The history of the Derby d'Italia runs deep, Giuseppe Meazza of Inter (Google Creative Commons)
This Saturday, two of Italy's best teams will square off when Inter Milan host Juventus in the 30th round of fixtures in the Serie A. Juventus has dominated the domestic campaign once again this season, scoring second most goals and conceding the least goals thus far.
Serie A Weekly welcomes new writer Matthew Coccoluto to our pages from week to week. Once again the
Derby D'Italia proved to be a good one as Juventus came away from the San Siro with all three
points. Prior to this week, Inter had managed to win only two games while losing an astonishing
four. Juventus were coming off a mid-week win against Fiorentina, their second win in the last five
games.
The evening of Sunday February 13, 2011 featured the Derby d'Italia as Juventus hosted Inter in
Torino. Inter, after a rocky start under Rafa Benitez, has found new life under the coaching of
Leonardo and came into Torino on a 3 match win streak. Meanwhile, Juventus has been suffering an
inconsistent season in which hopes of winning the Scudetto have switched to hopes of just making
the Champions League cut.
Its a game that needs no introduction, but they are always fun to watch anyways so

A few weeks ago, Liverpool's Roy Hodgson was quoted as saying
the Manchester United-Liverpool fixture was similar to that of Inter vs Juventus in the
Derby D'Italia.
At the interval it's goal-less in this 'Derby of Italia' but Juventus are down to 10 men for the
second 45 with the sending off of M Sissoko in the 37th minute. Juventus dominated early on
however...

That's Gianluigi Buffon getting in a shoving match with Inter's Thiago Motta in the confusion
that followed Felipe Melo getting a second yellow card for somehow elbowing Mario Balotelli so hard
in the chest that it made his face hurt. Momo Sissoko also tried to get in on the act by feigning a
facial injury, but no one bought it.
Since Juventus fans keep spitting racial slurs at Mario Balotelli, club president Jean-Claude
Blanc thought it might be a good idea to write an open letter to supporters, kindly asking them to
not be racist idiots so the club doesn't get in anymore trouble with the Derby D'Italia
looming.
Writes Blanc:
"We want the two games against Inter and Bayern Munich to be a battle on the field and a party
off it, with heated and passionate support.
Inter vs Juventus In the last eighteen heads to heads there have been eight draws, six have
been won by Juventus, with the remaining four won by Inter making this a highly charged
encounter. Internazionale have been given the nod by bookies but that won't stand for
anything come the final moments as Juventus have been known to finish [.
With weeks of verbal gymnastics under their belts, Jose Mourinho and his Juventus counterpart
Claudio Ranieri finally meet up on Saturday in the derby d'Italia. This derby is one of the
most intense matches in Italy between two teams not from the same city and the derby gets it's
name from the fact that up until the calciopoli [.
