The Montreal Impact may be months away from taking the field as a MLS club but manager Jesse
Marsch and company are already beginning to make the transition a big one for the club. Today they
have announced the signing of Colombian defender and former Inter Milan man, Nelson Rivas.
Rivas will be eligible for MLS games in 2012 pending receipt of his International Transfer
Certificate and work visa.
Vancouver have yet to win away from home and are sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference.
They recently fired manager Teitur Thordarson and put Tom Soehn in charge. The Sounders are pushing
to make the playoffs and sit third in the West, coming into this match thinking they could get all
three points.
Welcome to the New England Revolution vs. Vancouver Whitecaps home match live game thread!
Since I just released the preview a few hours ago, I'll cut right to the keys of the game. The
Revolution have to score, and they should probably score quickly. Vancouver's defense is big and
physical but not particularly effective; most of their strength lies in attack, but their offense
is erratic.
The Major League Soccer Players Union has released their latest update on Major League Soccer
player salaries. David Beckham remains the highest paid player in Major League Soccer. As iron81
pointed out, Marko Maric is the highest paid player on the Chicago Fire. Thierry Henry, Rafael
Marquez, Landon Donovan and Julian de Guzman round out the top 5 current MLS players.
Now it is time to put that loss behind us and start looking forward to the next game. With
international duties ending and hopefully some injuries healing we should see a more cohesive side
when SKC travels to Empire Field in Vancouver.
Both teams will be playing with our their designated players as both received red cards last
week and will be forced to support from the stands.
The Starting 11
This was much much better from the US!
There was some intent to build an attack instead of firing cannonballs up field.
Now for some context and conclusions:
1) The obvious one.
This was not Argentina. Nor was it against a Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, or any team whose style
is to keep the ball.
STARTERS
A Spanish court has ordered the Primera Division to play their games this weekend. The teams had
been prepared to walk out over a dispute of TV revenue.
STORY OF THE DAY
The Guardian reports that the Chinese government paid for the rebuilding of the national stadium in
Costa Rica.
Let's be honest. After the stirring fightback against Argentina, you always knew the heavy legs and
emotional comedown were going to cost the US against a side built to grind out results. While there
were significant flaws, the performance was actually better than I expected and, save for a set
piece let down and a possible missed PK call by the ref, the song might have been a more satisfying
one come the final whistle.

I've renamed this one where we gather the line-ups, pre-game thoughts and eventually highlights and
reaction. It figures to be easier to find these that way for any later reference.Tonight, Tim
Howard, Oguchi Onyewu and Benny Feilhaber are not dressed. Thus, this is what I'd like to see:
Yelldell; Chandler/Lichaj (half each), DeMerit, Ream, Bornstein - Edu, Bradley, Diskerud - Donovan,
Altidore,
Sorry I have not posted this sooner. I've had one of the worst weeks in terms of schoolwork.
Bradley started off the game was a 4-2-3-1 formation that was mostly ineffective. I don't know
why Bradley tries this formation. It has not worked well for us in the past, and Bradley still
hasn't gotten the starting XI right.
The U.S. men's national team heads into tonight's friendly vs. Paraguay searching for its first
win of 2011, but also searching for the right combination of players as the team draws closer and
closer to this summer's Gold Cup.
Tonight's friendly (8pm, Fox Soccer Channel) should provide a showcase for some talented
youngsters who impressed in Saturday's match against Argentina.
I'm discouraged by the lack of a proper ideas man in midfield, as you'd probably have
guessed.Tonight, we will not see Yelldell, Lichaj, Benny or Mix in uniform. Hopefully, they will
get starts against Paraguay.Enjoy the game.Howard; Spector, DeMerit, Onyewu, Bocanegra - Jones,
Bradley, Edu - Dempsey, Donovan - AltidoreBench: Hahnemann, Bornstein, Ream, Chandler, Kljestan,
Agudelo, BuddleAndujar;

A couple of big surprises selections: Veteran goalkeeper David Yelldell of Duisburg in Germany's 2.
We've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in the preseason matches from the Whitecaps. The good
came right away, with the 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake. The bad came against the Seattle
Sounders, the 105 minute training match which finished 1-0 for the Sounders. And the ugly came
today against Chivas USA, especially in the first half when the team was too defensive.
