On the heels of third-place Manchester United's loss to Chelsea yesterday, Darren Fletcher made
the claim that he had only been called for a foul on Ashley Cole because of comments Arsene Wenger
had made in the media two months ago (comments which did not even mention Darren Fletcher's name).
We here at the Arsenal Offside found these comments curious, and it seemed like a bizarre and
misguided attempt to deflect attention from third-place Manchester United's shortcomings in the
match and to try to drag Arsenal into the discussion.

The Offside 23 September @ 02:30 PM EST
The Manchester derby post-match talk was dominated by debates about time-keeping. So much so, no
one seemed to notice that Darren Fletcher scored twice. Which is sort of a common theme for DF.
Because he doesn't have a tan, a fancy name, or a flashy (or even decent) haircut. Because he
doesn't do stepovers or rabonas.

MLS Rumors 01 June @ 03:02 PM EST
As pressbox friend, Jeff King writes at MLSnet (click here for all the details), Chivas USA has
signed outside midfielder Cesar Zamora from the Chivas USA academy team. You may recall if you read
my live soccer coverage of the California-based MLS teams that I mentioned that three academy
members were training with the first team (though I was given the name Victor Zamora):
"Omar Becera DF, Jesse Paredes MF, Cesar Zamora MF are three academy players practicing with the
first team.

This is one game that shouldn't require any effort to get up for from the players. The Rapids left
two points on the field last week, and now they have a chance to beat down FaKe SaLt LaKe. There's
no excuses for not putting out 100% effort for 90 minutes in this game. Kickoff is at 7:30pm
tomorrow, and there will be an expanded 3 hour tailgate before the game in the VIP Lot.

Got an email from Andrew MacDonald in Mexico City this weekend:
Things around here have seemed quite surreal the last couple of days.
How's this for futbol news...the Pumas vs. Chivas game at CU, and the America vs. Tecos game at
Azteca are going to be played behind closed doors because of this flu epidemic that´s killed 60
people here in Mexico City.

The incredibly scary swine flu strain has closed schools in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and
San Luis Potosi until May 6. Mexico City has turned into a virtual ghost town: the churches were
empty this morning, and the streets are bare.
Futbol has not been canceled, but the games will be played behind in front of empty seats.

the most interesting - and two huge derbies: the Rome derby between Lazio and AS Roma and arguably
the biggest derby in the world between Galatasary and Fenerbahce.
