Now that the dust has settled, here's a look at some of the transfers that took place during the
January transfer window, and see if we can separate the wheat from the chaff.
Whereas last season money was being splashed out on the likes of Fernando Torres and Andy
Carroll like a mad gambler who got his greasy mits on a load of free bets, the window this time
around was a lot more sensible, indicating a lot less value in the market.
The 2012 January transfer window was a rather more sedate affair than it's 2011 predecessor.
Money was spent much more sensibly this time around as opposed to being thrown around like a
compulsive gambler who had hacked into a free bets website.
Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez did not get a move away from the Etihad and Manchester
United did not break the bank to sign Wesley Sneijder.

Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Newcastle United Premier League 1st February 2012
Despite still being shorn of the services of their two Demba-tastic strikers, Alan Pardew's
Newcastle halted their recent decline with a very valuable away victory at Ewood Park.
According to the Daily Mirror on Sunday, Manchester City have rejected an offer from Liverpool
to swap Carlos Tevez for Andy Carroll.
According to the exclusive in the newspaper, Liverpool approached Man City's Football
Administration Officer Brian Marwood with the offer 48 hours ago, just hours after beating the
Blues in the Carling Cup semi-final.
The transfer rumours involving Spurs are very slowly starting to spark into life with stories
that Roman Pavlyuchenko could be the first and possibly only departure from White Hart Lane this
summer.
Yesterday, Pav's vocal agent Oleg Artemov claimed that Spurs had extended the Russian's contract
until June 2013.
Having strengthened the forward line, Newcastle United continue to pursue some cover in central
defence. Although without much luck so far. Now that we've unexpectedly strengthened our strike
force with the addition of Papiss Demba Cissé, the club's attentions have turned back to what they
said was the priority position they need to get cover [.
Freiburg's Papiss Demba Cisse joins the Magpies for a reported £10m. Newcastle now sports a
Senegalese flavour to their team. The new no 9 joins countrymen Demba Ba and Cheikh Tiote, both
enjoying outstanding Premiership seasons. All three are at the ACN, so fans will get to see him
next month depending on how Senegal do in that competition.
Newcastle United pulled off a coup today in the signing of Senegalese striker Papisse Demba
Cisse. The former Freiburg striker has nine goals from 15 appearances so far this season, and
finished last season as one of the top goalscorers in the Bundesliga with 22 goals to his name.
The striker signs on a 5 and-a-half year deal, and the transfer fee is thought to be in the
region of £7.
Senegal striker Papiss Demba Cisse (26) has become Newcastle's latest number 9 after signing
from Freiburg for £10m and if he can have just half the impact Senegal team-mate Demba Ba has
given the Toon Army it will be money well spent.
Papiss Demba Cisse and his current club Freiburg have now agreed a deal in principle for the player
to join Newcastle United for a fee of around £7.5 million according to Sky Sports' David Craig,
though the deal will be subject to a medical. The player was spotted at the club's Benton trainng
ground before [.
We don't know if the report is true, but it was almost inevitable that some paper would soon write
a report that Liverpool are interested in Newcastle striker Demba Ba. Demba Ba in action
against Manchester United The news since Friday is that Demba Ba has a £10M release clause in
his Newcastle contract, and that could cause some clubs to come [.
Picking up another defeat against Newcastle United on Wednesday obviously gives a worrying sight
for Manchester United fans as that was their team's second consecutive defeat after previously
being gunned down by Blackburn Rovers.
However, the Red Devils' manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, ordered calmness among everyone as it's not
time to get panic since they're still only three points away from the current league leader,
Manchester City.

It feels like the season's about to start again. We had the early season, that time when the
players weren't any good and the matches were dull. Now we have a sort of unspoken season two, in
which we have new and exciting players and midweek games against teams we've never seen before.
It's like a second life: "okay, sorry about the first few weeks.
Newcastle fans are upset with the club right now for not not bringing in a top striker over the
summer. Pappa Demba Cisse Newcastle were too late But it seems that Newcastle's name is still big
with players, and news today that Freiburg striker Pappa Cisse was interested in moving to
Newcastle on Wednesday, [.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Papiss Demba Cisse's move to Newcastle has fallen through. Papiss
Demba Cisse Newcastle end interest? The chances of Newcastle pulling off this deal were
never bright, although they did go in with a reported £10M offer for the Senegal striker on
Monday. The Freiburg club rejected that £10million offer from Newcastle and boss Alan Pardew
seems to have now [.
If Newcastle can bring in a decent striker today, this transfer window may even have turned out to
be a good one for Newcastle. Papiss Demba Cissé Magpies in today with increased bid The signing
of 20 year-old Davide Santon last night from Inter-Milan has been met with great approval and even
some excitement from [.

There is now less than a week to go before the transfer window closes and there is still no news on

first of those surrounds striker Papiss Demba Cisse. Cisse plays for Frieburg in the Bundesliga and
he [.

Scoring Stats Europe's key forwards - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
A scoring stat is defined as any goal or assist and through this combination we have so far
investigated how reliant certain clubs across Europe are on star individuals. So which players
actually contributed the most to the success of their teams in season 2010-2011?
Welcome to the third in my small series of ‘blogs looking at Newcastle United's new signings in
the latest transfer window. In this episode, I will be looking at free RC Lens youngster and French
Under 18 international, Mehdi Abeid. Much attention has being focused on the last three Newcastle
United signings, Yohan Cabaye, Demba [.
Lionel Messi extended his lead atop the ESM Golden Shoe standings to four points at the weekend
after scoring in Barcelona's 2-0 victory over Osasuna.
Messi came off the bench to score, while his nearest challenger Cristiano Ronaldo, who also
started on the bench at the weekend, failed to score in Real Madrid's rout of Valencia
Saturday.
It began with coaches, it continues with goalkeepers. The Bundesliga is in quite a reshuffling
mood at the moment.
- Manuel Neuer to Bayern. This isn't really a rumor anymore, but rather a
foregone conclusion, now that Neuer announced his Schalke exit during a teary eyed press
conference.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"Last year, I was so comfortable.
FREIBURG, Germany — No goals were scored in the Bundesliga Sunday when Freiburg drew 0-0 at home
to Eintracht Frankfurt and the derby between Hamburger SV and St. Pauli was called off. Freiburg's
Papiss Demba Cisse and Frankfurt's Fanis Gekas, the league's second and third-highest goalscorers
respectively, both missed chances to add to their goal [.
STUTTGART, Germany — Johannes Flum's first-half goal earned Freiburg a 1-0 win at Stuttgart in
the Bundesliga on Sunday, ending the home side's unbeaten start to 2011. Flum scored in the 24th
minute, when he latched onto a through ball from Maximilian Nicu to shoot with his right foot under
Sven Ulreich.
MUNICH, Germany — Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez hit a hat-trick as the defending champions went
third in the Bundesliga with a 5-1 win over Kaiserslautern on Saturday as leaders Borussia Dortmund
drew 1-1 with Stuttgart. Despite being held, the leaders remain 13 points clear at the top with
Bayern 14 points behind after Gomez netted [.
Ah the rumor mill. Such a crazy addictive hobby. And it's always a load of rubbish.
The thing that will stir it up more than anything is a massive purchase. Due to the
particularities of January and the desperation of clubs, there tend to be more ridiculous purchases
than during the summer.
