John Nyen spurs a more interesting relationship between Donovan and Dempsey than
"foil."
....or did they?

Everton's 2-1 win over Fulham last week not only propelled the club into the fifth round of
the FA Cup, but it also provided the first head-to-head showdown between U.S. national teammates
Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey. The following is Landon's latest correspondence with his
friends and family back home, where he reflects on that match.

Attending a live match is, obviously, an entirely different experience to watching on TV. When
you are free of the director's control, you might choose to follow an individual on the field for
long periods of the game.
Clint, to coin the phrase from former SportsCenter anchor Dan Patrick, is 'en fuego'. Dempsey
dumped in three second half goals as Fulham raced to a 5-2 victory against Newcastle this
afternoon.
Deuce becomes the first American to score a hat trick in the Premier League - did we mention he
scored three against Charlton in an FA Cup match two weeks ago?

While English observers are foaming at the mouth Homer Simpson-style over the Liverpool v
Manchester United clash drawn in the FA Cup fourth round. All us Ameri-nuts, however, get the tingle
from a different tourney match-up set for the end of the month: Everton v Fulham, otherwise known
in our bubble as the first ever EPL edition of Landon v Deuce.

Was there really any doubt that Clint Dempsey wasn't going to run away with this award?
As some of our commentors pointed out during the voting, it seemed a bit one-sided. Not just
because of their own qualifications, but the over-whelming case that could be made for Sir
Deuce.
With nearly 40 goals for Fulham in the English Premier League and counting Clint Dempsey has made
the biggest splash of any American aboard, ever.
Perhaps Clint Dempsey, the man known as "Deuce," is the greatest American soccer player of all
time. The Texan had an enormous impact on me as a child growing up in the Boston area. Dempsey's
scrappy goals and occasional appearances ...

Photo Credit: AFPThe Deuce was on the loose this afternoon after the Nagadoches (Texas) native
bagged a rebound goal to give his Fulham side a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. The goal, Dempsey's
37th in England makes him the all-time leading goal scorer for Yanks in England. Brian McBride, who
also played for Fulham (and one of the stadiums bars is named after) now sits in second with 36
goals.
Clint Dempsey has been voted the Futbol de Primera USA national-team player of the year for the
second time - the last time being way back in 2006.He got 375 points and 99 first place votes .The
also rans were Tim Howard - second with 252 points and Landycakes - third with 191 points.

One of the most common questions any US Soccer fan asks is who is going to replace Landon Donovan
and Clint Dempsey when they retire. They have held the attack together for the past few years and
fast approaching is a time when the US will have to rely on someone other than "Deuce" or "'Cakes"
for a goal when they need it.
I have just been told that AS Roma will not be making a bid for Clint Dempsey today. I'm thinking
he's a little too costly and all the added attention isn't helping that. So does this mean Roma
will not be able to snare an American during this window? It sure seems so - but I have not been
informed that this is definitively the case.
Do bear in mind I'm not showing full hands this morning, but there are a couple of specific
noteworthy tidbits it seemed best to share now. It's been a while since we've checked in with AS
Roma and with Clint Dempsey, so let's do both now. It seems the arrival of fan Luis Enrique has
actually put Deuce from the "He's good, but we're not sure what position he is" category onto their
"Project Buy
1. The lineup for tonight's match will be very similar to the one Bob Bradley fielded against
Jamaica. It will be the same 4-5-1, but Kljestan will start on the bench. Deuce will move central
and Donovan will take a spot on the wing, opposite Bedoya. Agudelo will start up top in place of
the injured Altidore.

We stumbled across this beer and American soccer marketing gem and couldn't resist having a little
fun with it. Found while reading SI.com a banner ad caught our eye, "Modelo Especial Shootout with
Clint Dempsey."
Hey! We love beer! We love the Deuce! First though was... do you think the Dempsey used to sling
back Modelos with his bros in Nacogdoches?

GAME TWO IN TAMPA: After a successful start to the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 2-0 win against
Canada in Detroit, the U.S. headed south to Tampa, Fla., to prepare to face Panama on Saturday,
June 11, at Raymond James Stadium. Group C's first-place position is up for grabs as Panama was 3-2
winners against Guadeloupe in Tuesday's other match and currently sits in second place behind the
U.
If anything is remembered in soccer history from last night's match between the United States and
Canada it won't be because it was both National Team's Gold Cup opener or the first win in
America's march to reclaiming CONCACAF's title, or even Jozy Altidore finally finding the net after
MONTHS.
No, it will be for this little bit of audacity from the man from Nacogdoches, Texas, Clint Dempsey
and his attempted scorpion kick of a deflected cross.
Time to get the popcorn. Here are several Dynamo-related videos I've found. The first series of
videos interviewing various Dynamo players is from serial YouTuber Futbolr. First, we start with
the Dancing Bear himself, Will Bruin.
And here's everyone's favorite left back of the moment, the Carolina Speedster himself, Corey

No, Clint Dempsey is not playing blackjack tonight, he's playing Bolton. And he has sent the hosts
into halftime with a 1-0 lead, thanks to his career-best 11th goal of the season. Not only that,
but his 15th minute volley strike from a corner kick also pulled MC Deuce level with countryman
Brian McBride and Steed Malbranque as the club's top all-time EPL scorer.

More disappointment at Craven Cottage as Chelsea fail to breakdown a resolute Fulham side in
somewhat drab 0-0 fare on Valentine's Day evening. Well, drab up until added time.
That's when Petr Cech saved our collective blushes, denying Clint Dempsey from the spot after
Mike Dean more inept than our play on this day awarded the hosts an ultra-late penalty for the
slightest of nicks on Deuce from David Luiz.
