David Beckham set piece in the 24rd minute, but even that was not enough to prevent
Madrid from once again outclassing the Galaxy for a third straight year courtesy of a 5-1 win over
LA at the Home Depot Center.
Real Madrid are in the U.S. ahead of their four game tour and there are a couple of surprises
with who did and did not step off the plane in Los Angeles.
Not here is Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho, who started just 10 matches in all
competitions for Jose Mourinho's side last season.
GAGO, LASS DIARRA, ALTINTOP & CARVALHO have elements in common. All are currently REAL MADRID
players, all are on the Club transfer list & all wish to leave the Spanish Football Club free. That
is, be allowed to go to another Club without that Club having to pay Real Madrid a transfer fee.
Real Madrid players The reason is simple.

The summer months can get frustrating for football fans. For every newspaper story (most, we
assume, with a grain of truth to them) we have several internet rumours and counter rumours (few,
we assume, with a grain of truth to them) and everyone laps it all up anyway because without actual
matches our addiction needs feeding somehow (and by reading these articles and some sportsbook
reviews, placing a bet on your favorite team will be easy).

First rule of goalkeeping: Shut your eyes and hope for the best!
1. Chelsea, meet England. England, Chelsea. Seems we have a new blueprint for
nullifying technically superior sides in this country and boy does it work a treat!
England and France played to a 1-1 draw in the opening match of Group D. It was not a
particularly entertaining match as England did play a very attacking style and sat back after
taking a first half lead.
The English took a 1-0 lead when Steven Gerrard sent a great cross into the box from a free kick
to which Joleon Lescott headed into goal.
16:45 CET (10:45 a.m. Eastern) Friends, I'll throw the starting line-ups on here when they're
available, and any last-minute talking points. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. If
nothing else, I'll pop in with my expressions of joy or despair at halftime.
Come on you Blues.
The first thing making the rounds is that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will start for England.
West Ham consummate the subscribing of French midfielder Alou Diarra from Marseille for an
anchorage described to be £2m.

will certainly add steel, composure and skill to a...

France lost 2-0 to Sweden but still advanced to the quarterfinals. It was a lackluster
performance from France while Sweden ended Euro 2012 on a high note.
Sweden could not advance to the next stage while France would advance with a draw or England
win. The Swedes took a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute with striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic's fantastic
finish.
