Yesterday there were reports from the Denver Post and that the players and coaches got into a
shouting math after practice last Thursday, with Conor Casey stomping off the practice field
challenging Gary Smith to trade him and Pat Noonan leading the players in refusing extra
"punishment" laps. Obviously this isn't what you want to see from a team that collapsed in the
final quarter of the season.

When it comes to conversations about the most dysfunctional clubs in Major League Soccer, the
New York Red Bulls often tend to dominate the conversations, but one club that needs to start being
discussed is the Colorado Rapids.

Big Story
After years of torturous ownership from the insulting and patronising Halls to the clueless and
inept Mike Ashley it would seem no wonder that Newcastle fans would be interested in attempting to
assert some control on the destiny of their club, especially given their huge numbers and seemingly
endless willingness to pump cash in through ticket sales and merchandise.

One western side isn't taking a backseat this summer. The Colorado Rapids are actively perusing
a couple players in hopes to bring on to help their lack of depth going into the second half of the
season.
Currently the Rapids sit forth in the west and 8th overall, which would be good enough for a
playoff spot today.

Onetime Toronto FC target, Aberdeen's winger/striker Jamie Smith is set to sign with Colorado as is
Argentine striker Facundo Diz, who has long been rumored to be joining the mile high club.
Excerpt courtesy of the Denver Post:
In addition to signing 30-year-old French defender Julien Baudet, the Rapids — pending any
paperwork snafus — will add 30-year-old Argentine striker Facundo Diz, formerly with Atletico
Platense, and 28-year-old Scottish winger Jamie Smith, who was last at Aberdeen and played with
Rapids assistant Steve Guppy at Celtic.

The Denver Post is reporting that along with French defender Julian Baudet, the Rapids have also
signed Argentine striker Facundo Diz and British right-winger Jason Smith. Diz would obviously give
us much needed depth up front, while Smith seems to be a replacement for Terry Cooke who has
reportedly been asked, and agreed, to not have his contract guaranteed until September instead of
on the July 1st date all other MLS contracts are guaranteed on.

Never give up a point on the road.
Galaxy Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena can look at the statistics just
like every other coach and fan in Major League Soccer and knows that success depends on scrapping
for points on the road and stockpiling them at home. (Actually I'm pretty sure that this is the
basic premise of every league in the world.

The Galaxy-Colorado Rapids game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. (delayed until 10 p.m. on Prime) and fans
should get there early for a free T-shirt and $1 pregame beers and hot dogs. Cheapo tickets,
too.

Nick at We Want Rapid Man takes a look at Bouna's situation. The Denver Post also covers it here.
It looks to be headed down the same path that lead Herculez Gomez to Kansas City. Will things turn
around? Will we see Bouna in nets for the Rapids again? Or could we see him traded to a team
looking for a goalkeeper?

There's a nice write-up about
Bouna Coundoul in the Denver Post (link below) and
how he is caught between a rock and a hard place both at home and with the Senegal national team.
He's saying all the right things about being happy as a deputy to
Preston Burpo
but it is clear how frustrated he is at being on the bench both for the
Colorado
Rapids and Senegal.

Fernando Clavijo has resigned as Colorado Rapids head coach in a move that seemed destined to
happen even before the 2008 season began.
"A lot of things happened through the year that I was not happy with in many ways,"
Clavijo told the Denver Post.

Fernando Clavijo is resigning as coach of the Rapids effective immediately, according to the Denver
Post this morning. No real shocker here as Clavijo left the club earlier last week to be with his
family in his native Uruguay. He mentions that he wants to help the club but needs to be with his
family [.

Fernando Clavijo, the head coach of the
Colorado Rapids, has
resigned with immediate effect from his position. Like the death of a sick loved one, the news
comes as a shock but not exactly unexpected. Rumors had been flying for some time, especially after
the recent meltdown at the Los Angeles Galaxy when Ruud Gullit and Alexei Lalas said goodbye.

According to the Denver Post, the "Andrulis of the West" is finally calling it quits.
This coming after an apparant "trip to Uruguay" and repeated votes of confidence from
management. Obviously, he's done more than enough to deserve the firing, but why has he been
dangled out there like this and is now resigning rather than [.

Our friends over at the
Denver Post, aka my co-host this week on the From The
Pitch radio show, Brian Forbes, is reporting that the Colorado Rapids will probably continue to
play three at the back rather than four for tomorrow's game against Kansas. The only difference is
that such a threesome would include two players making season debuts in
Mike Petke
and new signing
Cory Gibbs in place of the injured Ugo Ihemelu.
